FIAT Bravo and Brava - Spurious ABS indication fault - RPH1

We have a 2001 Model Fiat Brava 80SX (1242cc) with 100k miles. Recently an ABS fault has been showing intermittently on the dashboard. The car does not have ABS fitted, so the indication is false. Everything else appears to be operating normally. Has this fault occured on other cars? and if so what is the solution?

It could be a fault within the electronics of the dash board. If the car definitely has no abs sysytem, then I would be inclined to get the bulb removed.hth

Are you absolutely positive it has no ABS because on this model it was standard equipment .

Thanks for your response, but ABS is not standard on the 1242cc cars. It was fitted to the bigger engine models of the same period. I presume the dashboard instrumentation fit was common to all models.

Would removing the bulb induce another fault ? The EEC will know the circuit resistance is infinite.

Is it def the ABS symbol being displayed rather than pad wear light/fluid level ?

Does the abs light appear when ign is turned on and go out on start up ? after a few seconds ?

Its definitely ABS symbol (it says ABS on the display). It comes and goes apparently randomly when driving. Sometimes it may also be lit with ignition on, but engine not running.

Hi RPH1, right the abs light if fitted should be on with the ignition and extinquish within a few seconds of start up if ABs was fitted. I know it sounds daft but are you sure it hasn't got abs fitted and if so what makes you sure its not fitted ?

The sure way is to plug in diagnostics to search for the module
