Our clio has been hard to start when cold, on & off over the last couple of month's when it has done this and we have got it started, once its hot it starts ok, sometimes though the next morning it will start fron cold. It now seems to be doing this more often, I seem to think I have read somewhere that it may well be something to do with the temperature sender. can anyone confirm this?

Thanks Burge Read more

A short would cause the ECU to think the engine was warm when it isn't. What is it like when it is started? Any roughness?

I seem to be having a problem with my car , when i turn a corner the car cuts out, the steering locks and the brakes fail, it only seems to happen when making left turns, a couple of times i've gone across the road luckily there has'nt been any cars coming the other way, i have to turn the key to off to get the steering to work, also when it happens the battery light comes on. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Read more

i have a noisy gearbox to short driveshaft brg , there is an oil leak present but not bad . i was wondering if the gearbox brg can be replaced whilst in situ or is it a gearbox out and strip job ?drive shaft and c/v joint is ok . i was hoping there is a circlip retaining brg but no one seems to know ! would prefer to do job all at once rather than pulling drv shaft and having to replace it to obtain part .brg is defo u/s - loads of lift on it . cheers now ! I think that bearing is actually part of the differential, I believe you can change the oil seal on it though.

Forget Hobnobs and Digestive. Now and again it's good to buy a decent pack of decent biscuits. Old fashioned ones like your Aunty had. I can easily put a packet of Fig Rolls away with 1/2 pint of tea. But is it the chocolatey smoothness of the Bourbon, or the citrus lemon tang of a Lemon Puff. There's some awful american new biscuit where your supposed to a*** about breaking it up, then licking salt off the back of your hand, then taking a shot of Tequila and having a glass of milk....I don't think!! If there are even better choices do let me know. 21.15HR, time for bed. Read more

.....School Dinners..... much maligned, but they left me with a love of such puds, and pink custard served in odd gold coloured metal jugs. And sprouts which looked like a sprout but had been boiled from 8.30am until high noon, and was 'a paste', with a warm, buttery, nutty sproutiness on the palate, and beyond. The weedy kids whinged, but we went for seconds.

How long does a sign have to be up for it to be deemed no longer new? I was thinking of:

I feel for you. It's amazing what can be constructed under permitted development.

Next door but but two have just constructed a full length box dormer-effectively turning a bungalow into a full size two storey house. Two PVCu Juliette doors thrown in for good measure. Hideous.

Could anyone tell me what traffic might be like on the A4540, the inner ring road, from Hockley to Balsall Heath?

My daughter will be working in a school in Balsall Heath, and so aiming to be there about 7:30, and probably leaving about 4:30 in the afternoon. She's been advised to choose somewhere else to live, or use public transport. It is not a long journey, and she'll be just before the real rush hour starts.... Read more

Until taking early retirement at the end of June, I was based in Five Ways, and used to travel daily from Kingstanding. Given the early start, traffic before 7.30 will be fairly light, and the journey over to Balsall Heath - presumably going via Five Ways - should be relatively easy. It will be the return journey when your daughter will hit congestion. Belgrave Middleway island and Five Ways island will be the most congested at this time of the afternoon. The island where Monument Road meets Ladywood Middleway is much improved now that the re-worked island and traffic light control are finished, although traffic entering this island from Five Ways is still subject to delays and queuing.
