I pretty much always had to do that trick of returning to neutral and releasing the clutch briefly before reverse would engage on my old Citroen, which I guess had a similar design of gearbox. It always worked then, so perhaps the dealer is telling the truth and it really is a feature of the OP's Peugeot! A strange and very mildly annoying feature but there it is. The Citroen went on for 16 years so, as others have said, probably not a serious problem.

hi all just wondering if someone could help me abit..i bought a car from a well established car sales,i got the car on monthly installments, its a used car. ive had the car for 2 months(61000 on clock),i noticed that when i put it in reverse gear there was a jerking noise, also in other gears..i took the car to the car centre and they put it on diagnostic machine, results came back that theres a fault within the gearbox in reverse and 5th gear. could anyone tell me where i stand with regards to the cost to repair. my car is booked back in next month to get the gearbox stripped and hopefully repaired. now i explained to the parts person dealing with me that i have a 2 year warrenty with the car and that i also bought another 2 year warrenty making 4 years warrenty,he looked at me like i was daft then says ah ok...surely under the sale of goods act they should be liable for the repair costs as ive only had it 2 months..theyre trying to sting me for £50 for a diagnostics they done today which i didnt know about..any advice please as i dont want to get stung. thanks.. I have recently acquired the Volvo from new (2WD, D3). I have done approximately 2000 miles and the current snowy weather in east Lancashire has revealed very poor traction in slippery conditions. The OEM Michelin Primacy 4 (235/55R18/100V) do not seem up to the job. Can anyone recommend a remedy? If I need to change the tyres is there any suppliers that would take the Michelins in part exchange?

P.S. It is snowing as I type ???!... Read more

This website has very useful videos about tyres, what's good and not so good. You can also research alternative tyres to fit your wheels http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ - but buying a second set of wheels for winter use is also a sensible course of action if you live in areas where snow is common. I did this for my previous car in 2010 when I visited the alps, there was an initial outlay but the winter tyres lasted many years ... and I did delay need to purchase of new tyres by a year or so.

Hi,

I've driven petrol cars all my life. But when researching makes and models for a "new used" purchase pretty much everything we looked at recommended a diesel engine. We tried the CR-V 1.6 and the CX-5 2.2 and are currently favouring the latter as it seemed so much more enjoyable to drive.... Read more

Have a look at a Skoda Yeti. Our regular member KB has a 1.2 petrol and says it has ample performance.

I thought of that as well, but hesitated following the number of faults the car generally has had (see its Good and Bad Section). Not sure if they updated the 1.2 during the Yeti's lifetime (I think so) - perhaps the later variant was more reliable that earlier versions - hard to tell as many of the later faults documented regarding the 1.2 may have referred to early cars. Timing chains in particular seemed to be an issue, but I wasn't sure that design/manufacturing fault was rectified at some point for newer models....

Hi all

Just looking for advice. I’d like to buy a Lexus LS I’ve got about £8k to spend does anyone know what I should look out for on these lovely cars. I’ll only look for ones with full history etc. But does anyone actually own one as I’ve heard good reviews. I know if stuff goes wrong it can be expensive

Any help greatly appreciated Read more

I bought mine from an elderly gent who had stopped driving.

I'd just come out of a bad relationship with a 2003 Jag XKR...looked amazing...future super classic but mechanically it was really poor quality and like many including BMW, Range Rover was plagued with the appalling ZF gearbox. That was only one of the issues....

Hi my 308 hdi starting leaking coolant down an around the oil cooler .What do i have to replace thank you. Read more

RichardW

On this engine the oil cooler is bolted to the front of the block, and both oil and water enter and leave via holes in the block. There is a complex set of gaskets behind the cooler to isolate the various passages from each other and the outside world. Unless the cooler is split, the replacing the gaskets may be enough. In fact, just tightening the bolts may stop it.

Hi guys. Hi have an kuga 2008 2.0 diesel manual. I own this car for 6 months with no issues. 4 days ago I want to mecanic to change timing belt and water pump. Everthing was fine. But today when i was preparing to park my car, a massage came with " engine malfunction". And everytime when I trun on the engine same message coming but no limp mode or any other problema. Actually the car drives very well like always. Since I bought the car I never left city and all the time I was driving only to work and home. In 6 months I've done only 1000 miles. Could this be the problem, or is because of something done wrong during the timing belt change? Read more

More electrical problems .
Both dipped headlights have suddenly stopped working. Which is strange. All other lights fine.
Is this a common fault please ? Read more

Modern lights are pretty good so I venture a guess that one bulb blew a while ago and it was only when #2 went that it was noticed.

And given the number of vehicle I see on the road with one operating lamp it would seem credible....

Dart charge fine. We have incurred a dart charge fine from a enforcement agent called JBW, of nearly £1000 even though we have had an on going account paying automatically since the dart charge online has been in place and need some advice please. My partner was paying for both of our cars for years and due to her card expiry, we must hsve missed 4 crossing payments. The dart charge company apparently informed us via a letter, but was sent to our previous address so we never saw there was a problem. She was notified to top account up and change cards to a valid card, but was still never informed that there was some unpaid crossings, dating back to end of 2017. The fines have always been outstanding we were never aware till we received a enforcement letter totalling £997 on the 21/12/2018. Is there any advice on how to act, as we have always been honourable people, always had an account to our knowledge and been paying it off and had 4 x £2.50 crossings now totalling £997.00. The stress that puts on a family who feel we have done the correct thing all along is unbelievable and want to fight this but not sure where to begin. Please any advice Many thanks Kevin Read more

Still hoping for an update from OP.

Today I tried to change my top up method from debit card to Direct Debit. Couldn't sort on website as apparently I failed security after multiple attempts to type by sort code; you'd think 09-01-27 as it appears on my card and chequebook would be right but apparently not. ...
