Hi, my elderly mum's elderly Mk4 Fiesta (OK technically it's a Mazda 121 but same as Mk4 Fiesta) has just passed its MoT so it lives for another year. The temperature gauge is not working and stays on the minimum.
I've replaved the temperature sender unit that screws into the thermostat housing (oval shaped grey 2 pin electrical plug). There doesn't appear to be any other water temperature sensor. The cooling system appears to work OK and the radiator cooling fan cuts in and out normally (comes on after a couple of seconds if the sender unit is unplugged).... Read more

They threatened to - the Irish PM said if we had a 'hard border' with the republic, no planes would be able to go over his country from the UK. They may be empty threats to scare us, but they were threats none the less. Just because you only read the Guardian/'indie'/i/ etc doesn't mean they didn't happen.
You said EU plans - not Irish threats. The Irish PM is not the EU and they have to abide what is decided by the EU. At the end of the day the EU will want some kind of deal in place as much as the UK needs something in place beofore Brexit....

I wonder if they are mates with/related to very_45200?...
Some of these cars look very nice. www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-6056497/Ind...l If they were allowed to be sold in the UK I think that it would seriously shake up the car market and force the usual manufacturers we buy from to cut prices if they want to keep customers post Brexit. Can you remember when we all laughed at Korean Cars. Ignore the Chinese at your peril. I agree they are not up to standard now and look ugly but there is no doubt they are getting better and in another ten years they will dominate many markets.
When you look at the quantity of improving Engineering graduates coming out of the many Chinese universities you will see a massive improvment in their quality. Airbus trust them to build aeroplanes now (A320 & A330) and you only need to look at some of their military hardware, again it may not look great but it is effective....
Hi
I have the car with a spanner light on the dash, I have had a look under the bonnet and found a pipe that isnt attached to anything it is just below the air filter box the only place i can see it may fit is a bit on the bottom front of the air filter box but it doesnt seem to want to bend that way . Anyone any ideas? Are they related? Many thanks Read more
It was a small black rubber one i have since found the hole for it on the side of the air box and wedged it back in. Unfortunately didnt solve the light. Have had a check around the hoses and cant see any holes so maybe need to clean the boost sensor
Looking for some help please. The cigarette lighter blew on our car, it went to a garage for Mot and we asked them to change a fuse. When we had the car back the passenger window will not work and neither does the central locking (battery has been changed), any ideas what it could possibly be please? It’s a bmw 320d tourer 2007 Read more
If these items were working prior to the fuse change ,then I suspect another fuse(s) has been dislidged or located incorrectly. Access to the fuse box on these is very difficult and replacing a fuse very tricky.
Can anyone identify the solenoid circled in image and what its function is?

Hi, I am trying to help a friend out, he is 84 years old and he is looking for a Sparewheel plus a sparewheel carrier for his ford Tourneo Connect year 2014 onwards, We have looked for a carrier for a tourneo plus for any videos on youtube showing how to fix them to the car, I am not sure and i maybe someone might have the answer, Is the carrier for the tourneo compatable with any other fords? Its possible that the same carrier is used on the transit connect and possible the galaxy. Any help would be great, My friend is going up to scotland in September and he does not want to go with just a repair kit that was supplied

I had Vauxhalls and Fiats in my early motoring days and found them very prone to rust. If you live in a dry climate then the problem isn't too bad but our weather is harsh on cars. For the last few years I've had Volvos and Mercedes. My Volvos have had no rot at all, 240, 740, 340, V70. The Mercedes c220 x2, CLK, SLK have been mostly ok apart from one c class which got tatty round the edges but to be fair Mercedes sorted it. Point is, is it better to buy from a Manufacturer based in a harsh climate, Sweden for example as they are more likely to withstand our climate? Just read the post on KIA's underbody rusting. My 1995 Primera suffered rusting at the ends of the sills at 10 years old.
I had an XF and though the outer body panels were fine, the suspension cross members and suchlike underneath were healthly rusting away. I guess it would be another few years before whoever owns it finds the problem....
HJ used to have a list of cars with torque converter automatic geaboxes.
I can't find it! Anyone know where it is?... Read more
I can vouch for the Mazda TC box - I've test driven it in a 3 and a CX-3 and they are lovely and smooth; just a shame the cars don't have a bit more power, as if they did, they'd be brilliant.
The weird thing about Volvos is that, at least until recently, some had TC boxes and some Powershift dual clutch units - a bit like their odd V40 petrol engine lineup, consisting of 2.0 units, all apparently turbocharged but some only 122PS (I can't believe that is though) and others 152 and 180PS. By all accounts, many main dealers and sometimes people working at Volvo UK didn't know which models had which engines and auto boxes....
