January 2019
At the end of September, we purchased a brand new Skoda Karoq with the 1.5L petrol engine and manual gearbox. Since then we have experienced ‘kangarooing’ when setting off in first gear, and occasionally the engine dying at junctions – potentially very dangerous; many other owners are also reporting this. Skoda is calling this a ‘characteristic’ of the engine – which is also used in other models from the VW Group range. Although this is a known fault, dealers are not informing potential customers. As this engine is a relatively recent introduction, I suspect that many new owners are still thinking that they are causing the problems rather than the car.
This has the makings of another major scandal for the VW Group and I wonder if anyone else in the Back Room has experienced it. Read more

The cameras are already live on the M1 and can be activated at any time for 'operational' reasons. Read more
I do a lot of motorway miles and have done so for many years. I have always set my cruise control to 79, even through the cameras and have never had a ticket. They are set to 10% + 2 and your speedo is usually off a little so if I set it to 79 I am probably doing more like 76-77.
Hi all,
I'm very new in the UK, so I don't have much know about rules.... Read more
As usual, the OP has taken our comments and suggestions and gone away. Hopefully he'll come back and tell us the outcome when the matter is settled one way or the other.

A few months ago, I was about to start my car and I heard a clunk noise from the back and a message appeared on the display saying the boot was open. I closed it thinking maybe I had pressed the boot release button on my fob. But it happened again and again soon after. During the summer the problem seemed to go away.
However since the start of winter, my boot has started opening itself again. It's normally as I first get into the car, and locking the doors from the inside seems to stop it happening. This morning it happened 3 times as everytime I shut the boot it would open again before I could get back in and lock the doors. ... Read more
Hi there
I’m having this EXACT same issue!
Did you manage to get yours sorted?
If so, what was the issue and how much was the fix?
Thank you
I know it's a how long is a piece of string type question but at what age does your car reach before you change it or do you keep it going regardless 'til it's had it? Read more
Chooks is UK slang too, widely used on UK forums. It took me ages to realise what they were clucking on about.
Must admit the Ing is getting a bit cold these days.
Hi.
My mum has received a letter from Toyota about a vehicle recall as they said the glue holding the rear door glass could detach and there could be symptoms of noise, vibration or water entry.
There has been a lot of water entry into the car when it rains heavily which has resulted in the back foot wells flooding and water rising up the back seats. This also happened in my own aygo and when I myself raised it with Toyota, I was told that it was nothing to do with them. I no longer have the car.
My mum has done the same previously but has been told that it wasn’t their issue.
There has been damage in the car interior due to the flooding and my mum is wondering whether there is anything that Toyota would be expected to do besides fixing the glass issue?
Such as reimbursing her for damages or fixing the issues that have come about as a result of water entry.
My mum hasn’t been able to pay for it as she is on a low income and is actually trying to get s new car because of the issues she has had with this one but she can’t afford it currently.
Thanks all!! Read more
Agree with last poster. My next door neighbours Aygo was in and out of the dealers for this. They kept fiddling with the rear lights. Had mushrooms growing in the boot. High level brake light doesn’t seal properly, poor design. Took it off and used good quality clear mastic and it’s been dry for two years now.
hi all, so today i popped out to the car to blow the tyres up. started the car and it said code 24 on the dash. unfortunately I've misplaced my owners manual. a quick google search said that this could either be a speed sensor or a number plate light. both seem to be working fine. There's no unwanted noises from the engine. having turned the car off and on again the error code has gone. I've plugged the car into a obd scanner, that also says no errors? anyone know why i may have gotten a code 24? or any popular things i can check? thanks all! Read more
I literally have all this
. Code 24, engine light on and off.. got diagnostic test they said radiators then next day code 24 come on. Seen same as you speed signal sensor or number palte lifht, but car running fine. Now I see this was 2019 so assume you know the diagnosis and would like yiu to help measure youre probably the only person experiencing the same and that long ago you should have had a diagnosis.. many thanks if yiu could help me x
From my usage pattern, a Prius would make good sense for my local journeys (would have to be about 10yrs old though - all I could afford), but also, quite a chunk of my usage is long runs (360+ mile round trips).
I'm interested to know just how many MPG a Prius will truly get on a long steady cruise like that.... Read more
I appreciate it’s a different car, but the technology is similar, in running a Honda CR-V Hybrid at the moment, just ahead of its launch next month. The hybrid system is equivalent to Toyota generation 4, fitted to curren Prius and CHR. I’ve done 1100 miles this week, mostly motorway with the cruise set at no more than 73mph, and it is currently showing an average of 40.6mpg. Not strictly relevant, but will hopefully give you an idea of motorway mpg with a petrol/electric hybrid.
Interesting letter to HJ agony column today it would seem he has reports of this happening.
As spark plugs are pretty robust have members heard of this happening to other marks and why peculiar to the 2008? I have had a plug misfiring but never breaking up! Read more
Sure it isn't "Disintegrating engines destroying spark plugs"?
That cause-and-effect stuff can be tricky.
I test drove 2 Scalas with the 1.5 engine, smooth and poweful. But i decided on the 1.0 TSI instead, its a great little engine.
