Hi all
Just wondered if anyone had some advice. Mid November I got a new water pump put on my car and had the cambelt changed at the same time, just before Christmas on my way home the DPF light comes on, nearly home and my car revs up and raced forward like the accelerator is stuck on, the revs came down however then revved up again at which point I turned the car off and pulled over. The car then wouldn’t start again as if it had a flat battery with the ticking noise. Towed it too the garage, who asked when I last put oil in, I said not for a while the level has always been alright. They said no it appears to have been overfilled. Basically they’re trying to tell me the car tried to regen itself but failed so ended up dumping the excess diesel into the oil sump. I’ve done a little bit off googling that says fuel could enter through the pistons. Basically they’re saying there could be damage to the engine now. Has anyone heard of this? Is it too much off a coincidence or happened within a month of the water pump and cambelt being changed? Just after some honest advice, thank you

As an example wiping corroded brake pipes with aluminium foil is not an MOT standard repair.

Didn't want to get distracted by irrelevence earlier, but now apparently I do....

It would be great if you find the make of the battery. 12 volt 3 year warranty does not mean very much. If there is no visible label on the top of the battery with the make and spec, then it could be one of those cheap and cheerful jobbies.

Our washing machine died yesterday, whatever supports the drum whilst its rotating has come adrift and the noise is terrible. Had it since about 2008 so its not worth fixing even though its been totally reliable so far.

Its a Zanussi and since its been trouble free (as was the Zanussi we had before this one - lasted probably 10 years) we immediately thought about another Zanussi. But the features the Mrs likes seem to have been deleted so off to Currys for a look. Samsung seen to have these features and have a 5 year warranty (parts and labour) thus off we go with the sales chappy. Its on sale for £400 (£170 off ) but no stock until end of January, sod it. Quick look on the moby and an on-line retailer has stock of the 8kg model at £40 less than Currys 9kg model and like Currys its free delivery.... Read more

Can't catch fire because of the way it's built - the air is heated before it gets blown into the drum, ...................

Sorry for my confusion, but what good would it be if the air was heated after it had left the drum?...

As time progresses and seemingly ordinary cars now exceed £40k new, are car dealers legally obliged to advise the customer of the extra £320 tax per annum on any second hand car before they commit to buy, and should they state it upfront on any advert? Read more

There's probably no legal obligation, just as there's no obligation to show the high VED on a 2007-17 gas-guzzler - like the insurance group/cost, it's something for the buyer to check.

Good afternoon

Despite my requesting G13 antifreeze, my recent cambelt/water pump change, the garage filled up with the orange/red antifreeze as to my request for G13 which is purple coloured. Should I be concerned? I assume antifreeze is either OAT or Silicate based so using correct spec is important as it can impact the engine and its seals. This was an AA approved garage.... Read more

Very likely to make no difference at all, but if it has G13 stamped on the coolant bottle, you might want to keep it correct. www.wolflubes.com/EN_EU/Blog/2016/What-you-need-to...x

My wife and 2 kids were on the A3 yesterday and an emergency vehicle approached. SWMBO said is that ambulance? I said no it's a Jam sandwich. Kids were totally confused and didn't know what we meant. It's fair enough these days as they don't even look like a Jam sandwich any more. Police cars aren't even white these days and don't have a single red line.

Apparently kids would call in police car or maybe a cop car.... Read more

Hi

I have been involved in very minor car incident where I slightly touched the bumper of the car before me. This was on traffic lights and no damage was done at all (not even a scratch). But the other driver registered this incident with his insurance company and there is a claim case created with my insurance company as a result. The other driver didn’t actually claim any damage and my insurer advised that if there is still no damage claimed after 6 months I can keep my No Claim Bonus intact (the incident happened 11 months ago).... If they said six months previously then I would see if I could hold them to that. If you have that in writing then they would find that very difficult to argue against, but I guess more likely that it was part of a telephone conversation.

I once specifically checked that I could insure a visitor from the USA on my car, to which they replied yes on the phone. When I came to do so they said it was not possible, EU citizens only apparently. I made a formal complaint and they then reviewed the tape and found that I was correct. So it could well be worth making a formal complain using their complaints procedure and seeing if the record is available to show that you are correct.

Although the collision was his fault, the issue is whether or not there was any damage to the other vehicle, and if not then the other party is making a false claim. It is known that insurance companies sometimes cave in rather than fight because the latter involves legal fees, and it's better for them to concede.
