Just a hypothetical question I am wrestling with. I have 3 year old Hyundai i30 CRDi (diesel), 25k miles on the clock and full service history. Car in general runs fine, 55mpg, only a couple of very minor niggles fixed under warranty.
A friend of mine suggested that I should sell the car this year and have a layout of around 2.5k to buy a year old i30. His rationale is that the car is still very sellable with low mileage and remaining warranty whereas my outlay would be minimal to buy a newer car with an extended warranty of 5 years from new.... Hi there,
I've just bought a used BMW from a used car dealer. It was sold with a 3 month warranty, and a 160 point 'check' which seems to cover very little, except major failures.... Read more
Surely that wouldve got AT LEAST an advisory if the tyre is really that bad (a photograph might be nice if you wouldnt mind mate, ive got visions of racing slick in my mind at the moment) because if not, either the MOT station passed an unroadworthy car or the dealer has swapped them back and sold the good ones. Which again would be daft and strange because its hardly worth the bother for all the fuss you'd end up with.
I have a i.6 zafira 2001 the engine light came on the dash a while ago and i had a friend check the codes with his snapon reader, it came up lamba sensor, hed removed the codes and all seemed to be well a day or two later the engine seemed to be running a little lumpy and the rev counter stopped working also the cooling fan kept running all the time although the engine was not hot at all, then the next day it would not start at all , my friend did another check with his reader but it came up with an error message " conection failed, we tryed several times but cannot seem to connect to ecu , does this mean my ecu is shot? Would anyone have any ideas on whats causing this problem please, I would be most grateful if anyone could help before i splash out on a new ecu, many thanks Read more

Automatic gearbox jumps out of gear especielly when car is cold. I have to stop the car, turn off the engine, wait 10 seconds then start again. It does it 3 or 4 times at the start of every journey but settles down after 20 minutes or so.
Any ideas on the problem? or possible solutions Read more
I would think the first thing to do with any chance of success is to change the oil.

The car's now 10 years old and has just hit 80,000 miles. The other month I changed the auxiliary belt, the belt that drives the pums and alternator.
Should I be changing the timing belt now or wait until the car hits 100,000 miles?... Read more

Hello Bonzo Dog, great place Glasgow, you nearly always get the benefit of any doubt. Eminently sensible people whos's attitude is 'it could easily happen to me'. Great story that, and I bet that's what did happen too.
Richard Hinckley makes an interesting point. However I have a feeling that a slight mistake on the paperwork does not invalidate it. It used to but the loophole was closed. We need LucyBC for this one. If you ignore the paperwork and rely on the error you may land in deeper do-do. If you write to them and inform them of the error you stick your head above the papapet! If it is a properly issued Penalty Charge Notice from the police or local authority then I would be inclined to write a nice, grovelling letter of apology and point out the error. They may think it is fair play and rescind the ticket. Either way if it a proper ticket you are at the mercy of the appeals manager, so the nicer the letter the better your chances. Good luck. Diagnosis from a Honda dealer is a 'timing lag at 70mph' which is causing a delay in the vtec operation. This was their conclusion after taking my car for a drive. Their diagnostic equipment didn't show up any faults or problems. So.......

Thanks for all replies.
For the record I don't do 8k miles a year - I think people have assumed that I have owned the car from new - I haven't. My annual mileage is in the region of 15k hence the reason I choose diesel. I have always had diesels and probably always will....
