Hi I am a novice to understanding bikes with any kind of electronics fuel pumps etc, I find myself having bought a Deauville 650 as a stop-gap that does not want to re-start, having refuled following running to empty. Can anybody advise me please. Is there anything I need to do? eg prime the fuel pump etc. if so how etc. I do not have a workshop manual.
though I am waiting for one to arrive. in the mean time I have a bike 3 miles away that I visit every day with encouragement and recharged batteries etc. but the patient does not seem to want to get better. Thanks

The other day the battery light came on when I was driving a Focus diesel. I drove it to a garage and sorted it out.
The question occurred to me later - how far could I have driven it?... Read more
My wife had an 05 1.6 TDCI Titanium a while back. Her alternator packed up on the way home one night, so she was driving with lights etc. on the battery from start up. She got about 3 miles before it gave up the ghost. Then with jump starts she managed half mile relays.
RAC told me at the time there were a lot of these faults on this mark 2 model along with Mondeos which highlighted a generic problem with their alternators. The car was only just out of the 3 year warranty, and Ford paid half the cost of the alternator. Just 20K on the clock.
Can anyone tell me if this model has a timing belt or if it has a chain and if so when should they be changed. This is the 2007 - 2010 140bhp model Read more
sorry forgot to mention ...it's diesel
I enjoy watching F1 racing once in a while. But seeing doctors nurses and people protesting against a regime being shot and killed leaves a sour taste in my mouth.I wonder what Mr B Eccles is going to decide after going to Bahrain. Read more

the first time the engine management light came on, the petrol gage was on red the light stayed on after i filled petrol tank up, . then i took it to my local garage and he changed the cam sensor, everything was fine for about two weeks, petrol hit the red again and light came back on, and stayed on even when i filled the car back . any ideas what it could be? i heard it could be the timing chain and i believe that it would be a big pricey job?? My car has done 86K, it is nearly 7 years old.
Recently I had an annual service done. When I collected the car back the person told me that there was significant gap in the wheel alignment and he fixed that for me. A few days later I could start hearing a loud noise (not good at describing noises!), which was constant and grew louder the faster I drove. I took at back to the garage and the person said that the wheel bearings is the cause. He is charging me 46 quid for the parts called - Hub Kit, and 123 quid for labour for 2.5 hours! Lots of questions!... Read more
One suggestion is after finding the wheel bearings worn with some play the mechanic over tightened them causing them to fail.Just a sugestion but difficult to prove.
Hi,
This is my Mum & Dad's car. I think my Mum was trying to open or close the boot while my Dad was clicking the fob to lock or unlock the car.
The problem is the boot lid won't shut now. I think the latch went to the locked position with the boot open.
Sorry for being a bit vague, the message from my Mum was garbled. Read more
bought a second hand diesel pump and the garage fitted it. Now the car has imobilised and the mechanic has said it is because the pump has to be programmed to the ecu and we had to get the ecu that matches the second hand pump we got - impossible we cant get it! Is this correct? or is there something else we can do? dont really want to scrap the car but it is looking more likely any help much appreciated thanks xx Read more
Robin thinks its chipped, your mechanic thinks its mechanical, all the XUD engines I have had experience with have had purely mechanical pumps, but having said that yours will be post '96 when they did include some electronic control. Does one of your injectors have a wire connected to it? If so it is partially electronic but I don't think its coded, unless its to do with the immobiliser system.

You have may have sucked some muck into the carbs or their is an air lock in fuel lines. Try putting a small amount of petrol into the float bowl, start the bike and let that suck the fuel through. Alternatively it may be a blocked jet from muck which is a simple carb strip and then blow through the jet.
