No incentive to buy a 'nearly new' car.

Crazy to buy new even with a scrappage scheme, you loose whatever you save, and more soon as you drive it home!

Why no BMW'S? I just got £8410 off a new 320d GT with PCP @ 2.9%.Thats £4000 finance contribution and the rest from the dealer and no p/X to confuse the deal. Equivalent Tourings were about £7500 off. Read more

I know the BMW deals knock these out of the water £8-9k PCP discount (BMW+Dealer) advertised without any negotiation plus the £2k diesel allowance if you have an older car

Hello, I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the degree of dificulty removing a MR2 gearbox. I an an experienced engineer and intend to strip and rebuild the gearbox myself if the cost of spares and tooling works out to be cost effective. i would be doing this job in my back yard with only trolly jacks. so, degree of difficulty removing box and ammount of if any special tools? thanks, Mike. The vehicle turned into a nervous wreck following a period of driving in heavy rain i.e. engine warning light on plus stalling, emergency lights on but could’t be turned off, boot lock clicking etc. The RAC diagnosed water ingression from the nearside windscreen area into the nearside air intake and down onto the electronics module mounted under the glove compartment. It appears that rain water is being forced by the nearside wiper down and over the threshold of the nearside air intake which is directly inline with it. (N.B. this is not the same for the offside air intake as it is not directly in line with the offside wiper). The RAC dried the module and sprayed WD40 on it.... Read more

Not something I have seen before. The plastic panels below the windscreen are not designed to be water tight, more to direct the water into the corners of the screen and wing.I think you will need to remove these panels and check the water drain aways into the wheel arch areas.

Picked up plenty of advise in the past off here. Has been much appreciated. Now's time to move on my 5008. Timing chain rattling when cold. So got a 'shortlist' of petrol engined, manual gears of:- kuga 1.5t, focus 1.5t, leon 1.4 150bhp or golf 1.4 122hp. All are 2015/16 plate for a bit of warranty left. All less than 25k miles. Anyone got feedback about the above? Prefer turbo now for relaxed cruising. Or anything i've overlooked.

Hi,

What mpg do you find with the kuga? I have found those 'ecoboost' engines very juicy....

Some farmer friends are facing a huge bill (12k) main dealer price for destroying an engine through lack of oil.
Having no dipstick they relied on the electronic warning system which they say had failed to register low oil level.
The repair involves lifting the body over the engine! Read more

Great, it has an OBC that records everything, but it cant check the oil level itself but requires a human to press a button.

Lets hope the same designers arent involved in the land rover autonomous driving project!!

I recently purchased a new fiesta (not very latest new model ) with an ecoboost petrol 1.0 100 engine.

After returning from a drive in town today I lifted the bonnet and saw that the water in the coolant reservoir was bubbling and the fan was running. After a minute or so the fan stopped and also the bubbling stopped.

Is this normal in a turbo engine. I have never had one before. Read more

Thank you for your reply. I shall follow your advice.

Looking for some advice please. I bought a Corsa C with a 1.2 16v engine with 70,000 miles and FSH.

Shortly after buying it, I discovered that the exhaust followers on cyl 3 and 4 had detatched from their proper position - i.e. the 'cup' was no longer located on the hydraulic lifter. The car was running rough with a lot of top-end noice. I took the cam out, inspected it (it's worn, but not excessively so) and refitted the followers.... Read more

Given my experience with these engine I'd start by doing an oil pressure test on a cold engine.

Squircular steering wheels seem to be getting suprisingly common in new cars. Has anybody tried driving with one of these? Are they as bad as they look?

I'm assuming that it makes it easier to get in/out of the car, but that assumes that the wheel is straight, and it rarely is for me. Read more

Even in cars with wheels intended to be circular, when the wheel is turned quickly it is clear that the boss is not exactly central, but the offset cannot be large enough to be intentional. I think the manufacturing process just isn't that accurate. It's not the same as an LP, for example.
