My partners MOT is coming up and she's worried about it failing on DRL, offside blows as soon as I change the bulb.

I suspect only answer is a garage / auto electrician, but before I do that - is this a common fault, anything I could check easily myself? It's not a fuse. I can barely get in to change the bulb, so checking wires isn't easy, but all I can see looks OK. Probably a short somewhere.... Read more

Only if they are also side/park lights . You will probably find that the holder has burnt out ,not a fault with the bulb.

A quick question. I'm taking extended leave at the end of the month. Initially, 6 weeks I'll be out of the country. So I'll have no access to my company car. If I were to hand back my car keys during this period would HMRC deem that to be no longer a BiK?

Many thanks Read more

I'm not familiar with the records/returns that the company has to make - if they allocate the car to someone else during the 6 weeks then there's a case for you not paying it during that period - but if it's simply parked somewhere, I doubt it.

Hi,

New to forum hoping someone could offer some advice, i have a Audi A3 which was recalled in September 2017 due to ABS Unit failures. The previous owner took the vehicle in to audi and they performed a 45f5 ESC Control unit software update. The update was to give diagnostics on this particular fault ( insufficient PCU ground Connection ) i'm assuming there was not a issue with the grounding as the ABS Unit was not replaced at the time. Recently the the ABS warning light appeared on dash had a diagnostic done at Audi they diagnosed ( fault stored to replace ABS Control Unit - J104 ) they state they could not replace unit due to being over 6 months since the recall was carried out. The unit has now failed with the issue it was first recalled for so if this had happened when they did the recall, the unit would have been replaced free of charge and now they want to charge me the full amount to replace it. I feel this is wrong as it is all down to the issue it was first recalled for i cannot see they can put a time frame on the ABS Unit which could fail at at any time unless previously replaced. I will be grateful if anyone could offer any advice on this one.... Read more

The Volvo 122 Amazon was a great car. It sold well in the 1960s to people whose Rover 2000s had turned out to be not nearly as well made as the 'granny' P4 Rovers they'd had before. The Amazon was very well made and reliable, and many owners went on to have 144s and 244s.

'Amazon' was a good name, too. A pity Volvo haven't (as far as I can remember) used a name again....

I don't do enough miles to make mpg a priority. Whilst there have been numerous threads about autos this is specific to two cars. Not essential but long term I would prefer auto. Budget not to exceed 11,000 pounds. Some have 4 speed automatic transmission and some e 6 speed. What are the advantages, disadvantages of different number ? Read more

Yes, i was aware of the fire engine origins of most of these American LaFrance's. Re the first link, that is indeed a wild looking thing, but i do prefer the more scruffy 'oily rag' look!. I remember reading an article in The Automobile magazine about a particularly scruffy Vauxhall 30/98, who's appearance appeals to me greatly!

Pick was the late 2.5 5cyl Volvo engined models with all the toys but the V6 Renault motor was ok. Glad this isn’t anywhere near me or I’d be going for a look.

Interesting, I didn't know Renault dropped the Volvo lumps into the Safrane.

I think it's a reply to the thread about the BMW 118d.

But there is a sort of relevance: it's certainly time to stop buying old diesel BMWs....

After a long wait, we have now got a date for the arrival of our new little KIA; we hadn’t organised a p/x at the time, which probably was a mistake; so will be looking to sell the existing Hyundai i20 which we have had from new but will be seven years old.
