More accurately, where the metal stem meets the fob is a shallow metal slot and the facing has broken off on one side of the slot. The metal stem just dropped out. .

I still have the broken off piece, can it be simply be superglued back on with the stem in place, without effecting the ignition response signal?... Read more

It has always surprised me how bad the car parks are at dealers. People buy expensive cars and then to take them in for a service/warranty work. They arrive at the dealer and have to park them in the tightest spaces possible and risk getting them damage.

I went to a dealer recently (think it was Ford) and it was very different. As I went in there was a long line of 'Demonstrator' parking spaces, which contained a good variety of vehicles. When I arrived at the front of the showroom they had huge spaces that would easily fit most vehicles. I was very impressed and would really like to buy from a place like this. Why can't more dealers do this? Read more

My local Ford dealer has a rather silly one way system for getting around the car park. Everyone seems to ignore it, and it makes absolutely no sense to have it. Its a huge site, but finding somewhere to park there is like finding a main dealer who gives a decent part ex on a good car. The showroom is jam-packed with staff, but they always seem to have something better to do when you approach them for assistance. On the plus side, there are loads of flags and banners.

In contrast, the indy from whence I bought my B Max has a very small frontage, but somehow seems to be able to shoehorn in any visitors with a minimum of fuss, and the small office/ showroom is tidy and welcoming. Economies of scale have a lot to answer for.

Hi all,

I have a Ford Focus 57 plate, it's 1.6 TDCI with an automatic gear box. a few months ago, the car was cutting out when coming to a stop (giveway, junction etc). The car would start immediately but when putting it into drive and moving away, it would cut out again. After leaving the car for 5 minutes or so, it would be fine and pull away without cutting out. This happened rarely (once every 2 weeks or so) but once it had gotten over the issue it would be fine for a few weeks. You could sense the issue was coming as the car would start to jerk when coming to a stop in the days prior to it cutting out.... Read more

Just wondering if anyone has used Quote me happy for car insurance. They are quite a bit cheaper but you can only contact them by email and they have horrendous reviews on Trust Pilot. Not sure I like the idea of not being able to speak to someone if there is a problem. Read more

Thinking of checking out that multicover thing with Admiral after seeing the adverts. They say that if you have home insurance with them and want car insurance, or vice versa, they'll roll it all up into one package which should be cheaper. We have Admiral home insurance, so halfway there.

If it ain't cheaper, I'll eat my tricornered hat. ...

After my Chevrolet Kalos finally gave up the ghost, I'm trying to secure a used car mainly to runaround, and to get me to and from work. May also use it as a backup family car.

After scouring the internet, and asking for peoples opinions the general concensus was to go for something japanese as they have a reputation for reliable cars with good mpg.... Read more

I bought a Kalos 1.2S on behalf of a good friend new back in 2006 for £5555. I tried to get her into a used Picanto but she wanted new.

I managed to get £1,200 for her tatty Ford Ka with a noisy PAS pump in part ex. She ran it for 8yrs without any major issues, all just normal wear and tear stuff and regularly did long distance visiting family down south where it was surprisingly capable with a decent ride and being fairly tall geared for a superminis it wasn't that noisy. The gearchange was awful though.

I flogged it for her for £1,000 after 8yrs and 77,000 miles to another friend who then ran it for another two years without fault then received £970 back for it when someone ran into her and it was written off. I got her a mint wee Nissan Micra to replace it that she loves but that wee Kalos did very well. Regular servicing was the key.

Good news but will it be enforced? Probably not.

We have a driving school car collect and drop off a student in our street and each time the car stops with two wheels on the pavement.

What sort of example is that to someone learning to drive?

Compared to increasingly bling alternatives which not everyone wants at up to 3 times the price, that looks a rather neat update of the model, and the new colour is very attractive. Read more

I will certainly bear in mind some of the larger n/a petrols, might be worth sacrificing mpg for reliability. Nice little list to go at.

Is there any earthly reason why these gizmos can't be fitted to the rearmost part (and rear side sections) of HGVs? I would propose mandatory fitting, starting with HGVs with LHD cabs as it would save hundreds of near misses and actual crashes.
