Sorry, can't help with this as I have never done it on this model.

Having established what this part is (see post https://www.x-trail-uk.co.uk/viewtopic. ... 85&t=76317 )
I now think I understand it's function.
(1) The valve closes to create back pressure to allow low pressure EGR to aid reduction in NOx
(2) When valve opens after low pressure EGR it creates a strong pressure wave to expel gasses through exhaust system creating a scavenging effect
to help move carbon particle through exhaust system.
(3) Because of the back pressure in exhaust it also helps to increase temperature within exhaust system to increase temperature within catalytic converter and DPF.
(4) Any fault/failure with the Exhaust electric throttle control actuator could have a detrimental effect on other parts of the exhaust/EGR systems.

Can anyone confirm if my basic understanding is correct. Read more

The problem with creating a replica is that by the time you have finished it can easily cost as much as the real thing, and because you are now driving a modified car the insurance will be hefty as well. When you come to sell most people would also prefer a cooking focus to be standard instead of modified. It is your car and money though... If it is an older Focus such as Mk2/2.5 I would be more concerned about rustproofing it, ours is falling apart at the seams- Literally.

Hi.
If the handbrake light is out are the parking brakes supposed to be engaged in any way, even if the handbrake lever is not fully down?
Just that a firm I’m working for has found the pads have overheated on the rear wheel and are trying to make me pick up cost. Read more

Not your fault in any way!

So on a last minute impulse I have just booked a ferry trip to France in my 2002 Lexus LS 4.3 litre an old beast which hasn’t been in use for a while now .
Now I have just realised that there may be some additional issues with driving a large engine car.
Apart from getting the warning triangle, breathalysers, spare bulbs and high visibility jacket...
Would there be anything else that is required?
Or any precautions?
Or any areas to avoid?

Running through a last minute checklist as below
MOT- Yes
Recent service -Yes
Insurance-Yes
Breakdown cover-Yes
Lights -working

Any areas I should avoid.

The old gal does cough and splutter occasionally(at times a high pitched whine when started, but I switch if off and then restart, for some reason the whine disappears ) but I’m hoping to get back without being stuck on a French road with an unsympathetic French plod muttering at me in a language I can’t understand.

Shame it’s only likely to be available with VW’s horrible, unreliable, poorly designed dsg gearbox, and I think it still has a cam belt not a chain,(although chains/tensioners are not failproof, think bmw!) and don’t get me started on dpf’s, egr’s, longlife (what a misnomer) servicing etc etc.
Most people probably won’t care, with pcp’s,warranty etc,but further down the line when they’re 3/4/5 years old the same thing will apply to them as most other VW group cars (Audi/Seat/VW) - big bills and unreasonable arrogant dealers.
£40k plus?? I suppose VW have to finance dieselgate somehow.
