Why would a car need pot-hole detection? Surely a violent jolt in the suspension is adequate indication that you've found a pot-hole. Read more

Indeed, and I'm sceptical about the way in which IQ is measured.

Out of curiosity, in my youth many years ago I did the Mensa test and got in: but I didn't kid myself that I was super-intelligent - just good at doing that particular type of test. I think I showed a more useful type of intelligence by resigning when they doubled the subscription.

Re -Slippery slope, it would be helpful to know how steep the slope was that caused the stalling, even living in a 'flat' county, a property could easily have a steep slope to a garageor parking?

Re - Led into temptation, to be fair an 18 month old Fiesta is more than "just a bit smarter than a Fiesta", well certainly than a 6 year old one.

This means unless you are a high earner and can afford a new vehicle or conversely you happen to have a vehicle given you on the mobility scheme you will not be able to afford to shop or work or even visit in these towns. Result the complete failure of these towns commercially, financially and in pretty well all meaningful ways. They will become ghettos to those who do not work and therefore do not need to move around however there will be no shops for them to get supplies and it is unlikely that they will have the ability to shop online even supposing delivery firms are willing to pay the congestion charge. Public transport is often not accessible for a variety of reasons. Read more

Just stay away from these places if they don't want drivers visiting there town then don't go .Anything you need can be delivered to your door from Amazon or Ebay .Im not about to spend money on a new car so I can visit there stupid town sod them .

Apologies in advance, as this may be convoluted....

It's mot time and the car needed new ball-joints on both sides. Bought them and fitted them today...which went fine, only to find that when the car was lowered from the jack, the wheels were well out of alignment (pointing opposite ways).... Read more

Quick update to the essay, in case anyone was interested!

A bit of internet sleuthing discovered the problem. The TRW control arms purchased a few years ago are listed as the correct part for both Avensis and Auris models. Only, the ball-joints attached appear to be for the Auris. Turns out I've been driving around for two years with slightly out-of-spec ball-joints! :\...

The A/C in my VW Caddy van does not seem to have much effect and i was wondering if it is likely to be anything other than simply needing to be re-gassed?. I don't mind paying for this, and as far as i am aware it is not that expensive, but before i do this i just wondered if there were any other, less obvious, potential causes?.

Thanks. Read more

Check your hoses first. You don't want to put the new gas in and have the increased pressure blow a dodgy hose.

I've recently been caught at 51 in a 30, sent all paperwork off today, been told it will be going to court. I've spoken to CAB who weren't very helpful at all. I know I'm looking at a big fine and 6 points possibly even a ban. What do I do from here? I've had my license 9 years and this is my first ticket. Read more

Fact is that getting nabbed at 51mph means your speedo was probably showing at least 55mph which in a 30mph limit is seriously bad driving.

My nephew crashed badly and organized for the vehicle to be towed to a garage. The insurance company inspected the car and decided that they won't pay out (one worn tyre). The insurance then took the car away to their depot but without notifying or asking for permission to do this. Are they allowed to do that or is that theft? Read more

If they are refusing to pay out due to an unroadworthy tyre them I'm sure they'll return the vehicle back to the owner. Have you actually tried asking them to do this?
