Driving to work this morning up the Motorway and experienced a brief loss of power under acceleration. Pulled over after a few miles in a layby to check things out, couldn't find anything wrong.
On pulling out with heavy acceleration, started to hear a whining noise from the turbo, accompanied by very poor acceleration. This continued for a number of miles then acceleration started to improve but the turbo continues to whine accompanied by an almost metallic (metal on metal) noise from the turbo under load. No engine lights have come on but performance is definitely affected. This can't be replicated in neutral, only under acceleration load.
I have a 100 mile trip to complete later and concerned this might deteriorate further. Having read other forums, I understand there are know issues with turbos and injectors for this engine. Just wondering if there is any experience out there of similar issues?
Hi all, I have an 18 plate crossland x 1.2 petrol and yesterday all was fine until I put my car on my drive and locked the doors and went to set the alarm. Usually I push the lock button twice then wait a few seconds and push again and the lights flash 20 times so alarm is set, but I pushed lock twice then pushed again and nothing happened, so I unlocked the car, lights flashed 4 times, it normally only flashes once, and only driver door opened so I have now set it so all doors open but still can't get the alarm problem sorted. I have tried both keys. Any help would be appreciated, waiting for vauxhall to call. Thanks in advance

Hi Penguin, apparently it's to guide you to the car if you are in a parking lot or something. It flashes that many times on the third press of the lock button. Once to lock, twice for the dead bolt and third is as mentioned abo e.
Hi people,
I'm having some terrible issues with my car lately..fuel pump has been replaced twice in 2 weeks once after failing and then because I could hear a whining noise coming from the fuel pump after replacement and he replaced it again but noise is still there and the fuel gauge is fluctuating still...my mechanic says he can't hear it but it's always there very annoying, should I bring it back and try and get him to properly fix it or am I wasting my time with him?... With the greatest respect, if you think a diesel car has spark plugs you would be better getting someone who knows what they are doing to solve your problems.
Well yeh. Good trick if you can do it....
I have just failed an MoT due to two Avon ZV7 (225 55 17) fitted to the rear axle. Tread depth, etc was not a problem, but the cracking / tearing between the tread blocks had exposed some of the cords
Is this something to be expected on tyres two years old and 23k miles? Read more
I never did hear back from Avon as the tyres had not been returned to them! I was not impressed with the tyre fitters.
I am going to try a different fitter when I need tyres as he takes more time over fitting and uses protection for the rims and actually uses a torque wrench on the wheel bolts
Since I posted this query back in March I got rid of the car for a Mondeo which came with new tyres on the front from a Chinese manufacturer. I will how these go
Hi all,
I'm a fairly new driver, just come up to 2 years now and have to admit I'm not very experienced when it comes to cars. I'm looking to get some feedback on an exhaust replacement I had done today.... Read more
Good outcome.
And thanks for reporting back - so many don't bother, so credit to you....
Hello,
My car has been overheating a lot recently. Sometimes on the motorway, sometimes in slower traffic. I refilled the coolant a few days ago, and I've been told this could have left air in the system which can cause overheating. A mechanic gave me advice on what to do, open the bleed screws and let air and water drain, but I've forgotten specifically what he said.... Read more
Coolant level varying can be a sign of a blown head gasket. Combustion gas in coolant channels round head and block displaces coolant making it look artificially high in, or even leak out from, expansion bottle. Gas then works its way back to bottle and coolant level drops dramatically.
My Peugeot 104 owned from 82-86 played this trick regularly.
I purchased a motorhome 11 months ago from a dealer with a new MOT. I've just had it tested today and it's failed on excessive rust and corrosion. ItsI a 2001 with 80k. It cost me 17k and I had plans on keeping it for a long time. Do I have any comeback on the dealer? Read more
Moving forward you probably need the services of a professional body shop or an old school garage experienced in renovations of old vehicles. Would be worth it to you to get a few quotes so you know you are being charged a fair price. If the mechanics are all OK then you are looking at labour charges to cut out the rusted sections and replace with new metal and weld. It would be worth getting this done in one go so you are not revisiting the same problems next year. There are many skilled people out there, you just need to find the right one.
Hi, im considering buying a used caddy 2.0 SDI. I have a question thou about the gearbox reliability on these vans. I read that the engines are bulletproof if treated well, but what about the gearboxes ? Ive seen a few ads out there mentioning theve had a replacement gearbox, although most ads don't. Are these gearboxes prone to failure after a certain mileage ? Im looking at a few ads that have around 150K on the clock. All the ads say they drive very well, but im worried about the boxes, do they last as long as the engines ?? Thanks Read more
It’s not a big worry bbd but it’s a known issue particularly among higher mileage users, it was a regular problem on normally aspirated diesel Octavia taxis but mostly beyond 150k while the TDi boxes were going strong at twice the mileage.
The OP was talking about examples with big six figure mileages and It is a concern at this age and mileage. The box used in the equivalent TDi’s is stronger. Unless a van is absolutely necessary I’d buy a good used estate at this end of the market instead. Used vans are a nightmare unless you can afford a good example.
After owning a few older cars, (vectra and fiesta) and not paying anymore than 2.5k for a car, I'm looking for an suv with a few years manufactures warranty. Both me and the wife will be driving it, around 15000 miles a year. We test drove a 1.5dci qashqai and a 1.6gdi tucson 2018 models. I preferred the tucson, she liked the qashqai n connecta. We compromised and decided to look for a tucson but diesel version with some toys on it (reverse camera, sat nav, touchscreen infotainment system).
Budget 12-15k.... Read more
I live in the North East and bought a used 2.0 diesel 4wd IX35 (Tucson predecessor) from Motorpoint in 2013, and kept it until last year.
During warranty I had it serviced at the closest Hyundai dealership to my work, Bristol Street Motors in Peterlee. They were fine, but if it needed any consumables (brakes) I had these done at my local indie. ...
Quite ironic, given every make and their dof are now going into producing numerous MPVs and SUVs for their smaller and mid-sized hatchbacks...I thought that the original C-Max was actually fine, but turned into an ugly car through following iterations. Read more
