I haven't watched the video but I agree with your headline declaration.
Late last year I did my customary painstaking research and bought a low mileage used Sandero. Initially I was impressed with it but the gilt soon fell from the gingerbread and after a mere two months I got rid of it for a Kia (Picanto). What most irked me about the former beast was the characteristics of the turbo engine plus a most annoying boot key situation and, above all, utterly useless satnav, which device caused me unprecedented inconvenience. Grrrrrr!
As for the Picanto, thé 1.2 version, It's a basically fine(er) product but has a split personality: in the urban environment - it's natural habitat of course - it almost reaches sophistication levels (though at idle it betrays a slight 'interventionist' trait) but take it on the motorway and the powertrain proves to be a tad underpowered and just a little bit too noisy. Nice try, Kia, but you need to tweak it here and there. One mega minus point is a ridge in the driver's footwell which irritatingly catches your shoe's toecap when operating the clutch... Oh, a word about the satnav, viz perfection. Read more
Had a youngish guy driving an Audi A3 run into the back of me today whilst I was stationary in a queue at traffic lights.
Quite a "bang", but not enough impact for his air-bags to deploy. My rear bumper is ruined (and the parking sensors have given up the ghost) and other than that and two very minor dents in the tailgate (probably fixable by a good "dent-doctor"), I've got-off lightly.... Read more
Tell the kid's insurance co. that either repair by your VW garage or you will go through your insurance co. If you let the other insurance co. deal with it, I believe you have no route to complain through the ombudsman if you are not satisfied with the repair.
I know this is a relatively newly released engine. Does anyone have any experience of its reliability and drivability etc . Im hours away from ordering it in my new car so any thoughts gratefully received Read more
I was in the existing scheme but its being wound up and replaced with Shell Go. This offers an App option but you can still have a card which I prefer.
However in registering for a card, as well as the obvious address, they now ask for date of birth and car reg. I can't see any valid reason for either of these so I have entered fictitous ones. I am not happy at them holding uneccessary personal details.
Am I being paranoid? Read more
Alan exactly but age in years and car model as such are not too sensitive in terms of data and I wouldn't be too concerned at those. However Reg no is an uneccessary detail, while dob is an important piece of your specific means of identifying yourself. It shouldn't be gathered uneccessariily.
The fact is that Shell (or a hacker) could potentially link this data and my credit card details ( thats how I pay) to my home address (where they send my Shell card). Not altogether comfortable prospect hence my using dummy data.
It'll be interesting to see if they query the car reg as its not a valid number. If they do I will cease the application. Its a few quid benefit to me a year at most.

Voltage at the battery terminals is not an accurate test for its condition. Find a workshop with a battery conductance tester that will measure the actual Cca value against the specs on the label.
I bought an approved used BMW (6 months old at the time of buying) a year ago and the car is still under manufacturer's warranty till next year. Few months ago, I noticed that the lane departure light was turning on but the sensor was not doing anything. I could not get the car checked due to work commitments and finally managed to send the car today for inspection to a different BMW dealer near by (as moved home last year). They mentioned that the front windscreen was not the original screen and may have been replaced at some point. The screen has bubbling and that's why the sensor is not working. They cannot fix under manufacturer's warranty as the screen is not an original BMW part and advised me to contact the dealer I bought the car from.
I was not aware that an after market windscreen was in place and it was not mentioned by the dealership while buying. ... Read more
.. the easiest solution is to put a hammer and punch to the screen to crack it and then get your insurers to replace it. If the lane departure still does not work the dealer cannot blame the screen then.
That would be fraud.
Just pootling about down here. Japanese and Korean makes are really dominant down here. I'm curreently renting my second i30. Off to Brisbane tomorrow.
I keep seeing lots and lots of Xtrails here. Will be in Perth in a few days and will see what's popular there. Unleaded about oz dollars 1.40 a litre. Read more
It's about fifteen years since I visited a friend in Brisbane. He and the family were big Ford fans - I enjoyed their breathed on 4 litre model. Also had a Japanese 4x4 (LR products regarded as a joke) and a campervan but I have forgotten the makes now. Have a feeling he had a Hyundai now.
Hi
As I have owned diesels for many years I have not needed to worry about petrol engine servicing until now, my daughter has an Audi A1 1.2 FSi that requires a service no problem I thought until I came to the spark plugs in essence how do you A; remove the coil caps & B; get the plug spanner onto and extract the plugs?... It does sound like the DPF is probably not being allowed to regen itself.
Driving at high revs won't induce a regen....
Hi.
Whilst trying to get the reversing light to work I seem to have immobilised the van. It was working fine then it stopped stopping.
The stereo is now acting as if the battery was disconnected, it wasn’t
The immobiliser light on the dash is NO longer on and does NOT come on when the van cycles through the dash lights on start up.
The engine will turn over but does not fire up.
I have checked all the fuses and they seem to be fine.
The indicators also fail to work (I don’t know if this is connected, but they did work before)
I have tried the key in the lock and push button trick, this didn’t work.
As I say It was working. I was fiddling with the wires on the reversing light, including a non working reversing kit (after market). And then the stereo looked as though it had had a power cut and now the engine just spins and doesn’t fire.
Help please ??.
Cheers in advance. Read more
hi,,
you need to ask this on both the technical forum and the renault owners forum....

What it lacks, as do most makes, is a seven year warranty. My Kia had this , now run out, and I liked the confidence Kia put in their car. If a manufacturer thinks a car will only last , reliably, three years he can keep it is my opinion.
Waste of time, money and hassle to have breaking down car.
In my seven year warranty I needed a new brake light switch. Installed, at no cost of course, next day.Can Dacia match that? Come on ,try!
