The downpipe gasket is slightly blowing in my Brova. Would this effect the MPG by much? MY car seem to be going through a lot of fuel. Read more
As some readers may know i recently bought myself a 406. Nice car and all but im afraid buying cars is something of a disease with me and i just couldnt resist a lovely little bank holiday bargain from a local dealer who ive bought cars from before. Lovely motor but needs some work doing.
You're probably going to think im absolutely mad when i tell you what it is as everybody hated them but here it goes. Ford Scorpio 2.3 Ghia Saloon.... Read more
It is indeed an automatic. And yes the engine is terrific, this specific car has done 137,000 miles but engine wise its tight as a drum.
What tempted me to it the most was the fact the bodywork is like new, a rarity on these older Fords.
Probably been posted before but the chain store "The Range" sell 5 litres of Unipart branded fully synth oil for £17.99. They have various grades of 5W/30 in both Ford and VAG 505/507 spec as well as generic 10W/40.
Changed mine on Sunday - bargain! Read more
Bought some a few months back and did an engine service in my diesel Avensis. No problems in 7k. Good stuff.
I'm looking to get a family car for approx 5k.
Need to have a decent sized boot (bigger than my current 206 SW) and good rear legroom - I am 6'4" and so need to have the drivers seat all the way back, which means there isn't enough room behind me for a car seat, so currently whenever we go anywhere baby number 1 is in the front passenger seat, with baby number 2 behind her in the back and my wife squeezed in behind me - not ideal.... Having had a Picasso, Berlingo and now on my 2nd Passat TDi estate I'd go for the Passat because it is appreciably quieter and an effortless cruiser at motorway speeds. In France I put it at 130 kph on the cruise and average 52mpg. In the Picasso HDi I had that would give me 38 to 40 mpg - VW diesels are noisier at low speed and lumpier but at motorway speeds no different to the PSA units and significantly more economical and more torquey. Berlingos, Picassos anything that boxy shape have terrible aerodynamics resulting in lots of wind noise and increased consumption. Berlingo is a great tool, we miss ours but motorways aren't its natural habitat.
Hello Everyone, just posted this on Legal for LucyBC to comment. Proposed new legislation will remove the protection under civil law we all now enjoy against the private parking parasites. Our own Government intend to remove this protection and replace it with new laws, under which the private parking parasites will be able to pursue the registered keeper and force them to reveal the driver, or face the fine themselves. Yes, that's right, our own Government is going to allow these vultures to harrass and persecute it's own citizens. Unbelievable, but true. The other slap in the face is the title, it will be called ' The Protection of Freedoms Bill'. Whose freedom? Ours or the vultures who see us motorists as a cash cow to be milked? There are 30 million motorist, most of whom are voters, surely we can exert some power and have this bill stopped in its' tracks. I am a technical novice, e mail and a bit net surfing are about my limits, so I am not capable of setting up a website to orchestrate a resistance campaign, but I am willing to assist in any way I can if anyone can help. We motorists contribute immense amounts of money to the economy, so much in fact that even a small reduction could prove disastrous for the Goverment. United we could achieve that and get this blatant, unfair situation resolved in our favour for a change. Time for the dog to wag the tail instead of the other way around. Cheers Concrete Read more
Hi again Concrete, unless I'm reading the proposed changes incorrectly, no powers of "enforcement" are being given to anyone.
Firstly the govt is outlawing private wheel-clamping; I'm sure this is something you approve of (the outlawing, that is)...
Hello, everyone. The old chestnut of private parking. New legislation by our elected leaders is being drafted. The Goverment, who are supposed to be on our side, intend to remove the existing protection we enjoy under civil law against the private parking parasites.
It will be replaced, under a criminal statute, by powers to allow the private parking parasites to pursue the registered keeper, also to force them to reveal the driver or face the fine. I cannot believe our own Government are going to allow it's own citizens to be harassed and persecuted by these vutures.... Read more
Last time it happened i blocked the guy in with my own car and when he was forced to knock on my door to ask me to move i charged him £30 for the privilage following a large argument where he admitted he was in the wrong and then asked "how may i apologise?"
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - had a go on the search facility, but didn't immediately find anything.
I am heading abroad with work for about three years. I am unlikely to drive while I am over there, as a driver is provided. Before heading off, I plan to sell my car and cancel my car insurance. However, when I get back, I shall want to buy a car and start driving again. Anecdotally, I have heard that gaps in car insurance coverage can be problematic. Is there anything I can do to avoid problems when I seek to take up car insurance again in three years?... Read more
Talk to your insurance company and not just the kid on the phone-it may be better to communicate by post.
I don't know if this is the right place to post but I really hope someone can help.
My boyfriend owns a Ford Mondeo Estate TDCI and it is nothing but trouble. We had a failed Injector in the engine and we had it replaced at a local garage at a cost of almost £300. When we got the car back boyfriend noticed that oil/fuel was leaking from the Injector and over the engine cover. Car went back to garage and they said they replaced seals. We checked the car again about a week later and the Injector was still leaking. Car went back to garage again, they had it for several days before we got it back but it was still leaking and we noticed that there was steam coming out from under the bonnet when we stopped. We took the car back again and the garage told us that the Injector they replaced is a modified Injector and needed Modified seals so they had the car for several days again and we collected it last week. They have indeed replaced the seal but they have used some kind of sealant around the Injector seal. ... Read more
Rear Sunroof works fine. Front Sunroof opens all the way, but on closing stops just as it descending , leaving a 1cm gap. You can stick a hex key into the motor socket, and 3/4 turn anticlock shuts it.
Whats the solution to this?
How does the motor connect to the drive mechanism that pushes the roof? Is there a torx/spline shaft coming out he motor driving the sunroof mechanism?
I get this idea what it needs is the motor taking out backing off 3/4 turn clock wise, then placing back in situ. Being now 3/4 turn retarded, it should reach zero point as the sunroof shuts fully. or wouldn't that work ?
Or is there a way to make it carry on running that last 3/4 turn, and reset the zero point ? Read more
Ok ive got the solution.
Buy another motor, £10 at the scrappy. Remove the motor from the gearbox, discard. What you have now is a sunroof mechanism adjusting tool.
Open then close the sunroof, till the motor stops. That is where it thinks closed is. Take the three bolts out the sunroof motor, let it dangle out the way. Bolt the spare gearbox in place. Now turn the hex socket hole in the centre of the gear box and manually close the sunroof.
Now remove the gearbox and bolt the original motor back in place. the motor closed stop now coincides with the sunroof closed stop, and should open and close fully.
Worked for me. How come not one single person on the internet came up with this solution, in 10 years the Scenic has been out and having this fault ?

Did you test drive it before you bought it?? Sorry, but it sounds knackered. Injectors, clutch, maybe more.
