This is an extremely embarrassing and stupid thing to do of course, but I got a used car off a relative a few months ago, and I've just realized I didn't send off the v5 document at the time. I had it wrapped and ready to send but somehow it fell down the side of a cupboard and I've just found it (on the day I was supposed to send it I had about half a dozen other letters to send so I didn't notice it wasn't there).
Anyway, the obvious thing to do is just send it off on monday but would it be wise to also ring the DVLA and explain? ... Read more
Had a dealer yesterday being rather forceful with trying to sell PCP, I have cash to buy a new car outright but he was using every argument possible to tell me it was a ridiculous idea to use cash when PCP offered so many benefits...
I declined his PCP however wanted to know your views
His points from memory were -
1. Save your cash in case your roof blows off your house ( im insured!)
2. You can hand the car back at year 3 and walk away
3. You will loose more in depreciation if you own it outright
4. The interest rate is irrelevant because you hand the car back just see it as a cheap way to rent a car
5. Most customers go with pcp these days and save their cash for other things
I know my views on the above, hes obviously on a far better commission to sell pcp.
I never got written examples as was not reeled in by the above.
Any one good at maths that would like to prove or disprove his arguments ?
New car price with 3 year service package and 3 year warranty is £13500
Car will be worth £ x in three years and 30k of use whatever standard devaluation is )
Versus -
Pcp deposit in a £13500 car plus monthly repayment costs.
Which person is better off assuming at the end if three years the car is sold for cash so we can see who paid the most.
This is for interest only but of course may help other people make a decision.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

Nothing they can do but you did Hoover the commission they thought they were getting as part of the deal so don’t expect any goodwill and the next deal will be quoted with this in mind. That said there’s plenty of other dealers so why not, I’d do it too.
I recall many years ago reading some of Quentin W's words on buying from dealers. He said it was unlikely that you would need to meet again, so not to worry about any bad feelings of that sort. I haven't bought a great number of cars in 50-odd years, but I think I have only bought from the same place twice. And only one car that I would call a lemon.

This interesting thread is a good illustration of the tiny efficiency savings of clever electromechanical engineering being probably completely offset by the cost of repair (how much was it?) not to mention the hassle of being without the car while it's being repaired (well, I mentioned it!)
I've just bought a 65-plate Yaris and there is a light to the left of the steering wheel on constantly. It is orange and is a pic of a baby in a car seat. I rang the Toyota showroom and they said it wasn't a warning light.
Is there a way I can switch it off? Read more
Visited Halfords this morning, they have a sale on cleaning chemicals if any one is interested?
I purchased some autoglym products including two types of wax and shampoo. I was wondering what other peoples views are on this versus the many other brands available. Ive used autoglym for many years but find it stops beading the water after about 5 washes ( even using their shampoo that states it does not strip waxes!) any views on how to keep paintwork looking its best and lasting products to do so.... thanks Read more
Sounds interesting, thanks for that !
Edit: Available from our friend's at Amazon apparently. ...
With the current hoo haa around Brexit I wonder if it advisable to drive into France with a car bought only last week from an auction ie Mannheims.
No V5 yet as it can take 5 weeks for it to arrive from the DVLA.... Read more
Got stopped in our village in Brittany by two very young Gendarmes. Produced all the documents only to find I hadn't put the new insurance certificate in the wallet and the one there had expired. They looked at the tax disc, saw it was valid and wished us a happy holiday.

Recently discovered on a channel I'd never heard of - Blaze. Available on Freeview, Sky and Virgin, but I watched on the free app as you then have access to catch up.
The premise of the show is two mechanics trying to double their money by buying a banger, fix it up and selling on. The pair appear to know what they are doing although, like many shows of this format, it's easy to question whether the viewer gets to see the whole story. Also easy to question the mathematics of each project.... Read more
I made the mistake of starting to watch 'Stripping cars for cash' or some such title. Overplayed 'diamond geezer' type characters reminded me of Harry Enfield's 'loadsamoney'. That was fiction too.
Hi simple comparison - advice greatly received
Im in the market for a new Dacia Duster 2019
Decided on 2wd either Comfort or prestige model - my only concerns are
1) with the prestige is the lower profile tyres and 17 inch wheels ( will they give a harder ride?)
2) on the prestige it has the keyless entry is this more prone to theft?
3) diesel is a add blue is this a pain?
4) is the 1.3 petrol turbo a better bet or is the Diesel more drivable / torquey etc
Any thoughts? Any one experienced the cars ref the above?
Info - i travel two 18 mile trips per day 5 days a week and two 40 mile round trips at weekend. Always had diesels with no issues but aware of many nightmare story's on this formula with dpf etc. Current car Dacia Duster 2016 Diesel 51.000 miles so aware of what im buying and happy with choice its just the above to consider please. Thank you

This is the second report of the RAC resetting fault codes to get a car mobile. The first was on the 11/4 regarding a Kia Sportage. the owners car was again under agreement to the dealer with the RAC. The KIA dealers insisted that since the RAC had cleared the codes they could not diagnose the problem and the owner was told he would have to wait until the problem re occurred! I just hope that the Nissan dealer is able to access the original codes for you.
Excellent article!.
Haven't had too much experience of mega mileage motors myself, but the first van i bought when i became a window cleaner was an Iveco Daily which had done 175k. I kept it for nearly a year, but decided it was far too big (though it was a SWB) and heavy duty (3.5t) for my needs. Really liked it though, loved the highly adjustable (and very comfy) seat, the truly epic heating/ventilation system, the 'london taxi' steering lock, and looking down on SUV drivers!. Read more
