Anyone any experience with this?
If an exhaust is badly fitted or if it has a blocked dpf, can it cause a rapid failure of a turbo? Trying to figure out if I need to replace a turbo or an exhaust.... Read more
You havn't stated what engine this is, what is the engine code.
What code reader are you using, VCDS will give the best results....
I recently gave a team mate a lift to the rink, and discovered that the hand brake is on the passenger side of the central area, hence I was rubbing his leg whenever I needed to use the hand brake. Very embarrassing. Obviously VW have not bothered to adapt the hand brake position for a right hand drive car. Bizarre. And I've not heard anyone else mention this. Check the online reviews, and you'll see that it is like that in the review cars.
You'd think they would adapt it to the UK market, seems not, penny pinching I guess. Read more
If you buy a car with an electronic parking brake and manual transmission, you need to be sure that it has hill-hold assistance (which is noirmally activated by the footbrake - well, it is on Audis anyway).
No, you don't....
Hi, first time post on here and hoping there is someone that can help me out with this problem.
I want to try give all the information, so sorry for the long post!
2011 Meriva 1.7 (Denso type) 85,000 miles.
So I bought this car about a week ago as a spares or repair, this is a summary of what the previous owner told me his garage had already replaced these parts:
Fuel regulator/SCV
MAF
Rail pressure sensor
After this his garage told him it must be the hp pump.
I could see that these parts had been changed as the old units were inside the car, however they had fitted the wrong SCV valve as when checking the loom plug, it was just resting on the SCV plug!
The car cranks and almost starts during the first 5 seconds of cranking, but after this just cranks with no signs of firing, if you leave it a minute and try again it will try briefly again.
I have tried with easy start and this doesnt seem to have much effect and after trying to crank this way for around 10 seconds the engine kind of locks up with back pressure and struggles to turn over.
When using the easy start it caused a cam sensor code, which I swapped before I realized it was the back pressure causing the disturbance in signal between cam & crank sensors.....money wasted. I presume the crank sensor is ok as there is no code and live data shows rpm at 200 or so when cranking?
The in-tank pump makes an 'groaning noise and primes for like a minute, which seems like a long time and an unusual noise - I've had the tank of and put 12v direct to the pump which makes it throw fuel out at a decent rate - also changed the fuel filter - so presume this side of the system is ok and maybe normal for this car?
When cranking live data shows the rail pressure at around 200 bar initially and then can spike up to around 500 bar - is this why it tries to start initially and then doesnt because the pressure is too high....is that a thing?
When cranking if you crack the injectors or rail there is diesel there - I've had all the injectors checked by a local specialist.
I have installed a second hand pump complete with SCV valve from a 30,000 mile car and symptoms remain unchanged - absolute nightmare of a job off the floor!! New cam belt fitted and timing checked with marks and cyl 1 at TDC.
So the only code is P0089 with returns immediately when cleared, which points to it being an electrical rather than mechanical fault?
I have done a voltage drop test from the SCV loom plug and there is 2.5v being read between battery negative and plug negative, my understanding is that anything over 0.5v on a drop test is a problem - Could this cause a no start like I am getting.
Any advice or questions gratefully received as this car is pushing me close to the edge lol Read more
A diesel engine with no fuel should fire up on gentle application of easy start. If it doesn't ,then I suspect you may have a mechanical problem. Have you done a compression test?
Hello,
Sorry in advance if I have put this in the wrong place.
I was wondering what you think is a better car for a family of three (I have a 11 week old daughter).
I’m stuck between the VW Golf Match edition 1.5 petrol or the SEAT Arona SE Tech 1.0.
It’s mainly the boot size of the Arona and the ride Height that makes it an option.
What do you think is the better car and why? Read more
Good morning. I started the thread mentioned in the 2nd post above, concerning the 1.5 EVO petrol engine. Whilst the basic specs of this engine sound very good i.e. petrol, 150hp, etc, my advice stays the same ........ DO NOT touch one with a barge-pole.
My 1.5 (manual) Karoq is back with the dealer and, until a (software?) fix is found, I have been given a 2L diesel Scout as a courtesy car....
My wife needs a new car to commute about 40 mins up the A1 every day. The interior look is important to her. She's considering either a Mini Cooper or a Mercedes A180 petrol. Both would have to be automatics as that's all she can drive.
I understand both cars use a 7 speed DCT automatic box which as far as I can tell is supplied by Getrag. I have read reports of the A class being slow to pull out from junctions. We did test drive the A class but they only had a diesel & I found that difficult to pull out smoothly. Nothing happened & then it accelerated hard with wheel spin. I only had a short drive so maybe in time I would have adjusted to the sensitive accelerator pedal.... Read more
Odd one that. I’ve no idea why he wanted to do this when you had your licences with you. Probably right enough to walk. Shame as the cars are very worthy.
I think he wanted to check that we had not been disqualified from driving and possibly how many points were on our licenses....
Well it didn't take long, owner reports to HJ Agony column today that his new car is displaying a dash problem with the PPF. Ford assures him that the PPF is doing its job and basically to ignore the dash.
HJ advises the owner to fill up with top grade fuel and drive the first 5miles at 2000revs.... Read more
PPF, GPF, OPF (Particulate filters for petrol cars) technologies are new to market as of last year - myself I'll wait a while until any teething design gremlins are ironed out. It is supposed to be simpler as because of the higher combustion temps only passive regen should be needed - time will tell .....
Some cars with port fuel injection are not fitted with particulate filters - er yet. ...
I have recently had 3 speeding notifications through the post and thus 9 points for going through the same average speed camera at 54mph in an average 50mph on a dual car ridgeway. The camera was new and the 3 offences occurred within 1 week of each other so I hadnt known that 54mph average was above the threshold.
I do a lot of motorway driving and was wondering if anyone knew what (if any) the threshold is for these average cameras? I always presumed it was 10 percent over? ... Read more
I guess not, I admit I hadn't realised that it was an old thread.
At least the points that the OP didn't get, would be off their licence now!
I am looking for a car with naturally aspirated engine as I dislike all turbo ones.
My favourite is a Toyota gt86, are there any other ones about new or used under £15k. Read more
In our household we have been driving cars with Turbo's since 1996 and would not buy a car without one. The total is currently 8 plus we have had 2 with superchargers as well. Petrols and diesels. Only problem we have had in those 23 years has been a vacuum sensor pipe that was too short and closed up when the engine moved slightly, sorted same day under warranty.
Not really enough data....
Thanks, will let you know
