Hello and thank you, thank you, thank you to Grease Monkey. While this is in response to a very old thread, I do hope word gets back to him. My 2003 Honda Jazz has just had its gearbox stripped and bearings replaced - free, under the extended warranty GM told the forum about, despite being two months out of the stipulated seven years. It was not without a fight, however, and having to go to Honda South Africa HO when the local dealer insisted it did not qualify. However, my argument was that it was diagnosed as needing new gearbox bearings during its April 2009 service - when I was quoted 'between R8000 and R10000'. My response then was that I simply could not afford it. Anyway after that service (60 000 kms) the noisy whining seemed to decrease, so I thought they were trying their luck with a woman owner ... but byDecember last year the noise was back with a vengeance, and through all the gears. In January I stumbled on Honest John while trying to find out about gearboxes online - and Grease Monkey's advice about the Service Bulletin. So back to the dealer I went, and asked him why I was not told of this at the time. He said not all 2002-2008 models qualified ... although on checking the VIN, he conceded that mine would have. Anyway, long story short, I got hold of the very efficient and gracious general manager in Johannesburg (I'm in Durban) who promptly looked into it and responded that "it certainly wasn't fair' to expect me to pay in those circumstances. So thank you, Mr Grease Monkey! Funny thing, though - the itemised bill totals R5312.84, not R10 000. Gearbox was stripped, bearings removed from diff and replaced, along with numerous oil seals and rings. The costliest item is something noted as "BRG SET. TRA" @ R1622 (after labour, @R3068). So to Honest John, Grease Monkey and all who generously share their knowledge - thank you! Read more
Filled up at my usual supermarket petrol station this morning. The first thing i noticed was how much longer it took, followed by the amount of fuel it dispensed (56 litres) The capacity of my cars tank is 55 liotres, and the low fuel warning light had not come on.I complained at the desk & was told that customers had complained the previous day & that the pump had beel inspected overnight & the calibration checked My complaint was logged & sent to head office. In 45 years of buying petrol i've never had occasion to think a petrol pump had overstated the quantity dispensed. Has anyone else had the same problem & what would be the best way to follow it up?
Thanks in anticipation of any advice. Read more
We have a 2001 Model Fiat Brava 80SX (1242cc) with 100k miles. Recently an ABS fault has been showing intermittently on the dashboard. The car does not have ABS fitted, so the indication is false. Everything else appears to be operating normally. Has this fault occured on other cars? and if so what is the solution? Read more
Hi RPH1, right the abs light if fitted should be on with the ignition and extinquish within a few seconds of start up if ABs was fitted. I know it sounds daft but are you sure it hasn't got abs fitted and if so what makes you sure its not fitted ?
The sure way is to plug in diagnostics to search for the module
I was replacing the brake light bulb (P21/5W dual filament) and now the bulb is jammed in the holder. It is half way in, half way out. I can't get the bulb out, nor can I seat it more firmly.
Running light works OK, but brake light does not come on.... Read more
Yes, definately pliers. You might find a little white galvanic corrosion/powder which can also interfere with the easy removal of some bulbs.......eb
Both tail lights have stopped working. Bulbs are ok. Brake lights work ok.
Are the tail lights on separate fuse?... Read more
Not sure if they are on a seperate fuse, but this is the first place to look.hth

Neighbours of ours had one a few years ago. Again a diesel which needed a costly repair. Also it is slightly smaller than the Previa so I don't think the parts are interchangeable. It too was an M reg.
My daughter has a 58 reg 5-door Polo. With recent rain she has found that when she opens the NSR door, there is a load of water pours out on the the ground. It would appear that water is getting trapped between the seal on the door and the seal on the body shell. This does not happen on any other door.
My wife has a 60 reg 5 door Polo and the sealing arrangement is different.... Read more
I agree water retention would be a greater worry. However it is an embarassment really. Hope you enjoy your new car, by the way.
My 29 yr old daughter wants to buy the above (03). Anyone out there have any experience of this car and its pros and cons please? Read more
Its a very expensive version of the Focus to run both insurance and fuel and because of what it is there is a fair chance it will have been used to its potential.Having said that they are fun to drive and have that little bit extra street cred.If you do decide to buy one may I suggest you have it fully checked over.
does anyone know where the bleed points are for the water system on a synergie 2001. My heaters are barely luke warm but engine not overheating. Using water though. Any ideas?
If there are no leaks then as already stated classic symptoms of the HG fault.

Second hand is a risk as they have all done loads of work and usually all fail in the same way.The small motor that drives the vac pump wears out.The unit is often Bosch,Hella or Vdo.Search the net for any specialist supplier.hth

No, it's 1% over, 0.5% under.
and they don't give you any more than they need, that's one of the selling points from Gilbarco, Veeder Root et al.
