My SLK 2012 roof in hot sunshine risies slightly at the nearside rear then when it cools returns to shape. Mercedes say it needs a whole new roof assembly. Any ideas, they've never seen this before and neither has the local Mercedes indie, he reckons it could more minor than a full roof. Read more
I have a 2018 VW Polo which I've had for 3 months. After a couple of weeks the front wipers failed in torrential rain. A few minutes before I was on the M3 and a failure would probably have led to a major car crash as the failure meant zero forward and sideways visibility. Two days ago the car refused to let me in. Fortunately I was a mile from home, so went to fetch the spare key, which worked. I swapped the battery, no joy. On two occasions the car applied emergency braking for no apparent reason, both times on a bend. It was frightening. On 3 or 4 occasions the radio has refused to turn off when the car was turned off and no key in the ignition. I had to keep the on off button pressed in until it rebooted. CarPlay is marvelous, but on a couple of occasions it has locked up, and I had to reboot my iPhone. I don't know if that was the iPhone at fault. It is a beautiful car, but the electrics are pants.
I've also had a flat tyre, after hitting a pot hole. But I can't blame VW for that. The tyre deflation warning went off almost immediately, so full marks on that score. ... Read more
It was the actual reliability rather than satisfaction. Yes you’re right about the satisfaction index, which is why many premium brands often do not excel. If you buy a Mercedes you expect perfection. My local VW dealers are pretty damned good. It’s one more reason to like VW. However, I am getting to know them better than expected.
I think that's part of the problem as regards 'brand reliability' - a car (not yours - I've come across reports of this for other makes, including my own) that (say) isn't serviced correctly, i.e. shoddy workmanship or items not inspected/changed out as required can often fail as a result - nothing to do with the quality of its manufacture, but of the maintenance. There is something to be said for finding a really good dealership, particularly as regards the service/parts dept.
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had any info or experience with the following.
My Lexus IS 300h is having some issues with the air on. It will not get cold. I have had it re gassed, and nothing happened. Took it to Lexus and they said it could with be a sensor or a valve in the aircon unit. Sensor could cost £300 ish but if it’s the valves they will have to take the engine out and could cost £1000s.
Has anyone has the same problem or know anywhere that might be able to look at it that doesn’t charge the Lexus garage premiums in Croydon / south London area?
Thanks. Read more
Hi there can I what the outcome was? I just found your thread via Google and I have the exact same problem, been told today I may need a new aircon pump 3k I nearly passed out. I've booked mine in to find out what the exact issue is, but would like to know how you got along? Many thanks gemma.
My MR2 is due its first MOT under my ownership, I know there are no issues apart for a blown fog light bulb.
Went to replace the bulb today but the bulb is OK. The fog light has only two wires running to it, a pernament live and a earth (at leat that is what the colour suggests).... Read more
You need to bit a little careful here.On many Jap cars ,thre lighting circuits are switched on the negative earth return circuit. So there will be power to the fog lamp with the headlights on,and the fog switch will earth the lamp.Perhaps this circuit back to the switch is open.
I've been considering ending my current PCP early and have been looking at the Skoda Kodiaq as a possible replacement. I got a very attractive price of £19,000 for a 1.4TSi SE, some £5k off list, made up of a finance contribution, an extra £1k off promotion and a bit off here and there.
Anyhow, today I speak to the dealer. Turns out they have no stock 1.4TSi models and Skoda are no longer making them in order to move to the 1.5TSi. They don't have pricing for them yet so can't proceed. By the time they do have pricing, the finance deal and extra promotion will have ended. ... Read more
In a post above I said
Another thing, turbo lag. The 1.4 TSi 140 PS Leon we had seemed to have none but the 1.4 TSi 150 PS in the Superb originally did but we never spotted it on the test drive in a 10,000 mile example. Move on just over a year and our Superb seems to have lost the turbo lag totally....
Hi I have just been comparing fuel costs using this...www.torquecars.com/tools/annual-fuel-cost-from-mpg...p. and am just weighing up if running our second more economical car is worth hanging on to.....Our people/stuff shifter averages 30mpg...our little run around is averaging 40 mpg..... we could of course try and find a more economical car to replace the two but then when you factor in costs is it really worth spending thousands to save few hundred £’s a year....... Nobody is saying that you can run 2 cheap cars for less than one, but that is not what you said in your earlier post.
'Regardless of mpg, running two cars is never cheaper than running one."...
I'm intending to upgrade to a 2010 Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 GS and I found what appears to an ideal car, 1 owner from new, full supplying dealer Land Rover service history and all MoTs were undertaken at the same LR dealer. However I note the following advisories on the last MoT:
slight play front lower arm bushes
slight play center propshaft bush
slight transmission oil leak
Is the slight transmission oil leak anything to be seriously concerned about or is it just a main dealer being a bit over the top on advisories? To give an example, I took my old Land Rover into the main dealer for servicing and they often advised work which wasn't ever mentioned on MoT advisories as I took it to a trusted independent for MoTs that I've been using for 30 years.
Is it relatively easy for me to check if the leak is severe when inspecting the car and am I right in thinking that a transmission oil change could potentially cure the leak? How much would a transmission oil change be and in the worst case scenario, what's the likely cost of resolving a serious transmission oil leak?
Many thanks in advance for your help. Read more
Even if an inspection confirmed that the leak was 'slight', it could, and probably will, get worse.
An ageing diesel Discovery has got to be one of the riskiest used car purchases anyone could make.
Please can anyone throw any light on correctly identifying/locating an engne type build code. I need to replace some parts on an ageing Fiesta, I have noticed on motor factors website that for certain components they refer to engine codes eg for pollen filters DHA, DHB, DHC, DHD, DHE, DHF, DHG
I have located a 30mm white square sticker on the plastic cambelt cover with two large capital letters BA these two letters are also present within the VIN plate number... Read more
thank you for the suggestion, I will look at that sensor to see the type/fitting.
I am still interested in how to identify the engine code according to a U tube video I have seen it should be engraved on the engine block adjacent to the starter motor. on sites like euro c/parts there are often more then one fitting type for the same model. donated by manufacturing dates or engine type codes.
My front wipers still work but i've noticed that they no longer sweep as wide as they did. It's about 1.5 inches short on either side, the height looks ok. I've looked at the resting marks on screen and they are now sitting above both lines by about an inch. None of the electrics seem faulty. Any thoughts please Read more
It could be that you have a worn bush/bearing on the linkage that connects the motor to the wiper arm. If it's accessible, it should be fairly easy to feel for any excess movement.
