Hi folks
My wife took our 2011 Seat Ibiza for a full service at the local dealers from where we originally bought the car from.... Read more
How do you know they didn’t change the oil and filter. ?
It's usually easy to tell if oil has been changed, maybe also the filter if you can see it.
Hi all,
Any help much appreciated. Looking for a cheap second run around for September (required for school run/getting to work whilst other half has other car). We are on a painfully small budget of £800-£1000.... Read more
The Fusion itself in 1.4 petrol form (chain cam Ford Zetec engine similar to the 1.25, both Yamaha-derived units) would also be worth a look.
Wrong advice here....
My 2001 Toyota Yaris 1.3 SR has a noisy fan belt on startup but once driven for a couple of minutes it stops. My mechanic said it is because it has not been driven much lately?
The above question is on the agony column today. HJ agrees with the mech stating because the battery may be low the ALTERNATOR is putting a strain on the belt demanding charge for the battery!... Read more
I treasure a decades old yellow can of Grako Sprazon belt dressing by Graton & Knight. It doesn't say what's in it but all my cam and fan belts got a squirt every year or two until recently. None were ever changed, none ever broke. One, a VW cambelt, was still going strong at over 240,000m when sold and my nearly 40yr old TR7 fanbelt is still functional (but I carry a 38yr old spare and a couple of spanners!). On the can it says it's suitable for all types of belts from fabric to synthetic, but I'm not sure about the modern aramids, so our 19yr old Focus cambelt hasn't had a squirt recently. But, as said, check the pulleys it drives aren't stiff and beginning to seize. Feel how hot they are after a short journey.
You should have no problem at all if there is a flat battery. The transponder chip is a passive device that needs no power .
Hi All
Wife has a DS3 in purple and some clown has managed to reverse into it with a tow bar fitted or similar and drove off, damaged the front bumper, chrome grill insert and the radiator.... Read more
Also check the metal bar behind the (flimsy) plastic bumper. If the radiator's been damaged, then I'd suspect that bar has been too. It may be structural!
Anyone know the best way to remove number plates that have been attached using double sided plate tape? I don’t want to scratch any of the paint work around the area etc? Read more
Or do as I did last month: drive to the south of France, wait for the temperature to reach 40, watch the plate drop off as the glue melts.
Hi. Trying to source a front left speed sensor for my 2014 D Max. The main dealer wants £260 plus VAT. I can get an equivalent from Thailand for about £100. Has anyone had any experience ordering parts from Thailand? The company is autoparts.co.th Thanks!
I would want any replacement part to be manufactured to OEM standard
Last thing you want is a speed sensor locking up the wheel when you least expect it or not braking when you need it
Morning all,
Looking for a third opinion here. Came out to my car Saturday morning to find a learner driver had dinged the offside door and sill while parallel parking - picture linked below. No blame there as he must have been mortified (you'd hope). Long story short his dad has offered to pay for the damage to save his son's premium from going down the toilet forevermore.... Read more
Its difficult to choose and be fair to both parties. I would go for the cheaper option if I were paying it myself so thats the one I would go for when someone else is paying. Whichever option you choose the paint finish will be at risk of not matching over time but (if they are good companies) there is no reason that the panel beaten door will look different to a wholly new one.
Coincidentally I scraped the lower part of my sill along a rock at the weekend with much more severe damage than the OP's. Its made a dent/crease at least a foot long and up to an inch deep. Horrible to look at and I was dreading it needing a new panel with the inherent risk of welding rust. I went to a locally recommended body shop for a price this morning. Very much not a glass palace. He said it was tricky as it was so deep but he can pull it out and spray/underseal for £260 plus VAT. Not bad at all I thought.

I got 4 speeding tickets sent to me in Belfast following a motorcycle trip though France, again they were all just marginally above the speed limit. I didn't pay them thinking that I just have to avoid France in future, which considering their attitude to people driving a couple of Km over the limit really didn't bother me.
Someone just told me that I can be nabbed in Germany or Belgium etc. for the non-payment, does anyone know if this is true?
