I can't think of any other diesel i would want to drive, in my case i have a 335d coupe.

I like quick cars with good chasis/handling. I'm not keen on hatchbacks. This time i wanted a diesel. The 335d is putting out 340bhp, excellent chasis, 41-44mpg daily, 47mpg on a run. <£200 p/a road tax but excellent performance....

I have a 3 1/2yr old Nissan Qashqai (25K miles) which has suffered the known knocking problem on and off since new, first experienced at 6K miles. 1st set was replaced under Manufacturers warranty and the second set failed within 6K miles of fitting.

The Nissan dealer did not fit the revised standard dampers so when the knocking sound returned (warn bushes by the way) they had to replace at their cost.... Read more

Does anyone have good or bad experiences they would like to share about any 02-06 reg 17-seater minibuses?

Thanks happy polo and alfatrike regarding Transit.

My experience of Transits is that it is a decent drive although the turning circle on the long wheelbase was a bit too wide for my liking. The internal comfort and trim can be quite acceptable but the only bit that is a real put-off is the actual passenger access which is essential for a passenger carrying vehicle. When using a standard factory minibus with the sliding left door, it has a door stop which means it has such limited opening that leaves a very narrow entrance that proves to be a nuisance especially for some larger folk. Also, the ridiculous seat nearest the sliding door with its essential but obstructive guard rail is a definite negative. In other words, Transits may be very practical and roomy as vans, but they have missed out rather badly when using it as a bus. I suppose a coach-built option that the builders have redesigned thinking carefully of seat positioning and door access would make it quite desirable, but until I see such a creature I will remain unconvinced....

I have just recently bought the above vehicle and would be most grateful if anyone can tell me if there are particular faults with this van, and if so, the ways to rectify them.

Many thanks. Read more

Too many faults to list with one of these ! Partly why LDV went bust! You will need to find someone with Diag gear dedicated too LDV, not very common I'm afraid and although its a ford engine their diagnostics are in the hands of TRW I'd ! Wait till it goes wrong hopefully you may be lucky.
Weaknesses are gearboxes! Props diffs, steering ! Imobilizers nign barrels, seats, door locks window winders. Switch gear, starters and alternators, egr valves! Etc etc

Hi, T reg. hdi. When I brake the abs kicks in. I have changed the discs all round and put new pads on. Yesterday the abs warning came up on the dash but this stopped the abs kicking in when I braked. I tirned the engine off and restarted. This got rid of the warning light but then the abs kicked in every time I braked.Any ideas very welcome. thanks Read more

Hi robdub,

Did you find out what the problem was?...

Hi,

I currently have a problem with my Renault Clio 1.2 It is on a T plate and only done 47,000. I am having a problem where by sometimes it will fire others it won't, it will just turn over. It can take upto six times to start the car and I don't want to kill the battery. I now start my car with my foot fully down on the clutch and accelerator, I am just scared that I will flood it, yet it seems to work. I have treated it with redex incase there was a block in the fuel lines and it was serviced only 2 months ago with new plugs and filters. Just over a month ago the car had its cam-belt changed and the problems started not long after that. The car seems to run very well, with no odd vibrations.... Read more

Hi

I had to same problem with my 1999 clio 1.6. Does yours have an immboiliser? This was the problem with mine. Everytime i tried to start my car, it would turn over fine but just not start. Took between 5 and 10 times before it did. Turned out the chip in my key had broke as the car senses the key, immobiliser turns off and then starts. As the key was broke it didnt happen. Just changed my key to the spare and problem was solved....

Hello Blackfoot, sorry for your situation but you are just going to have to stand up and take the flak. Something similar happened to me in Sheffield a while ago. Late at night following my sat-nav trying to find my hotel. It seems the sat-nav takes over and we blindly follow the instruction instead of observing signs and signals. Anyway, the photograph proved I was guilty, even though no other traffic was around and no danger was caused. I went to court and said my piece and got a minimal fine. I put down in writing my case in 'bullet points' and refined them and rehea***d them until they sounded short and succinct and genuine. I didn't ramble on or deviate from the subject. I said I was lost in an unfamiliar city. It was dark and raining and visibilty was poor. I was following my sat-nav which I trusted, but it led me to take a incorrect turn. I was driving deliberately slowly because of the situation. I committed the offence before realising it. I have an excellent driving record of 42 years and I am really sorry to have taken the courts time with this inadvertant breach of the law and it will not happen again. This was accepted and I was thanked for attending to explain. Unfortunately it was an absolute offence so some sort of punishment had to be given. I think that had the magistrate had some discretion I might well have been discharged with a slap on the wrist. So, get it right, dress smartly, and follow the first rule of speaking- stand up, speak up then shut up. Best of luck. Concrete

I have a 2003 Corsa 1.0, that has destroyed its engine. When starting up the engine one morning, there was an unhealthy noise and a loud knock before the engine died and wouldn't restart. I took it to a local garage who had a quick look at the engine and saw that all of the spark plugs and valves were damaged and suggested the timing chain had slipped to cause the problem.

Eight months earlier it had had a lot of work done at a different garage, including amongst other things a new timing chain. Seeing as that would be under warranty, I took the car over to them, but unsurprisingly they have come back to me saying that the timing chain hadn't snapped and looked normal. Instead they say that it looks like one of the fingers off the camshaft appears to have broken off and jammed everything up, but it'll cost £400 in labour just to look into that by taking the head gasket off.... Corsa C camshaft failure Volume 1 starts here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=69027 Although camshaft snapping seems to be confined to 2005 model year Corsa C's. I did see here that Vauxhall had recently issued a recall notice to check camshaft bolt tightness on Corsas so perhaps they've now acknowledged the problem. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/?t=88126 and here tinyurl.com/65wylgp

Have owned car for 8 weeks in which time it has required a new wheel bearing, rust patch repaired and is now back in the garage diagnosed with a failed DMF and damaged clutch resulting from this failure. The car is 2006 with 56000 miles and came with a 12 month warranty the warranty company are refusing to pay claiming that this is wear and tear I have been quoted 1030 pounds to repair, the dealer is offering as a "good will gesture" to cover half the bill. Should they be paying for all of it do I have any recourse under the sale of goods act due to the short time owned. The vehicle has a full saab service history! Read more

Hi again, thanks for that.

Lucy is correct, Dual Mass Flywheel failure is normally regarded as a mechanical failure rather than wear and tear....

I have a 4.5 yr old Leon FR TDI which I have owned since new and has covered 49k. FSH, cambelt + water pump changed@40k last year. It has given no trouble except a rogue engine management light on a couple of occasions which always extinguishes itself and has been checked by my independent VW specialist and only found as high exhaust temp.

I have been scared by stories of injector failure, here and elsewhere, in the 2.0 PD 170 engine which is in this car. My intention was to keep the car to 6 yrs old and replace in Sep 2012. As a family we run two cars, and pay for them over 3 yrs, the idea being we are only ever paying for one car at a time. However, the scares over injector failure and making me wonder whether I should change sooner.... Read more

Thanks MLJ and Avant for your input

MLJ - you are right of course - nothing might happen to the Leon. I guess I do fancy a change and I'm trying to justify it! However, there are increasing numbers of stories of injector failures on the 2.0 170 PD including in the Leon over on Seatcupra.net. This added to the warnings of oil pump failure on all 2.0PDs as documented here by 659....
