Hi,
I have a Skoda rapid spaceback diesel ( 2016 )that I use as a taxi. I have covered 10000 miles in a space of 3 months since the last oil change ( which i used long life oil ). I was wondering since the miles have been done in such a short space of time, should i bother changing the oil or wait longer? ... Read more
In other words, should oil change depend mainly on time span or number of miles?
All oil has a long life, it's nonsense to suggest it decomposes after twelve months. But 'long life' oil should really be called 'long distance' oil, because it's designed to stay oily for more miles of use. However, it's expensive. If I was a taxi driver doing 40,000 miles a year I would buy in bulk a cheap fully synthetic and change it myself every 10,000 miles. ...
Hi,
First time posting on here, hoping for some general advice. Sorry for the long post (I just really am looking for clarity on what to do).... Read more
Thing is, Ford Focus cambelt changes are suggested at 150,000 miles, Honda Accord cambelt changes are to be at every 70,000 miles.
Those are only recommendations and only apply when the car is new. The manufacturer has no idea, nor cares about the condition of your car, or how it's used once it's sold and gone into service. Take all service and replacement interval recommendations with a huge pinch of salt. Common sense must be factored in as soon as the car takes to the road, and certainly once it's over two or three years old.

I think your best bet would be an upgrade to a better unit . Any of the better known brands should do the job . Sony, Pioneer, Alpine etc . The only problem you will have , is that any unit is not a direct fit . So needs different fascia plate and wiring adaptors and a dab aerial , usually a stick on windscreen type.
I recently had a minor car accident where I hit the rear bumper of a car in front of me. We were both stopped at a red light and I didn't realise that after I had stopped the car, it started moving again (like when you let go of the brake in an automatic car). This meant that it hit the car in front of me at something like 2mph (or thereabout).
Now I left some scratches on the car in front of me from my grill, which should be a simple repaint of the bumper (£200-£250). The other driver, however, sent me a repair bill of £1100, which included a completely new bumper, bumper beam, repaint, and labour cost. This is completely out of proportions.
If I was in any other car, I wouldn't even have left those scratch marks, but in my BMW 5 Series, the grill is sticking out a bit, so that left a few marks along the whole bumper.
I'm willing to pay him up to £300 for a repaint and the inconvenience but definitely not £1100. What shall I do? Read more
There used to be, and possibly still is, a dedicated hotline for crash for cash scam reporting, does anyone have the number and is it still an operation?
From what i read the police team dedicated to this wanted as pronto a phone call as possible, presumably camera footage, even if the victim managed to avoid the planned accident, would be most welcome.
I am sure I read somewhere that some manufacturers of direct injection engines were fitting an additional injector into the inlet port. I thought it was an article on Suzuki engines. I now cannot find any reference to such a system.
Did I have a dream that has eliminated the valve choking up problems? Or has anyone else any knowledge of this development? Read more
I read in another post the EA888 (VW) engine has it from 2013.
Recently I have heard (too frequently for my liking) radio advertisements for Vauxhall promoting the company as “a British company since 1903” as though that should be a major selling attraction. If the advertisement had been for cars built in Britain since 1903 this pedant wouldn’t have objected, but surely Vauxhall is in no meaningful sense a “British company” – it was a subsidiary of the US giant General Motors from as long ago as 1925, and it later years producing nothing other than badge-engineered Opels … but now of course sold by GM to PSA which in my book makes it a French company.

Looks like the usual Germanic good taste has gone out of the window. And I bet it will cost a fortune to have all the dent's removed, as he said it's up there with the Transit, so why not just buy a Tornaeo? And get more seats.
Hi there,
I recently purchased a used Yaris which looked good on paper. It’s been purchased from a local garage with assurances that this is such a good car. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks on, someone looked at the car for me and noticed the back bumper has been resprayed and its clips are visible, as the whole bumper has not been fitted on properly. It looks like someone did a rather poor job on it, possibly post an accident, although nothing was recorded on hpi.
Although the garage has mot’ed the car, the break pads are rusty, not to mention the drums at the back.
The 3 months warranty does not include the issues I’m mentioning here but I’m feeling p***ed off as I have noticed how badly the bumper was re-done and I’m just wondering if this is something worth mentioning to the garage at all, as I’m not happy.
Thanks in advance,

I would have hated to have paid 5 grand and have corroded body work.
You are not going to end up with corroded bodywork through a badly painted 'bumper'. As i said earlier, this is just a plastic cover, so while it may look unsightly to you now, it isn't going to rust.

It's not a recent phenomenon. Some time in the 50s my F-in-L parked in a Cardiff street and was soon reversed into by a lorry in front. Driver immediately got out saying 'I never moved'.
