I think you're being a bit unfair with this one. Even by your own review, this is pretty good! Read more
SWMBO's V70 2008 had a service last January and I booked it in as you do. It had escaped my notice that it had done 17k in that time. Anyway it's had an oil and filter plus air and fuel ones too so it's a lesson to me to check interval and mileage. Read more

HJ needs the ads to finance the site otherwise I would suggest just modifying the hosts file to redirect the advert to 0.0.0.0 You can even get lists of advert sites to add to the hosts file so that no adverts appear anywhere and you do not use your bandwidth downloading them.
Dear All, How do you know if you’ve got a good deal if you’re a cash buyer on a new car? I’ve been looking at Clio 0.9 TCE 90bhp Iconic nad there are loads of pre-reg on the market from Lookers, RRG, Evans Halshaw & Arnold Clark. In Sept. lookers were selling at £11,999 + RFL and now jan 2 £12,490 (+400 more). Evans Halshaw £11,490 & Arnold Clark £11,500. This is an outgoing Clio with new model/FL arriving in summer 2019. RRG told me they are selling some at a loss & couldn’t negotiate yet 3 weeks on some of the cars have reduced by a further £110-£200. How do i judge if I’m getting value for money? Should I wait? Any ideas welcome Read more
“I get the feeling dealers are not interested in cash purchasers.”
They’re not. They get commission on selling finance,
The last time I bought from a dealership was exactly 10 years ago - I was buying an ex-rental with part-ex worth £1000, but the buying experience was amicable and there was no reluctance to take immediate payment in full. That was soon after the credit crunch - I wonder if things have changed a great deal ....
Happy New Year everyone
This year I will on the lookout for a replacement car for my commute to work (25 miles per day in town driving) but as I am turning 40 in 6 months I want something fun to drive for under £12k.
But after having problems with my back over Christmas it may have to be something more sensible; which is a shame as I had my heart set on a Toyota GT86.
Also I am 6ft4” so most cars are ruled out due to my 36” inside leg.
I have a family to look after so can’t afford anything with a high tax bracket or thirsty on fuel and needs to be no older than 5 years old.
My current car is a Toyota Yaris which is limited on comfort as I drive with a small pillow for lumbar support.
These cars are what I like at present:
2015 Mazda 3 2.0 Petrol Sport-Nav
2014 Audi A3 1.4 TSI Sport (Sportback)
2015 Seat Leon 1.4 TFSI FR Tech
I do like the Honda CRZ but not sure on fit and comfortableness.
My wife’s car is a Honda CRV Auto so wouldn’t mind an auto as long as it’s reliable and good enough for my commute.
Any help would be most helpful. Read more
Another tall driver vote for the Volvo V40.
I am 6 foot 5 and find the driving position excellent. We have a 7 year old but he simply sits behind the passenger seat . Even so I don't actually have my seat all the way back....

“what would be my next course of action? FCA/Trading standards?”
First step is a polite conversation with the salesman concerned who has clearly made an error in doing his paperwork. Any settlement figure should’ve been requested before the deal was concluded and noted on the order form and then paid when the car was in their possession. If the finance company has taken money off you then the dealer simply owes you this amount. The only issue could arise if they were unaware that you had any outstanding finance which does sound likely if the finance company has said that no one has requested a settlement figure. How could they do the paperwork without knowing exactly what this figure was?
I have a T registration Toyota Corolla with a radio ariel that goes over the top front of the car. I have a new radio that has replaced the original factory radio and consequently the sound is better but is there a way I can improve the signal. My ariel is a screw on type and it's not loose, or am I stuck with the ariel I have because it's an old car?

If you've had the battery off you first need to perform a BSI reset.
What's the age of the battery? Random unconnected electrical faults can sometimes be down to an old battery or failing alternator.
I have a T registration Toyota Corolla 19 years old, automatic with just over 103,000 miles on the clock. I'm told that with older cars, even reliable cars like mine, which is in excellent condition, that a regular service is not that important and to just fix things, as and when they need doing. Some say different and that a regular service is essential. Is there anyone who could advise on this, particularly if you own my age Corolla.?

Thanks mutchly for that advise. I have a very good garage that have looked after it for years.

Good points SLO. As it happens I asked my very good indie about the chain when he MoT'd it last month as it has the characteristic ticking. His view was that it was normal. I will ask him to listen again at the next MoT.
The car has been in the family for over 6 years, only in the last two years has the mileage dropped. It had 10k/annual services until fourteen months ago when I did shell out for a full service despite its only having done 1500 miles since the previous one. So the chain has been well lubricated up to now. In my view its either already worn or not and whether I stick to annual or two year oil changes is unlikely to make a difference over the few remaining miles its likely to cover before its scrapped.
But I will keep an eye on the oil and if it darkens or I get mayonnaise I will get it changed before the 2 year intent.
