I had the front lower control arm wishbone bushes replaced (common fault).

When I had the tracking done at a separate garage, the mechanic said the passenger side one hasn't been fitted correctly and has been twisted (apparently it should fit within a star shape in the hole?). And because of this, there is a small gap between the wishbone and its mounting point on the body.... Read more

Take it back to the garage where you had the original bushes changed if badly fitted as this is a safety issue. eg How would you car perform in an emergency stop!

Hi i currently been having a problem with my car's cooling system. The car is regularly overheating and the STOP warning light starts flashing. Although the water resivoir didn't always need topping up whenever I twisted the cap off and pressure was released the water would begin to rise and overflow so then more water was then needed. I was under the impression that the temp of the new water was kicking in the thermostat and allowing the temp to drop. Maybe I was wrong. I was informed by somebody that the relay switch could need replacing. So I got a new one and replaced it. (The black relay) it seemed to work a lot better for about a week before it began happening again and upon inspection I noticed that the 30a fuse located by the fan had blown so replaced that but then I noticed that there was a wire corroded away from somewhere and it appeared to be going to the other relay (the green one) so I stripped it back and refitted it into the socket, cleaned off the green relays terminals and pushed it back in. The problem is still occuring and I'm not sure what I'm missing could somebody please help Read more

Google "Planet owners map" and find a local fellow Pug owner who can test the fan for you.

307s have an issue where the fan relays under the bonnet slam panel get corroded due to the elements over the years. Strip down, clean and re-protect....

HJ always praises the higher cost detergent added fuels. Has there been any independent tests done to prove which ones offer the best in terms of detergent efficiency and performance / mpg improvement over the standard fuel? Or what is your own experience and recommendation? Thank you .... Read more

Google says batteries last up to 5 years but sometimes only 2-3 years. I have never replaced the battery in my three (well-serviced Jap) cars (9 years, 9 years and 8 years) , have I been lucky or is Google full of doom and gloom ? Read more

Dunno, but it took a rather long time to charge after I bought it (from a local garage) so it was probably already quite old.

Won't be doing that again. High turnover specialist outlet next time

Regarding the water ingress, I would suggest checking the thickness of the paintwork around the vehicle. Not uncommon to buy a vehicle involved in accident, as I unluckily did twice for buying "ex-demo". In my Leon was the air intake flap, rear driver' side, mounted the other way around. Instead blocking water to get in, was blocking air to get out. And in my DS3, was the grommet were the windscreen washer for the back enters the cabin which was lose, for some reason. Read more

Re Roundabout way

Surely the correct method is not signalling right when going around the roundabout. It is in effect a straight road, but indicating left when about to leave. Too many people forget to switch of the right indicator and just exit. If a vehicle is not indicating then it is obvious that it going around.

More left-foot braking nonsense. Trying to get an experienced driver to learn to left-foot brake will likely cause far more accidents than it would ever prevent.

About a month ago whilst driving into town a dry bearing type sound started coming from the engine bay. My initial thought it was the water pump on its way out as it sounded just like a similar noise I had on a Mazda many years ago.

Took it to my local garage and they said all the pumps and belt pulleys where fine but that both belts where very worn and shiny so both were replaced. At first all was well until the engine got hot and the noise started again, unfortunately I was on a long drive so had to carry on. The noise does not come on when cold.... Read more

Cats hardly ever need replacing and there is nothing in them to 'leak', apart from some condensation. Just try tightening the 'looseness' if do-able, otherwise let well alone. The MoT emissions will tell you if it is working OK.
