Hello.

I own a Audi A3 Sportback hybrid . Hope I am posting in the right section.

After realizing that I was having issues with the charger ( error e-140 and 470) as is not connecting to the car. this morning the car will turn on but not move at all in any gear.

So, I turn the car on and the needle goes up and a few seconds later goes down to cero, meaning that is not drive ready. I tried any gear and it does not move at all. tried changing all eterno settings and same thing. engine seems to be on since I have to turn off before I leave the car. I checked everything but can't find anything wrong, not symbol lights are on and parking brake off.

any ideas of what to do? or try?

My guess as of now, is that even thought it says the eterno battery is almost full I am thinking there is a misreading somewhere. So, I thought I will unplug the battery to see if the system resets and it works but I am afraid I will screw something up by doing this.

anyone have any idea of what is going on?

thank you so much. Read more

I wouldn't waste your time with your local independent garage either. I would doubt many if any would have the expertise on hybrids to solve your problem. Contact your nearest main dealer and go from there.

Well I'm 58 next birthday and am thinking of retiring/semi retirng, had enough of the corporate jungle and companies taking the mickey. Anyway, we're not rich but if we're frugal, we can get by & enjoy some time to ourselves. One thing I've always wanted to do is a sort of minimalist touring in Europe, having spent many a great holiday in Spain/France. I've seen many folk over there on campsites with a budget /minimalist van conversion. This really appeals to me, the sort of thing I'm thinking of is a Berlingo/Partner/Kangoo size thing. The VW Transporter seems to be the default choice, nice size but a bit pricy. This project would need to be cheap, that's the whole point. I'm quite handy and could do a basic conversion myself, seen some interesting Berlingo bed/table conversions on line. Don't need a built in cooker or bog, just something that can sleep two and be used as cover in inclement weather, plus lots of load space.

Has anyone dabbled with this and if so, any ideas?. Reliability and simplicity very important, as would be price and running costs. Modern diesel might be out on reliability grounds, not sure. This would be a 3rd car /van, so overall low cost important. Cheers all Read more

If you are considering spending an extended period of time inside the camper van, then better to go for high roof version where you can stand inside. You'd also need a loo and at least a microwave or camper stove or similar + fridge.

Once you've got all that stuff then next question is whether you want a campervan or whether a proper caravan, with all that stuff integrated, would do job better....

Test driven 3008 1.2 petrol - drives well, however the seating for a 6ft 1" man was awful, had a bad back after 30 mins. Sticking with Vitara for now Read more

Just been checking my engine oil level and pondered as to why dipsticks are black ? Almost any other colour would contrast with clear new oil or old murky black oil Read more

Does anyone have any experience of using this ? I have seen it advertised on the ATS site and wondered if it might be benficial for a diesel (dreaded Ford 1.6 PSA) on 80,000 miles or is it a waste of money ? Read more

Thanks everyone.

I could not maintain my cars more diligently. Think I'll just leave well alone - had just wondered about improvement which may make it worthwhile. Car regularly gets a good blast so I do all I can to keep it in top condition.

Warning

Recently a cyclist forced a driver to sweve to avoid hitting him.

The car driver ended up colliding with a parked car. The cyclists looked back and knew he had caused the accident, but did not stop. If a driver did that it would be a Failure to Stop and be fined. Why should the car driver, claim on his insurance?. Cyclists should carry road insurance too. ... Read more

There is a lot of bad driving. I wanted a dashcam, in case of accidents. So it has to be able to read number plates....

that's odd, I have the 0803, been using it for about 3 or 4 years and it's still working, I use a small sim card as don't need much history, less than 1 hour is good enough for me. As I've just purchased a new car i've just moved dashcam to the new car, unfortunately this has an "always on" cigarette lighter socket so am considering whether to hard wire into the fuse box, or possibly upgrade to a twin camera set up, front & rear windows (provided I can find a system I like). Drive 20k miles a year so dashcam gets plenty of usage.

Sorry if this has been covered many times before, did search but came up with nothing. I have been looking at winter tyres but am getting mixed views with my research. So here is what I am hearing from journalists and other "users"

Winter tyres perform better than summer tyres below 7 degrees. Generic statement.
Winter tyres perform better on snow.
Summer tyres out perform winter tyres in the dry for stopping distances at any temperature.
Winter tyres out perform summer tyres in wet cornering situations.
Some reviews say winter tyres are better at wet stopping distances, others say they are worse than summer tyres.

So bearing in mind the lack of snow in the U.K. and the amount of rain we have, I really do wonder if having winter tyres is safer or not. Add in the cost of a second set of wheels and hassle of storage and changing over not to mention the increased wear, are they of any real benefit? Does anyone have any real life experience or thoughts based on facts?

I do live in Yorkshire on a steep hill but now have an awd vehicle. Been stuck twice in last couple of year, once in mud, once in snow but both times only had fwd and summer tyres. (Being able to stop is more of a concern to me than getting stuck)

Any advice is appreciated. If I decide to take the plunge I will be looking the next few weeks before the prices go up.

I don't see the point of winter tyres in the UK, the the last ten years I've been fitting mud and snow all-season tyres to my household's cars, they're fine in the summer and cope in the winer - job done.

The UK winter climate varies significantly from the low altitude south-east to the higher altitude places further north....
