Hi. Trying to source a front left speed sensor for my 2014 D Max. The main dealer wants £260 plus VAT. I can get an equivalent from Thailand for about £100. Has anyone had any experience ordering parts from Thailand? The company is autoparts.co.th Thanks!

I would want any replacement part to be manufactured to OEM standard

Last thing you want is a speed sensor locking up the wheel when you least expect it or not braking when you need it

Morning all,

Looking for a third opinion here. Came out to my car Saturday morning to find a learner driver had dinged the offside door and sill while parallel parking - picture linked below. No blame there as he must have been mortified (you'd hope). Long story short his dad has offered to pay for the damage to save his son's premium from going down the toilet forevermore.... Read more

Its difficult to choose and be fair to both parties. I would go for the cheaper option if I were paying it myself so thats the one I would go for when someone else is paying. Whichever option you choose the paint finish will be at risk of not matching over time but (if they are good companies) there is no reason that the panel beaten door will look different to a wholly new one.

Coincidentally I scraped the lower part of my sill along a rock at the weekend with much more severe damage than the OP's. Its made a dent/crease at least a foot long and up to an inch deep. Horrible to look at and I was dreading it needing a new panel with the inherent risk of welding rust. I went to a locally recommended body shop for a price this morning. Very much not a glass palace. He said it was tricky as it was so deep but he can pull it out and spray/underseal for £260 plus VAT. Not bad at all I thought.

My son (22) has just changed cars, he's been saving hard for years to treat himself. He bought a manufacturer-approved used model, registered 1st September 2018 with 13K miles, balance of manufacturer's warranty remaining, free roadside / breakdown cover for the duration of the warranty etc. It really is immaculate, not even the mildest kerb scuff on the wheels. Apart from the reg. plate, it's indistinguishable from new.

I calculated the difference between the price he paid and the list price when new. In less than a year, the car had depreciated by 41%. I found that quite staggering. ... Read more

I don't think this is what you meant, SLO, but I suppose it just might be ... :-)

The company mentioned at the bottom of the website 2019 APPROVED USED CARS LIMITED does not exist - no surprises there then!

Met a local taxi driver here, zero problems with servicing as per schedule, only replacements so far, front tyres twice, not sure about rears. windscreen replaced due to crack appearing when collected from a service.

Will be selling at 12 months old when expects to have done 70,000 miles-ish.... Read more

Could anyone offer some advice as I have had some conflicting views on what I should do?

I bought the car in early June and have had some problems with it such as fumes giving me headaches, oil leak and AC not working. It has been back to the garage twice and it still had oil leak and aircon only worked for two days. I have had mechanics look it over and also A/C checked to confirm there are problems and rejected car within 30 days. I have been accommodating and waited for garage owner - as he was away - they want me to take the car back to them so they can inspect it. But I cannot drive the car as it makes me ill - also the alternator belt has splits in several places. A friend has offered to drive the car (45 miles) but someone told me that if he has problems with the fumes, or alternator belt breaks I could be liable and the garage should come to inspect it here? I have said they can come to my house at anytime to view it. I have had to insure and tax a friend's car to give me something to drive. Another option that has been offered if they won't refund the purchase price is for me to have it inspected by someone who deals in disputes and can claim the money back via Section 75. I have already paid out nearly £400 on extra expenses Read more

Perhaps more likely that Louise has responded to a different thread (in the Motoring section) by mistake.

But it really doesn't matter!...

I have a large willow tree at the top of my drive. In the strong recent winds a large branch descended, if this branch had damaged my car would the claim be made on house or car insurance? I suppose I could end up sueing myself! Read more

NARU

If the branch fell on someone else's car, you'd only be liable if you'd been negligent. Such as if you'd been aware that a branch was dying.

When my neighbour's tree was clearly dying, I wrote to him. When it later came down, he had to pay for the fence repair. Had I not written to him, I may have had to pay (it was my fence).

Hi all,

Random question so here it goes! So I drive a Citroen C4 Cactus (lovely car, no complaints, economical) no issues so far. I've owned the car on finance for the last 9 months (since Dec 2018) and today I have had a letter from Citroen advising a recall safety notice on the vehicle was issued before I bought the car. ... The issue with vehicle recall safety notices is a lot of owners just ignore the recall letter, even when it has URGENT SAFETY RECALL CONCERNING YOUR VEHICLE printed in red text on both sides of the envelope containing the letter that drops through the door.

If the vehicle had been bought used from a Citroen main dealer they would have checked for any outstanding recalls & carried out the work before handing the vehicle over to the new owner....
