Bought a 316 compact a few years ago. Kept it for 6 months and couldn't get rid quick enough. Horrible driving position, cramped, felt like sitting inside a coffin. And reliable? No way.

Switched to Honda and never regretted it....

Hi all, I have been following the forum via the app for a while and have learned a lot from you guys, so thanks to all for the useful info. Any detectives out there feel like helping me out on this one I'd be very grateful.

My first mistake was buying this Mondeo in the first place - I think old rep car from Scotland (bad move), had an issue with the timing belt before I bought it which was replaced because it had been fitted incorrectly before. (second bad move). Dealer mentioned about an overheating issue which they had 'fixed' by changing the thermostat. So last summer it overheated on the M25 (almost no coolant) - I should have taken it straight back to the dealer (another bad move) but took it to my local garage instead. They changed the fan which wasn't working. Overheated again about a week later - this time found the coolant leaking out the thermostat housing. Chicken and egg situation whether previous overheating caused this or not. Ever since the coolant has been disappearing slowly and I have been topping it up every couple of weeks. It's needed less over the winter but now it's warming up I have had it happen again on a long journey (level checked just before leaving, was fine).... Read more

Water pumps are a fairly common problem on the 1.8 tdci, you need to check if the water is circulating when it’s running. The good news is, that as the pump is driven by the auxiliary belt, and not the timing belt. They are easy enough to replace, and not very expensive but this means they’re not typically changed along with the timing belt at a particular set mileage.

I've changed the water pump and cam belt on my Fiesta 1.25 (2006) but it won't start.

Ill be honest and say that I messed up the synchronisation between the cams and crank whilst the belt was loose.... Read more

Sorted it. The crank was 1 turn out. Got it timed up now and it's running fine.

Spark plugs are terrible, in fact, so bad he had to take a picture and send to his colleague! He reckons they stopped making the ones I have in 2004,

Really? I've recently bought new plugs for a 1934 Austin 7.

I`m surprised no one thought of this in the UK, though not so sure we can afford to or have the roads to do it...

I don't find it exciting. It uses a movable arm in same way an eletric train gets power from overhead wire. Instead of overhead wire, they have laid on road wire.

It needs to be wireless charging. As of now, it is just bigger version of Scalextric car....

Having travelled and hired cars in BC and Alberta, Canada using my standard UK Licence either the paper version or recently the Photo card without any issues.

Last year as read somewhere a Intl Driving Permit would be required. Then after spending some 3 days travelling around to find a Post Office capable of issuing a Permit, despite the Websites say that serveral Post Offices listed can do the Permits 99% can't.... Read more

To those who send Emails reporting spam - thank you for being helpful although there's no need to bother as I look at the forum each day and have a mechanism for getting rid of it so that the same spammer can't come back. It only takes a couple of clicks - less time than reading the Emails. I moderate on my own but it doesn't take much of my time.

Obviously new spammers can come in - they are clearly a sub-species who have no awareness that the spam will achieve nothing. But I can't see that it's anything for anybody to get worked up about. Just ignore it.... Read more
