Mazda MX5 - Thinking about selling my car... - pitchbend

I own a Mazda MX5 Monaco & am considering selling it. It will have a year's MOT & at least 6 months tax. However, there is slight rust on both front wings & I am wondering whether I would lose money if I didn't replace them before selling. Also, looking for the best place to find a quote for the best selling price. I also own the original hard top & am wondering whether to sell it seperate or add it in with the sale of the car.

Mazda made so many special edition MX-5s that it may not be listed separately - you may have to go on the base vehicle.

I'd get an idea of price by looking on autotrader for cars of a similar age/engine. Do the wings bolt on? If so, the cheapest way is to buy second hand wings of the right colour - perhaps on ebay or through a parts finder service.

Hard tops can be worth quite a bit of money, and could well be worth selling separately, especially if its a common colour [I don't know if the Monaco was a special colour].

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think the wings bolt on, but having trouble coming across 2nd hand wings due to the Monaco colour being British Racing Green. They seem to sell as soon as they become available. The hardtop would probably fit most MKI model MX5. I'll have a look on some price guide sites, see what prices they are selling for.

I think the hard top will fit both Mk 1 and Mk 2.

I'd have thought a heard top in BRG would sell pretty well on ebay.

As mentioned, I believe there is no difference between mk1 and mk2 hard tops.

Why does BRG on a Japanese sports car make it more saleable?

Why does BRG on a Japanese sports car make it more saleable?

Its the top which is more saleable, not the car. Mazda sold lots of MX-5s in BRG, so there will be lots of potential buyers out there for a BRG top.

Some special editions were an unusual colour. Had the hard top been one of those colours the market for the hard top would have been much smaller.
