That doesn't look good. The Germans aren't having a good time at the moment - WLTP testing delays, VAG 1.5TSI problems, all leading to significant drops in sales whilst issues are resolved, and that's not even including the after effects of Dieselgate. Read more

29th August 2019

I saw mine (2013 520d) was leaking soot and BMW diagnosed the same in April 2019.
They accepted a booking for replacement on August 28th - but failed to confirm they had the parts on August 27th.

Calls from customers that dealerships don't want to field are now handled by a call-centre - effectively cutting communication lines with the dealership ... presumably due to the time and liability involved in dealing these calls for dealerships.

I think it can safely be assumed that those who refuse to accept a hire car and sign the dealership's disclaimer are placed behind customers who accept a dealership hire car, in the repair queue ... which at the current EGR-cooler production rate, probably means they'll probably wait several years before receiving a replacement.

And a wait of such length almost certainly guarantees a melted inlet manifold with the attendant risk of fire.

It'll need customers to bring a class action suit in order to force BMW to make the investment required to step up production to an acceptable rate.

I would have respected the poster more if he had been honest and said we want something to bomb around country lanes like an idiot.

Oil consumption problems - HJ cites engines "that have been too gently driven during their break-in period" and "low revs" as a cause for the piston oil rings not bedding in.

But I always thought it good practice to limit the revs during break-in period, moreover that's the advice manufacturers give - do not use high revs in first 1000 miles.

Can HJ possibly expand on this as I'm sure his advice will confuse many - me included. Read more

PCP: As John says HC would have taken a contract out for 'up to' 40,000 miles. People seem to forget the meaning of a contract and happily agree to them as long as it all goes their way. I wonder if HC would have accepted an excess mileage charge with the same enthusiasm as the refund he thinks he deserves?

I have a problem with my cooling system that has me baffled I have no hot coolant in header tank the pipe on the bottom of tank is cold I have heat inside the car and the temperature gauge goes up to half way quickly I've fitted a new water pump incase it was that still the same so I changed the thermostat and it's still the same I've completely blead the system of air so I know it's not a air lock

If it's working, leave it;there shouldn't be any hot flow thro' it anyway if the system is working correctly.

Good call (maybe). On reflection I realise that I didnt really understand what the problem was, and was just assuming there was one, perhaps "no water in the header tank' rather than no hot water.

The main beam on my car (VW Beetle)does not flash with the indicator stalk. The high beam flashes if the lights are on off or dipped but as soon as I flick to main beam the blue tell tale goes off and will not flash, I am not 100% car mechanic savvy so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated please Read more

"The odd time I’ve been on motorways on weekdays there doesn’t seem to be the same sense of sales reps pounding the fast lane."

Ah - happy memories of being overtaken by the sales rep in his Cortina 1.6L or the area sales manager in his 2.0GL. I suppose it depends on the product: some will need to be demonsytraed face-to-face but I'm sure a lot is now done online....

Hi all,

My bin damaged my neighbour's car and he wanted me to pay repair cost.

(Situation explained in another topic: www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/127921/my-bin-dama...y )

You can see photos of damage in this link: photos.app.goo.gl/k4RzzFkn6vdsBs6CA

My neighbour said that it will cost more than thousand, I think he is planning to go official mercedes dealer.

I'm very new in the UK and I don't any idea about repair costs...

Can you guess how much does it cost for repair?

If there is any service person here, could he/she give me an offer for repairing? Read more

Look up your local dent master - those are minor and would be easily repaired by a specialist without the need to go to a Merc Dealer.

My partners MOT is coming up and she's worried about it failing on DRL, offside blows as soon as I change the bulb.

I suspect only answer is a garage / auto electrician, but before I do that - is this a common fault, anything I could check easily myself? It's not a fuse. I can barely get in to change the bulb, so checking wires isn't easy, but all I can see looks OK. Probably a short somewhere.... Read more

Only if they are also side/park lights . You will probably find that the holder has burnt out ,not a fault with the bulb.
