Hi Everyone! Hope someone on here can help....

I've had this high pitch humming/whistling noise coming from my engine. It happens when I accelerate at a certain point usually heard in the first 3 gears. (noise still is heard when pressing the clutch in) it is also heavily noticeable after switching off the engine as seen in the video.

I hope someone knows the issue, sometimes it's barely noticeable, sometimes louder and sometimes does happen at all, so I'm at a loose end with this one!

Please see the following video of the noise : (Video has a few different clips, might need to turn the volume up to hear the noise, hard job to do when driving!)

This sounds like air “moosing” . Seems to be worse when you have your foot off the gas and when switching off engine , conditions when engine vacuum is highest. I would check all air/ vacuum pipelines make sure there are no air leaks. Also check the oil filler cap is on securely.

My Stepway automatically locks all the doors within seconds of me getting in the car.

I would rather make that choice myself and wonder if anyone knows if there is some way to disable this feature ? Cant seem to find it in the handbook. ... Read more

My Accord has a similar feature, if you press the unlock button on the remote just once, it will re-lock the car after about 30 seconds, if you press it twice it stays unlocked.

I've been looking at the procedure for changing the timing belt on my wife's T200 Connect (TDDi, 75PS, Endura-Di engine with the wet chain & dry belt arrangement.)

The Haynes manual says that the camshaft and engine must be locked with the various special tools, and the camshaft pulley removed.... It's this last bit that I'm querying.... Read more

This is one of the easiest belts to change. You are only timing the diesel pump to the camshaft. . I would just mark the pulleys with paint. Rotate engine and recheck . Make sure you do the job with engine cold. If you buy a quality belt kit, it will come with a new tensioner.

Hi, I have a fiesta mk8, bought new in October 2017, it’s a lovely car to drive, or was, over the last few months the gearchange has become really awful, it’s hard to describe fully, but it clunks in the first three gears, sometimes it resists going in especially second gear, and sometimes it won’t come out of gear, again second, although it doesn’t stick and will change, I’ve found there’s more resistance going in and out of gears, I’m wondering if it’s a syncro problem, ?, it’s better in 5 and 6, but I’m not sure if these are going the same way, have been back to supplying dealer twice, and the second time one of the service guys drove the car, but couldn’t offer a solution, I really don’t know what to do, the car is still under warranty, which was extended a further two years..but the dealer seem reluctant to book the car in to have a proper look, I guess something has to break before they will do anything.. Problem is, they seem reluctant to investigate the problem, I guess if they strip the gearbox , and find nothing, then it costs them...

My work van developed an electrical fault a couple of weeks ago, basically a whole host of warning lights came up on the dashboard including ABS & traction control, and the cigarette light and speedo stopped working. As it's less than 2 years old I took it back to Vauxhall as it's still under warranty. After they'd had it for a couple of days they said they had found the fault and a replacement part was order and would be fitted tomorrow. After chasing for nearly a week they told me it was a major electrical fault and they would have to get a specialist to come and look at it. I asked if i could have my van back so i could get someone else to take a look at it, and also explained it was my main source of income and i needed it back urgently, but i was told it was in the workshop in bits and even if they put it back together i still couldn't drive it with the electrical faults. Then after nearly 2 weeks without a van, they told me it was caused by water getting into a cracked back light and it was not covered by the warranty and i'd have to pay the £485 repair bill? I quizzed them as i couldn't see how water getting into a light could cause so many electrical faults and why it took them 2 weeks to diagnose? After several hours backwards and forwards on the phone they agreed to knock £15 off, so the repair would only cost me £470 !! Unfortunately i'm self employed and my van is my source of income, being without it has cost me several £1,000's in lost income and i couldn't be with it any longer so i agreed to pay. When i arrived to collect it the cracked back light was still not repaired. When i asked why they hadn't replaced it, if it had caused all the problems they told me it was not the back light but it was because i'd knocked the interior light in the back of the van and caused a short curcuit? So now i'm £470 worse off I've lost 2 weeks income and I've still got a cracked back light.

What i can't work out is how a fault with a light has effected so many different systems including the brakes, surely any system associated with safety like ABS and traction control should be on a separate circuit and protected by a separate fuse? Also how did it take them nearly 2 weeks to diagnose the problem? I'm convinced something doesn't add up, i think there might me an underling fault and they have blamed the back light and interior light to make it out to be my fault so i would have to pay for the repair, but how can i prove it? Hi my daughters Fiat 500 runs fine and is still in use on local trips but it suddenly had the following messages and lights appear on the clock - this was her message to me:

Bought a 6 month old Sportage from Kia Arnold Clark Dealership 6 weeks ago. It had only done 125 miles when bought. Last night it broke down (went into limp mode).

After contacting Arnold Clark, they put me through to RAC (1 year cover when you buy car) and they sent roadside assistance straight away. The technician plugged in his tablet, brought up fault codes (P061B), Torque Control Signal System. He said dealers don't normally like you to delete codes but he would print off a report showing what codes come up and id just need to hand these into dealer.Codes were cleared and car was now drivable and i went on my way... Clarks put you on to the RAC, did they offer to recover the car themselves? If not you were acting on their advice so I can't see why they won't at least have a look for you. All they need to do is plug in their machine and assure that there are no faults present now....or am I missing something? Maybe a lesson for all of us, get the car back not letting anyone else do anything.

I do approx 20 miles per day, urban driving, would it be cost effective buying a Hybrid on finance, or just sticking with a small petrol car? Are there any grants available for this?
