Hey, I bought a car the same as your by the looks of it, I also have exactly the same symptoms as you had on the car. Rev count needle dropped, no power and the traction control light and steering wheel lights come on. I have also had diagnostics done and also, the crankshaft position sensor case up. I am having to deal with, dare I say, Evans halshaw but am wondering how long the job took to repair please (just so the don’t stiff me on the labour costs) . Much appreciated

Car should be done free under warranty. Have you had it main dealer serviced, If oldenough to require servicing. 12 months and 15000 miles. mine was done under warranty.

I think I know the answer to this question already but it's always good to ask. My car is a ten year old 308sw diesel.

Unlocked my car with the remote, got in, turned the ignition - one click and - not even a flicker of power. No interior light, no radio, definitely no engine turn. My question is, if this is the battery, wouldn't it have died a slower death - ie; given me lighting etc but not enough juice for the engine? Or is this a bad cell in the battery? Or is it something else?... Read more

I have a 2010 1.4 TSI Octavia with 100k on the clock.

For quite a while now (i.e. at least a year) I've been having a minor niggle in that, as per the title, the engine sometimes feels a bit hesitant and uneven.... Read more

Quick update on this, over the weekend, I took each of the coils out one by one and checked all the spark plugs.

One of the plugs seemed like it was only just hand tight (I was cautious when I fitted them not to over tighten - seems l was too cautious). After putting it all back together again and tightening up the coils, it seems to be running much better. It's not super smooth, but that is probably just down to one of the other issues suggested above like the injectors being clogged, vacuum leak etc....

As always, an interesting post, your contributions often stimulate debate.

Your location and lack of availability of materials commonly stocked in the UK seems to have led you to turn to experiments with alternatives. ...

This feature is the one with the exploding bonnet I believe.

The warning light has come on yet again and I don't want to keep paying £40 to have it reset. (£140 if I went to BMW Mini!)... Read more

Resetting warning lights or clearing fault codes doesn't fix a problem.

You need to probably replace the sensors.

Maybe the money saved would be better spent on customer services, existing and new build quality issues and updating their Ingenium engine family..

Re: Rocks-angst

I'm not sure that this advice is correct, as the OEM 225/50 R17s will not have the same diameter (to within +/- 2%) as the others listed as alternatives, except the 215/60 R16. Read more

My CRV (on the flat) speedo reads 34 mph when actually travelling at 30 and 78mph on the speedo when actually travelling at 70mph( Garmin Sat nav). Previous CRV was the same.

Honest John, you are talking out of the wrong end of your body. The Ford KAs are NOT built as cheap hire cars for Spain. I know, I was one of the engineers who developed that car.

lucky you, pleased to read your comment, all the snow had gone by the time I left the house this morning (07.20am) and this evening the snow came to within 20 miles to me but no nearer!

Hi all, I currently have a Mazda 6 2012 (Venture Edition) and I'm looking at changing it for something similar. I'm tempted just to go with another Mazda, but does anyone have any recommendations for alternatives? Only requirements are something spacious with a large boot. I'll likely be looking at models from 2015/2016 with mileage under 20K. Don't mind petrol or diesel although I need to educate myself a little on buying a diesel in current climate as my previous cars have been petrol. Price point would be around 10K - 15K. I only do around 10-12K miles a year, with a relatively short commute to work and not a huge amount of motorway driving. Read more

If your budget were lower I’d favour the Avensis too, I own one myself. But at £10k upwards I’d be in the Mazda which is nicer to look at, better to drive and will hold its value better than an equivalent priced Avensis. The Toyota is bland but efficient, comfortable, dependable and surprisingly decent to drive but it’s a step below the big Mazda.
