maybe some people know this, but one can save around 15% on fuel through adding for petrol .17ml to 1 litre of petrol and diesel.13ml/litre diesel of pure acetone,it also after a tank or so will produce hardly any emissions,as nearly everything gets properly burnt,it also cleans one's engine up nicely,no coke build up
Get a syringe & just squirt it in after filling ones tank up.. Read more
Until recently both my wife and I had our own cars separately insured (both with maximum NCD) in our respective names (with the "other half" as named drivers on each policy) .
I've now sold my car and may or may not get another car in the near to medium future.
As, without insurance, acceptance of NCD lapses after a year or two (varies by insurance company), I have been considering whether it is worth the effort of flip-flopping the insurance on my wife's car. I.e. one year insured by her (with me as a named driver), followed by another year insured by me (with her as a named driver) in order to keep both our NCDs current.
Does any know of any flaws in this approach? Read more
It's a stinker. Why should you lose your NCD after two years non renewal? There can't be any actuarial evidence to support this policy! After all, when you buy a policy, they make the last 5 years of your driving history their business.
I've lost valuable NCD in this manner....
It's time for the MOT and guess what, its brake pads again, change the discs as well sir as there is a little bit of wear. Hmmmm,,,,I had a brake check 2 weeks ago and the guy said they would be ok for quite a while yet. By the time they had issued warnings of impending doom on other bits and bats they got a get it throuigh the test price of £698. I am off to seek a second oipinion. Read more
Use careful judgement if choosing a council run MOT centre. True, they are unbiased and have nothing to gain by ripping you off. However, like most council services, they run it according to the book, are inflexible, and unsympathetic.
They can be very strict and shine bright lights a private sector light wouldn't reach....
I have problems with my seats on my RX8 R3 that I want Mazda to sort out and would appreciate advice on what I can realistically achieve, how to go about it (I was intending to start with a letter to Mazda, copied to Recaro), what the legal position is and where I can get cost-effective professional help.
The car: I bought privately (no dealer to strong-arm) 6 months ago, it is 2 years old (one year of the original manufacturer's warranty left to run) and it has the Recaro seats standard on this UK 'face-lift' version of the RX8 ('R3' is a trim level - the US and Japan had several others but the UK only had the R3, which is the 'sports' version and the only one with these seats).... @ablandy - thanks.
I see these as combined 'fitness for purpose' and 'warranty' issues where judgement is called for, and IMO the design of the seats is faulty and should be rectified like any other fault: (a) the bars are too near the occupant and have inadequate padding (b) the bolster material is not leather as Mazda claim in their sales material (c) the bolster material is not up to 'fair wear and tear' (not all wear and tear is fair!)....
Right i think its time this forum had a detailed discussion about this as the new laws have now come in to force. For those who havent been following it is now an offence to have a car which is taxed but not insured, this will mostly be an issue to those who have vintage cars which come out occasionally (even a tax-exempt vehicle is classed as taxed if its not SORN and is subject to penalty) or summer cars etc. Previously a car only had to be insured to use on the public road, if it was off road or unused it didnt matter, that has now changed, now if the vehicle is uninsured you're expected to return your tax disc to the DVLA and declare the vehicle off road.

Hi, could anyone tell me what size the front discs are on my 2005 sharan tdi.
As i have spoke to numerous motor factors and the question keeps coming up about disc size?. 300mm or 313mm? but have no way of measuring this!!... Read more
hi peter, done that and it measures approx 300mm, but wasn't sure as the 2 types of disc are quite close in size.
Hi
A while ago I posted on here about my faulty heater only blowing hot air. THanks for the advice offered, however I;ve done everything I've been told to do to no avail. Here's a little update, I was wondering if anyone had any more advice for me?
- Changed the hcv to a Ford genuine AC one, no change.
- changed the control panel for one I got from a scrap yard - no change
- Done voltage test, strange readings - hcv connector only reads power when I earth it to chassis rather than through earth wire, however have checked earth wire to the one at the back of the control panel and they are connected etc
- not getting any of the pulsing readings from multimeter as described in other posts
- Both pipes going into the Hcv are getting hot, the right hand side one more hot than the other....
- the little motor powering the hcv gets very hot also, that's not right is it?!
- Tried to trace the wire from the hcv connector to the control panel to check it - at the hcv its purple and black, at the control panel it seems to be full purple - is this normal?
I'm racking my brains here and running out of ideas. I know taking it to a garage is easiest but I'm low on cash and so need to dispel as many possibilities as i can first, to save time/labour costs etc
If you guys can offer any suggestions, I'd be extremely grateful! Read more
I own a Mazda MX5 Monaco & am considering selling it. It will have a year's MOT & at least 6 months tax. However, there is slight rust on both front wings & I am wondering whether I would lose money if I didn't replace them before selling. Also, looking for the best place to find a quote for the best selling price. I also own the original hard top & am wondering whether to sell it seperate or add it in with the sale of the car. That's good news. I've been using Snake Oil until now, but I'm having difficulty getting enough snakes and rendering them down to extract the oil is a right PITA.
