Very disappointed that the pivot bracket/spigot (right) to the parcel shelf has broken, car has bearly done 3000 miles. Inspecting the area feel this is a manufactuers fault. This bracket in an integral part of the interior right panel, so not a simple replace bracket! Have had inspected by dealers who feel this is fair wear or over enthusiasic error by the operator, i have never known this bracket to fail in any previous car over the last 40 years. Do you feel i would have a good case if i approached Mazda UK direct? Read more

This is already in the Technical section, so if you would like to comment please post there. Thers's no point in having two threads on the same subject.

I've noticed that a lot of modern performance cars sound really rough/noisey. What's the reason for this, has the law or technology changed recently to allow this. eg. BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Lambourgini, Ford ST.

I would never buy one of these vechiles simply because the noise is so awful. I would need to always drive gently around town and would never enjoy using the power. I'd need to drive it gently for it to be bareable.... Read more

I find the sound of 4cyl diesels particularly offensive.

There was a refuse truck around here that had a particularly distinctive 'rasp'. I quite liked it....

CAT S - anything - on a modern car, no thanks. You'll always struggle to sell it as well in the future.

For a bit more you can get a brand new one:-...

Thanks for all the replies and advice.
Having approached Mazda UK by phone and email , they responded by the end of the working day positively accepting a warranty claim, shame the Dealership could not be bothered to do the legwork on my behalf. Mores the pity will have to return to this dealership to have the work carried out as its the nearest.

Apologies to anyone who salivated at the v6 in the title! We had a v6 box installed last October, replacing a TiVo box. The difference is like night and day, it’s faster, more capable and has vast storage capacity for recorded items. However, the thing packed up in July and a new one was installed. 2 days ago the replacement packed up too, so we have the so-called engineer coming out tomorrow and no doubt the solution will be a further replacement. That’s 2 units failed in 10 months.

I’m wondering if this is just bad luck or if other VM customers have had similar experience. It is not unknown for new whizzy technology to be rushed out before it has been properly tested. Read more

Bad luck, although depending on what exactly has happened could be a problem with your power supply.

Was it the box that failed or the hub?...

Hi. I have a '97 Ford Escort 1.6 16v. When stuck in traffic for a while, the engine temperature can quickly whizz around to the red. No coolant issues with the car, and the fan does kick in. It just doesn't seem to take much time for the engine to get too warm. I'm happy putting on the heating to cool the engine down again, but I understand that this cannot be a long term solution. Any suggestions? Could it be that I need to replace a heating valve? Thanks. Read more

If it was the water pump impeller then the car heater wouldn't get enough flow to cool the engine.

Total impeller failure (if every single blade was U/S) yes, but it would if only partial failure. ...

The noisy unforgiving ride of my CX-3 spoils what is otherwise a good car.
The much needed improvements in sound insulation and suspension will not persuade me to update to the facelifted version, however, as I will not buy a car with an electronic parking brake.
Instead I will be fitting Michelin Cross Climate tyres to my CX-3 and looking into having soundproofing professionally installed. Expensive, but thousands less than the cost of updating. Read more

Try before you buy. My CX-3 is on 16" wheels, still with the original Bridgestone Turanza tyres which have done 10,500 miles. They are the hardest noisiest tyres I have ever experienced in over 50 years driving. I cannot wait to wear them out.
