I bought a Peugeot 307 HDi 2.0l a few months ago. Due to test driving in the snow we didnt notice that the car was down on power (wont make that mistake again!) Anyway I invested in a diagnostic and replaced the MAF and cleaned the DPF filter. However as I work in town and have a 40 min drive though town 2-3 times a week the DPF isnt getting much chance to regen and is slowing my car down again. I'm thinking about just getting rid of the stupid DPF filter and solving all my problems. I've heard about people doing it without a remap and fooling the ECU into thinking the DPF is still there so no warning lights appear. Has anyone managed to do this? Any tips if I go ahead? Completely concur. The pressure drop across the DPF should be under 0.15 bar or so. The idea that they choke the engine is nonsense. Peugeot use Eolys which greatly alleviates the problem of regen. If it is clogging up and not regenerating, the problem lies upstream.

anyway
this morning i started the car and it sounded like a diesel .rattling from top of engine like mad .drove off still rattling .took a good 5 mins to go silent ..could the tappets have the mayo in aswell ,thus blocking the oil when cold ??

These engines are renowned for snapping timing chains, lack of oil changes block up the lubrication to the chain. .

No they're not. It was the previous Vectra-B 2.2 that had the lubrication nozzle issues, sorted out by replacing it for the modified one.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, its more than likely the tensioner which is partially hydraulically controlled, and infrequent oil changes can make it stick and doesn't tension the chain anymore....

Plese help....

I parked my car in a private car park in December. The ticket machine was out of order so I put a note in my window. I returned an hour later to find a £80 fine had been left on my windscreen. I wrote to the company and explained that the machine was out of order and I had attempted to make the payment. The fine has now increased to £120. The company is called V.C.S Vehicle Control Services. Their letter reads...

We acknowledge receipt of your challenge to the above Parking Charge Notice. Despite careful consideration of the circumstances, we have not found sufficient ground to cancel the charge.

Whilst we understand your concern at receiving a Notice, it is entirely the responsibility of the motorist to ensure that they are not parked in contraventionof the terms and conditions prior to leavong their vehicle on site.

On the day in question a Pay and Display ticket was not clearly visible when the contravention occured. Therefore the Notice was issued correctly. We appreciate that there may have been a problem with the ticket machines on the day in question however it is not acceptable to leave a note in the windscreen. You could have utilised the helpline number on our signs to inform us of the situation or made alternative parking arrangements. Whilst we sympatise with the situation described , the fact remains that you were parked on private property without displaying a valid pay and display and therefore in contravention of the terms and conditions of the site.

Whilst you may not have intentionally breached the rules of the car park, the fact remains tha you were in contravention of them. We regret to disppoint you but unfortunately the circumstances you described give us no grounds to waive the notice.

Unfortunately as we did not receive your appeal within 7 days of the notice issue date the charge has now been reverted to £120.00. The required payment of £120.00 is to be received within our office by 19th April 2011. Failure to comply may result in the issue of court proceedings wherby further costs could be incurred.

Yours xxxxxxxx

If anyone has similar experience or legal knowledge on this please advise. I have until Monday 11th April to reply - only seven days, surely that's not legal notice!

Thanks for your time. TonyP78

They can apply for any order they want andt a "Norwich Pharmacal Order" which - if granted - would provide a court order to compel the keeper to reveal who was driving.

A Norwich Pharmacal Order would normally require the applicant to show that revealing the information or forcing it to be revealed was in the *public interest* - ie to the benefit of society - not the private interest of the parking company.

Furthermore the substantial costs of a Norwich Pharmacal Order must be paid by the applicant (ie the parking company) and while they are recoverable if granted the application for costs is subject to a further hearing.

To get one would require a full hearing of the court and considerable expense with little chance of either success or recovery....

My 06 C-Max 1.8 TDCi has done 54,000 miles, and the clutch has started slipping in fifth under heavy acceleration, all the other gears are currently fine. The clutch bite is very high too, so it looks like the clutch is on the way out.

I rang around for some quotes, and the dealer price is approx £550 just for the clutch, but £1100(!) if both the clutch and the flywheel are replaced.... Read more

Rear drum brakes:

Why have manufacturers changed the design from separate drums to the combined hub and drum layout?... Read more

The answer to your question is that a combined hub and drum reduces costs and improves concentricity.

In a fiercely competitive market this is an obvious measure and cars with drum brakes have been designed like this for years....

I can't think of any other diesel i would want to drive, in my case i have a 335d coupe.

I like quick cars with good chasis/handling. I'm not keen on hatchbacks. This time i wanted a diesel. The 335d is putting out 340bhp, excellent chasis, 41-44mpg daily, 47mpg on a run. <£200 p/a road tax but excellent performance....

I have a 3 1/2yr old Nissan Qashqai (25K miles) which has suffered the known knocking problem on and off since new, first experienced at 6K miles. 1st set was replaced under Manufacturers warranty and the second set failed within 6K miles of fitting.

The Nissan dealer did not fit the revised standard dampers so when the knocking sound returned (warn bushes by the way) they had to replace at their cost.... Read more
