Regarding the water ingress, I would suggest checking the thickness of the paintwork around the vehicle. Not uncommon to buy a vehicle involved in accident, as I unluckily did twice for buying "ex-demo". In my Leon was the air intake flap, rear driver' side, mounted the other way around. Instead blocking water to get in, was blocking air to get out. And in my DS3, was the grommet were the windscreen washer for the back enters the cabin which was lose, for some reason.

Regarding the fuel consumption, I would also consider the weather in recent weeks. For short mileage trips the impact is easy to see, but I would expect better mph even for long runs.
In my experience, the Shell V-power diesel returned better mpg than the BP option. That for a Mazda CX5 auto. For my fiancée's A-class the BP gives a better mpg. My brother always used Morrisons for his Peugeot 208. Started running rough last week, at 30k miles. When idling, sounding like was going to stall, jumping from 800rpm to 1k, then back. Filled up with Shell V-power nitro and so far so good. Said the mpg was better, so offset the increased price.

Going well on Shell

I usually run my Jazz on Momentum 99 from Tesco because I am lazy and my closest garage is a Tesco store. I commute daily from Cardiff to Bristol and consistently get about 300 miles from a tank (heavy right foot). However I refuelled in London last week at a BP with their Super Unleaded and got nearly 340 miles from my tank, which makes me consider changing up where I refuel. I wasn't aware that Momentum didn't have an 'additive pack' either.

Re: The ins and outs

Might also be worth considering the Subaru Forester. It has a higher roof and seating position than many of it's rivals and the doors open out to 90 degrees.

Re Roundabout way

Surely the correct method is not signalling right when going around the roundabout. It is in effect a straight road, but indicating left when about to leave. Too many people forget to switch of the right indicator and just exit. If a vehicle is not indicating then it is obvious that it going around.
