Morning all
Have a phantom passenger seatbelt warning light issue with a Mini Paceman. Advised it began following a valet, presumably from the usual 'on street' type outift. I haven't looked yet, but I assume they've knocked a plug under the seat, anybody had cause to look under there and reconnect one? I'm hoping it'll be a simple 'plug it back in' affair! Read more
Hi, I'm after some advice. I have a Vauxhall insignia on a 4 year lease contract. The 3 year vauxhall warranty expired last July. We have always serviced the car in accordance with the manufactures guidelines. Last week the engine started really badly smoking, and over heating so we took it into the garage, and have been told that the head gasket has completely blown and it will need a new engine, costing approx £5K!!! I have nearly 2 years left on the lease (with moto novo)... I've no idea what I should do... before I call them, does anyone have any advice please? Read more
“It has been an interesting read. I only wish car mechanic magazine was more honest about cars to avoid.” A great magazine that I buy every month. They’re always clear that their project cars are bought with a view that they want to have issues to sort. There wouldn’t be much to write about if they bought a low mileage petrol Honda Accord but the BMW, Renault and Vauxhall (Fiat) diesels they typically buy always give them plenty to do.
Fair point.
My only gripe is they have a policy to never call any car out as a mechanical pig for the reason you stated; although its easy enough to work out which cars/engines are best avoided....

Thanks for clearing that up!
RE: 'Reduced circumstance' and 'Gearsick'
I'm surprised, given he likes and recommends it, that HJ didn't recommend the Mazda CX-3 2.0 petrol SE-L Nav Auto for these people - a decent drive, ride comfort is fine on the 205/60 R16 tyres and the seating position is raised compared to the 2 and 3 - essentially a small CX-5 with a very nice auto box for the petrol engine.... Oh, dear. You do seem to have it in for the DQ200 box! My son has a Leon with this and it seems to work perfectly.
I cannot understand why you say sitting in traffic with with a foot on the brake wears out the clutch.
I have driven the car and you come to to a halt and the engine stops. Take your foot off the brake and the engine starts and the revs rise and the clutch engages.
How can it wear if the engine is not running. Even when cold you can feel the clutch engages as you debrake.
PS I did own a Golf GT 2013 model (manual) and the clutch/DMF began to fail at 37,000 miles so maybe there is a general clutch problem with VAG motors?
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has experience of doing high mileage in a Ford fitted with one of these engines?
Are they robust and good for circa 200k with regular maintenance?
Fitted to various Ford Focus and Kuga cars.
Thanks.

Thanks for the responses so far.
I forgot about the DMF. I'm surprised that there hasn't been some sort of class action against Ford if it's such a known/recurring problem.
I do 16,000 miles a year, so you can say I'm on the cusp of diesel ownership, although my 26 mile commute is A roads and country lanes which points towards petrol.
Wondering if anyone can help..my engine seems to be vibrating a lot at idle and whilst driving. I have replaced all 3 mounts and it's still the same 130k on the clock. I have however noticed that there seems to be oil in and around the electrical connections for the injectors I'm not getting any warning lights on the dash so I'm a bit baffled..when it comes to cars I'm ok with suspension, brakes and general wear and tear but have limited knowledge when it comes to engines. The car just seems very rough and lumpy..I have checked all air hoses and connections and all seems fine the car has also recently been serviced and gear oil changed. Both near and off side driveshafts have also been done..The engine seems lumpy and just not running as smooth as I think it should be..Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Read more
your going to need diagnostics,
And I'd be looking at injector correction values....
I see today there are another four requests for Ford radio codes; searching the Technical forum shows hundreds of similar pleas for help.
Strangely, no requests for radio codes for other makes, why is this such a frequent issue with Fords? Read more
I think you've missed my point, which was that, because there are already so many Ford codes requests and answers on HJ, Google picks these up and this encourages fresh requests for Ford codes here. That's what I meant by "self-perpetuating". If you Google codes for other makes, HJ doesn't appear.
I agree we don't have requests for makes other than Ford, but that's not the point.

First, STOP.
Yes, it's most likely a knocked connector. However, if you happened to reconnect with the battery live, you could set off the airbag....
