Hi I have a 2013 laureate and have starting having an issue with my alarm.
When setting the alarm I sometimes get one audible beep and sometimes not. (More often than not).
After a short time the alarm will go off and when I reset I get four beeps.
Originally I thought the one beep on setting was linked to a problem and the subsequent sounding of alarm but on testing I locked the car with no beep (I consider this step normal) but then the alarm did go off.
I've also set the alarm and had one beep and then the alarm NOT go off.
I've checked the bonnet switch looked okay. I can't see a boot switch sonot sure about that.
I've checked the door switches and all seem okay except for one can be rotated whereas the others are fixed.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? I'm pretty handy with a multi meter etc but hoped for abit of direction before I start looking at switches.
Thanks. Read more
With so many Pre Reg Cars around at the moment because of the new WLTP does anyone think that the term "Pre Reg" Is a misleading description? The car is actually second hand as it has been owned by someone else (the car dealership) It can't be described as used because it hasn't been driven on a public road (usually) but they are definitely second hand and should be advertised as so. Forgive me, it has been quite some time since my last posting... hope everyone is doing well
I’ve a Citroen c5 tourer, 2010 with the auto HDi 163 engine.
When I pulled up outside my house the other night, noticed that the air con had cut out, and got an error saying battery low or electrical system fault (or words to that effect). Assumed the alternator was shot.
Drove it to work and same problem, error after a couple of miles and battery light in display. Charged it up yesterday and drove it again today, with the intention of taking to a garage next week. When I turned the power steering the fan slowed down so assumed the battery was doing all the work.
Parked the car up, turned off the engine (everything working as you’d expect). Popped the bonnet to connect to the battery charger and noticed the aux belt had snapped.
Worth noting at this point that I know pretty much nothing about mechanics, so slightly freaked out at the belt and lifted it off. Took me a while to convince myself it isn’t the cam belt (it’s got grooves round it, not teeth) and is to the left hand side of the engine as I look at it from the front.
I have a garage about 300m away and they will have a look next week, but I daren't start the engine. I don’t need to use the car as I also have an Mx5, so not in a mad rush to get sorted.
My assumption is that the symptoms are consistent with a snapped aux/belt, and I’ve been very lucky that it hasn’t fouled up and taken the main cam belt out (like my Volvo s80 d5 did-horror show that)
Cam belt changed a couple of years back at a Citroen specialist and serviced properly as you’d expect.
Would appreciate any reassurances/advice from the assembled experts here!
Thanks

Thanks All - my mechanic has been away for a while so it took a while to get it fixed. Belt replaced and it seems to enjoy running fine now.
Thanks for the advice

My 2010 Hyundai i30 1.6 diesel auto box recently started acting up after 84,000 miles. It now needs a new/reconditioned replacement. Searching aroiund these appear to be like hen's teeth. The 'best' quote I have is £1200 for the box alone. There is one on eBay for £450 but it is for a 2016 i30.
Any recommended places to look for a box at a more reasonable price?... Read more
Sorry to hear. If it is any comfort you have done well to get 84,000 - mine failed at 18 months & 18,000 so fortunately was warranty. At the time (having looked at Australian forums I think I recall) I suspected the issue was some control module but HUK replaced the lot. I presume you have researched Hyundai owner forums?
Recommend that you find either an auto gearbox specialist or another car - good luck!
Hi All,
I have just spoken to LV about the need to GAP insurance, and they informed me that they cover the full cost of the original cost of the car for year 1.. does anyone know if this is the case, I have had a look at their policy.. but not sure.. and thus assume I get the GAP insurance now, and delay by 12 months ??

NFU insurance (check if its still the case or what cover applies to PCP type deals) offer full replace with another identical new vehicle if the car is written off in the first two years.
More expensive insurer than most, but with first class service when you need them (i know from when i was a customer, but now with older cars they are just too expensive for us), a possible alternative for new car buyers though.
I’ve got an automatic 2004 Ford Fiesta... been working perfectly until taking it out one day and I got down the road and it was stuck in gear 1, I couldn’t use semi-automatic to get it up a gear, and it wasn’t changing on it’s own. A little cog appears on the dash. If I want to reverse, i have to turn the car off and then on again. The car changes gears in semi automatic when stationary after first turning it on, but as soon as I pull away the cog appears and then it’s stuck in gear 1. What could this be? I’m stuck and about to scrap an otherwise faultless car with only 50k miles! Any help appreciated Read more
Sadly, it sounds like you bought the 'wrong' Fiesta auto. At that age you had the 'durashift' as described above, available on the 1.4, whereas the 1.6 had a torque converter auto and is much more durable, if thirstier. Very doubtful that it would be worth fixing if you are planning to use a garage. But if you are handy with the spanners, or have a friend who is, then you might want to check out this link which i found searching durashift problems,
- Lacklustre handling
- Low on quality
- Questionable safety record
- Not that I like all of the "new" MGs, but 0 engine problems in the updated 1.8 k series, yes 0... 0 problems in the 1.5 4 cyl and the 1.5 turbo 4 cyl...
- That does not speak of low quality. They are selling millions of these cars in the far east.
- Lacklustre handling.. i have had a couple of days driving two different zs and the handling is fine if you don't need a sports car. For heavens sake it's not a Po-face jag (sorry mean f pace)
- Questionable safety record.. what is the reviewer on? they want 5***** from a £12k car. I want something without all the braking assistance, lane departure etc, as less to go wrong.
Cons
Secondly, MG is a sporty brand, there is no getting away from that. SAIC resurrected the brand knowing this, so they really should be making sure the cars handle as such. If they want to have a softer and less sporty handling car then they should bring back the Austin name and market it under that.

Just bought this lovely car...but it whiffs a bit of previous owners dog. I see that the front seats have removeable covers...has anyone ever done this, washed them and got them back on again ok? Failing that, any tips for getting rid of doggy smell...currently using Febreeze which seems to do the trick.
thanks in advance... Read more
Buy an A/C cleaner and use that. It helps to clean the system.
Yes you will have to clean all the surfaces in the car to get rig of the doggy smell. Carpets, trim roof lining etc....
A lamppost has been left in the middle of a new school access road, they have even painted markings beside it.

Welcome to the world of mediocrity.
Every part of the job contracted-out to private companies. The marking company will get paid as they have finished what they were contraced to do. Then get paid again when the remedial work has been done....

I have owned several Volvos, including a V40, and whilst they are fantastic cars they are not the biggest in any respect. The cabin is 'snug' whilst rear seat and headroom isn't brilliant. Couple that with a tiny boot (unless you fold the seats) and I found it a real struggle space wise.
I have never owned a Leon but they seem to be well regarded but I'd add my vote to the Honda Civic that someone else has mentioned if you can find a nice one. They are surprisingly roomy, if not to everyone's taste aesthetically, plus you are buying one of the most reliable brands on the road....
That's a very good deal you got.
