Looks like the usual Germanic good taste has gone out of the window. And I bet it will cost a fortune to have all the dent's removed, as he said it's up there with the Transit, so why not just buy a Tornaeo? And get more seats.

Hi there,

I recently purchased a used Yaris which looked good on paper. It’s been purchased from a local garage with assurances that this is such a good car. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks on, someone looked at the car for me and noticed the back bumper has been resprayed and its clips are visible, as the whole bumper has not been fitted on properly. It looks like someone did a rather poor job on it, possibly post an accident, although nothing was recorded on hpi.
Although the garage has mot’ed the car, the break pads are rusty, not to mention the drums at the back.
The 3 months warranty does not include the issues I’m mentioning here but I’m feeling p***ed off as I have noticed how badly the bumper was re-done and I’m just wondering if this is something worth mentioning to the garage at all, as I’m not happy.

Thanks in advance,

I would have hated to have paid 5 grand and have corroded body work.

You are not going to end up with corroded bodywork through a badly painted 'bumper'. As i said earlier, this is just a plastic cover, so while it may look unsightly to you now, it isn't going to rust.

My car is fairly old. I clean the glass in and out. There is always a grey haze, which I can't get rid of. I don't know if other people have the same problem or how they clean their glass.

I have tried Windowlene, Mr Muscle, TutleWax glass cleaner (budget shop), Astonish anti-fog glass cleaner (better product).... ... Read more

I find a film acculmulates on the inside of windscreen and rear window ... do wonder whether it is related to air turbulance within the car, had it on lots of different cars over the years (perhaps if I only ever used the aircon and never open the windows & sunroof it would never occur?) it makes visibility a challange when the glass is wet on the outside, running the aircon does help, wiping with hand or any fabric just ends up with smears that reflect the light and worsen the situation

My solution - wet sponge using plain water only then dry using a barely damp wash leather ......

I am wondering which car manufacturer is the best at this time and moment?

I guess I am thinking about both engineering of their cars but also driver enjoyment. Companies do go up and down. I am wondering who is on the up. ... Read more

Elton John and the rest of the rich with more money than sense lending out their private Jets and yacht to their friends are a big help. I expect they are all consuming no end of high end steaks as they aimlessly cross the plant. Then at the end of the day they have so much money that they generously offset a few carbon credits and everything is hunky dory. What a joke!

A great rebuttal argument to Sir Elton of John in today's Telegraph (sorry, behind the paywall) by Madeline Grant....

Thanks again for all the helpful tips. Our VW Polo was fine and averaged 47 mpg which I thought was pretty good for a petrol and considering the terrain, it is indeed a hilly volcanic island. Car returned with no problems.

The main roads and motorways are very good with a 120kph limit on a lot of it, so around 75 mph similar roads in UK might be 50 mph zones due to junctions being close together but it felt fine to me. ...

Another IT question for some of our more expert members. SWMBO has decided she needs better access to the internet. One for TV and another for her laptop. The BT router is situated fairly centrally but does struggle to reach some rooms which have solid brick walls and a staircase in the way. I heard wifi extenders were the way to go. Apparently I can connect one to the main router via an ethernet cable and then plug it into the electric mains socket and it will transmit through the power cables to be picked up by another extender where you need access. So far so good. Got the idea and have set up many a router and laptop, printer etc. However I need to ensure that I buy the right equipment. I think I will need three extenders, one as a master and the other two to access the internet via the mains sockets where we choose.. Do I buy three units and hope they synchronise or do they come in threes ready to go?? Can I add to them later if needs be? If anyone has done this before and has any useful comments on which type to buy and has to set up I would be grateful. Incidentally, I will connect the TV and her laptop to the extenders via an ethernet cable so they will be effectively hard wired. The wifi access is for phones and printers etc.

Tired of hearing of the "corrupt" EU commission I went looking at why the R124a was forbidden. It seems that it is an HCFC (that thing that is still bad for ozone and global warming) and was part of the Montreal protocol signed to protect the ozone layer. Read more

In response to "thisisme", EC imposed GDPR had the unintentional consequence of preventing used car buyers checking on the cars by contacting or even knowing who the previous keepers were; EC imposed Directives freeing access to vehicle information inside a car's EVU had the unintentional consequence of a huge spate of car thefts because security information was no longer secure, and the EC Directive forcing manufacturers to use R1234YF instead of R134a refrigerant for car a/c systems had the unintentional consequence of a spate of leakages and a quadrupling of the price of a/c refrigerant that is in near monopoly supply. Any small reduction in HCFCs released by the new gas was wiped out be the increase in HCFCs released.

The advice about "Green Cards" is wrong. Check your policy wording. Most UK policies give automatic free comprehensive cover within the EU for up to a specified time like 60 or 90 days per policy year. This will be different of course once we leave the EU. Read more

Reference the Audi Q5 without folding mirrors. Try autologics.co.uk based in Knutsford. I live in South Wales and Simon retro fitted a reversing camera to my Mercedes SL400 and no-one would ever know it was not factory fitted. A perfect job and my local dealer was so amazed the salesman is going to recommend them as the dealers do not fo those retro jobs. Autologics concentptrste on Mercedes, BMW and Audi makes and retro fit a wide range of items include mirrors. They travel all over the country to you. Mine took Simon l ss than two hours to fit. A “proper job”.
