I have a Renault 2.5 d Master year 2000, and have experienced a loss of power and lots of smoke.
The problem is that the engine oil is getting into the fuel supply, i have lost over 1 ltr... Read more
Casually glancing through Autotrader last night I found a nine year old Mitsubishi Lancer with only 11,000 miles. On the assumption that this is genuine, and the photographs are a true representation of the condition of the car, would you buy it? The price is £3,490.
It reminds me of the 11 year old Fiat Punto I bought for my son to drive once he passed his test. It too had under 11,000 miles on it. Mechanically it has been perfect and apart from my son managing to scrape every panel, the bodywork has been fine also, with any bare metal causedby scrapes remaining rust free for months. ... If I may poke my nose in unannounced, my suggestion to badbusdriver is that it's pointless pursuing the matter with the gentleman in question. When he was here previously (with his current username, or any number of other nomenclatures, he followed much the same type of approach to topics. He went away for quite a while .... but must have missed the place, and seems to be back. For the sake of a quiet life just agree that he's right and leave it at that.
You are probably right KB!, but I'm OK with it. It amuses me and gives me something to do (on this horrible day, certainly up here in Aberdeenshire!)
Entertaining as always, which given the RAV4 clearly is not, was good going, but aren't Toyota's like that, albeit not so noisily Read more
No problem, thanks for saying so. :-D
We were pulled over for a document infringement - apparently the documents that Toyota provided us weren't the right ones. Toyota assures us they were (and dealt with the whole thing very well), but it quite quickly became clear that the only way we were getting the plane home was to pay the fine and be on our way. Oh well.

My Fiat Ducato 2.8 jtd is misfiring when under load and engine is warmed up. It only happens at 3000 rpm and only when engine reaches running temperature. Nothing shows up when garage put it on their tester and no faults on dash. No smoke although exhaust is footy. So far we have replaced the crank sensor which didsort a stalling problem which had been going on for sometime. The misfire started after this was done. We replaced the MAP sensor and the temp sensor. It’s been with an auto electrician and still no joy. Injectors were all checked. Can anyone advise as to what else we can check prior to taking it to a Diesel engine specialist next week. Thank you. Read more
" The misfire started after this was done" .Is this a genuine fiat crank sensor or one of those anymake parts?
So local authorities are looking again at taxing drivers to park in the work place. A figure of £20 per week is apparently being considered as a reasonable charge. How do councils expect this to be collected? Is it to be another burden on the employer as I cannot see any other way of collecting the revenue. If you park outside of the employers premises and walk in how does that work? I assume that if you drive a Rolls Royce then you don't have to work! Read more
It's particuarly common in schools: whereas previously parents might say 'these things happen' when a child breaks a bone on the sports field, now they will blame the school and see if they can get some unearned money through the courts.
Yes, Avant, and one of the unintended consequences is to curtail the willingness of volunteers to contribute. It's too risky and unnecessarily complicated - apart from the sour taste of not being seen as trustworthy.

Surely that is unlikely to be the case at a Lexus dealer?.
As for others, no direct experience of this, but i have read that Infiniti dealers offer very good customer service. Though this is no doubt, at least in part, to try and steal Audi/BMW/Mercedes customers unhappy, for whatever reason, with the service they've recieved....

Here in sunny Basingstoke we have been given some new multi lane roundabouts...'improvements' There have been several accidents...my wife is a witness to one at the moment where a bloke shot across two lanes. Vehicles enter the roundabouts in the indicated lane then as soon as they are on the roundabout the needed lane changes. The main problem is the inside lane people who got the wrong lane pull over right causing the bother. I've been cut up several times in this way. Read more
"It was much quicker to drive the Hemel Hempstead one the "wrong" way round - because most drivers could only cope the "right" way round."
I'm not sure that applies. Most drivers on the Magic Roundabout are local, or at least frequent users, and go whichever way they think quickest. I most usually use it in medium traffic early evenings, going from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock and go anti-clockwise; on returning I go clockwise....
So the D of E has a lucky escape from a crash involving him joining a main road from his estate.
Goes to show how your choice of vehicle can influence the outcome of an accident , more importantly at the age of 97.
Most retired people downsize to a Hyundai I 10 or equivalent at a time when they are considered a high risk by insurers in view of their possible eyesight and medical conditions. Read more
Diana P of W might be alive today if she'd been wearing a seat belt when her car crashed.
Almost certainly......alive and well. And the two dead men. And the surviving bodyguard would not have had to have the front of his skull rebuilt. The MB 'S' class crumpled as it should have done on impacts leaving the cabin virtually undistorted. It beggars belief that VIPs still often don't wear belts even when driven by drivers trained to drive like Adam Kirley.

I've had a look at various parts diagrams and fiches for this engine. - Assuming that it isn't a common rail engine with just a high pressure pump, there is a possibility that if it uses a rotary distributor pump, either gear or chain driven, that the pump drive shaft seal is leaking.
On a belt driven pump I know they will leak air into the pump from that front seal causing poor running - hard starting etc. On a timing case mounted pump with engine oil in the timing case, crankcase oil and air will be sucked into the pump via the leaking seal. This stacks up with what the OP said about the smoke. Some of the fuel in the pump will get injected and burnt, about 30-50 % of it will get returned to the tank....
