20mph limits are most ignored because their use is most abused by councils.

I know of one put in place for a school that closed over 10 years ago - council wont remove it.

Another stuck on roads 1/2 mile either side of one school, but a nearby school left with 30mph limits.

"But school" is the most common excuse - yet the speed limits are 24/7, 365 days per year; and the schools are - even allowing for school clubs - 8am-5pm, M-F, and 36 weeks per year. Read more

Speed limits are almost totally random and influenced more by local pressure groups than road hazards or safety.. No wonder drivers don't know what the national speed limit is.

My car was involved in an accident last week and my insurance company has just informed me that it will be a category S write-off. I am considering buying it back and repairing, but it appears the insurance company are effectively charging 25% of the value for this, here is the text from the insurance company

"As you are aware the pre-accident value of your vehicle is £3212 and has been agreed by our Engineering and if you want to keep the vehicle we will deduct 25% because your vehicle is a category S Total Loss (structural damages) we will also deduct your £100 Policy excess.... Read more

I am currently disputing the valuation, but my query is, is it normal to charge a percentage to keep the car?

Yes. If you accept the write-off, the insurers pay you what they estimate you need to replace the car you had (market value), and take the damaged car for its salvage (parts) value. If you keep the car they will clearly pay you less. You have to decide whether that amount will cover your repair cost.

I had a search but failed to find the thread I was thinking of.

IIRC someone posted a procedure he used to blow a carbon plug out of the oilway and then got badgered by multiple numpties wanting him to do it for them for free....

enjoy your reviews.

looking forward to you doing the VW T cross 'cos I'm thinking of buying one this year.

I know its a rebadged arona so you could just re-submit the arona review with the name crossed out and T cross (stupid name) written over.

Minimum work for you and prospective buyers get to know that VW havn't done anything obviously dumb in the rebadging that we should know about before we get one.

Why do I want a T cross rather than an arona? Because its slightly smaller and I like the simple boxy shape.

I would appreciate any comments from the experts on this site about a minor issue I have on my Suzuki SX4 1.6. The problem is intermittent misfires on C 3 (fault code 0303). I initially thought it was the coil pack as there was a similar issue some time ago on one of the others that was fixed by a new pack. The issue occurs at irregular intervals and often just causes the engine warning light to flicker but not go firm, 0303 is there when I put the scanner on. The only way I can create the issue (sometimes!) is to try to accelerate in 5th on a gradient that gives uneven running for a short time. It could be a plug/lead issue I expect and I’ll see my excellent local mechanic in the next couple of days and no doubt he’ll have some ideas but I thought some of the gurus on here may have seen a similar issue. Many thanks. T

elekie&a/c doctor, Thanks again for your help, just to confirm final outcome, both HT leads replaced, and new plugs that should probably have been changed a while ago, and all now OK. T.

Looking for some advice with what to do with this 'company'.

So I had a car collected by a car transporter 9 days ago. It was supposed to be delivered to the closest city to me, an hours drive. But he has a yard 3.5 hours away where the car is and wants me to collect it from. I told him 6 days ago that wouldn't be possible as would have to give up a day to get there and back. As you can imagine that would also make my costs beyond the point of hiring him in the first place.... Read more

I have found a burn on the passanger seat approximately 10mm long 2mm wide. I'm a non smoker and no one smokes in the car. I had my windscreen replaced a couple of weeks ago. Do repairers use hot tools or tools that get hot due t to friction? they may have been placed on the seat. Thanks Read more
