Now it's been upgraded how do backroomers feel about the long stretches without a hard shoulder? Imagine a foggy winter morning and the car breaks down, you can only pull in the side, get out asap and seek somewhere safe. Meanwhile your car sits there awaiting the first driver who dosen't see it. Will the AA/Rac etc want to put their patrols in obvious danger? Read more

I believe I might have replied to a similar thread in the past and said that it was this particular stretch that prompted me to take whatever measures I could to stay out of trouble. At the time I was using it reasonably regularly and did encounter a broken down car in a live lane within the roadworks (the roadworks to "upgrade" to Smart Motorway status). Nothing dreadful happened as traffic was moving so slowly - but I envisaged breaking down/getting a puncture in a stretch with no hard shoulder, at night, and having nowhere to go and ordered an additional orange flashing LED magnetic beacon (Britax A100) and even went so far as to order a red revolving magnetic beacon too. I have them handy to access and will take the chance of being told off by the police for using a red one... if it saves me from being rear ended I'll plead my case in court.

In addition there are several bright, reflective jackets, both waterproof and not, and I even made up a brightly coloured and reflective square of material to hang from the rear wiper if time allowed....

I've been asked to replace a broken door window glass. It's got electric windows and I've been told they don't work! I guess the motor will be in the top position, but I'll have to lower it.

Any tips, hints or advice would be welcome. Read more

Lost the fob (transponder) but key stll on bunch. Contacted local dealershipnear to me in Bognor Regis, quoted to replace transponder fob and code to vehicle a staggering total of £466.73 inc VAT (the fob was £412.03), would have been more but luckily stll have the key that fits inside the fob carcass so no cutting required. Anybody else had the same issue and if so what did you do??, any advice most welcome. Thank you.

Sounds cheap to me .A friend lost the only key he had to his Lexus .Main dealer quoted over £2k to fix it. Luckily he managed to find a local auto locksmith that did the job for around £400..Unfortunately this is one of the pleasures of owning a modern car full of electronics.

I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in November 2015 and used a credit card to buy it. The device has now developed a fault (we believe due to a software update) which means the keyboard no longer works.

I have swapped keyboards and reinstalled Windows and tried all the 'fixes' advised by Microsoft to no avail. There are many reports of other people suffering from exactly the same issue - all after a recent Windows update. Microsoft haven't yet publically acknowledged the issue.... Read more

Another good reason not to update the software within warranty period. I have not updated my Windows 7 PCs for years and never had problem :-)...

It may well have been an edited question, but I understand where you're coming from.

Hi all. Please go easy on me I have a long tale and need some advice if possible.

When I was younger I was a serial motoring offender. A stupid boy who drove without insurance, failed to hand in my license and had numerous court dates to which I never turned up. I was a tear away. This all went on till about 10 years ago when I just stopped driving. I was, at the time, probably driving without a license as the courts had probably banned me in my absence.

Time has moved on and I would like to get driving again (legally this time). Clearly I regret acting the way I did as a youngster.

Can anyone advise on what the likely process/repercussions are? As so much time has passed is it purely a case of reapplying for my license or will I need to do a new test? Also will those missed Cory dates, no sending of license to dvla etc have meaning still or is there a time limit where they are wiped out?

Thanks for reading and any advice would be gratefully received.

Glad it worked for you and you're up and running again.

I would have replied before, but have been asleep (after-effects of surgery etc.)

There is a tab at the top with 'pricing'. That will give you an idea.

Sound.s like a good car, but when ever a electric car is profiled it never give's information of distance it can cover with heated seat's on in winter, light's on fully loaded.
Basic worst case senerio in traffic at night freezing cold, 100 mile's to do then there is a 50 mile diversion' whoop's battery going flat where nearest charge point this time of night will I get there!.
Being I am human and did know about diversion and ther was no information available prior trip.
Electric car only good for local run around where you know you can get a charge and not get caught out to much.
I will be happear with electric car's when I can do 200 mile on a charge with a 100 mile reserve, knowing every garage has a charging point.
In town right now electric car's great, but to expensive a payout for most of us.
Information on how expensive a new battery cost's on replacement if car is kept longer than few year's,should battery degrade over time should be an available estimate. Read more

Trying to be environmentally friendly we use electric bikes for short journeys but sometimes need to transport them to other cities when visiting friends or on holidays. Two electric bikes are too heavy for a strap on carrier and we are too old to lift them onto a roof rack. We have to transport them on a tow bar mounted carrier. BUT and it is a big BUT very few (if any) affordable E cars are able to be fitted with a tow bar. So for us electric cars are a no go area for the foreseeable future.
