Strange case, it is reported that 'It appears that an unattended Range Rover has rolled off the driveway in Beechwood Drive. The vehicle was left insecure, with the automatic transmission in park with the handbrake fully applied. It gained momentum down the drive where it went across the road and mounted the footpath opposite and hit the wall'... Read more

oldroverboy.

At that age the car would have a manual handbrake. it is entirely possible to leave that vehicle in N not P if it was indeed an auto.

Have seen it before, and i worked for a LR/RR dealer. the other side is that it was common for the position sensor to fail and the car would be locked in P (park) if parked in P position. It was a part i deliberately stocked....

I have just emptied my tank on the car and decided for the first time in my life, I filled her up with the high octane unleaded premium fuel. Only costing me £6 more for a full tank! I was just wondering if all the rumours are true? Better economy? Better performance?

Does anyone know the facts and whether it's best for me to continue using the premium expensive fuel?

Thanks in advance! Read more

A little experament to try if you use supermarket fuel. Remove a couple of spark plugs just to see what the tips look like the older the plugs are the better. Run a full tank of V-Power and have another look at the plugs.

How does that compare with using supermarket unleaded plus extra additive cleaner?

I just paid LV £366 for the renewal on the 2016 Outlander. I could have had it for £300 or so had I knocked off the guaranteed courtesy car and legal cover. The boss's 2014 Roomster renewal has just come from LV at £257 without the guaranteed courtesy car - but she has had a fault claim (Nov 2014) and a non-fault information only accident in the last year (£1,500 claim paid by third party's insurer from whom we claimed direct). Obviously her accidents affect mine slightly too, as we are both insured on both cars.

LV were close to cheapest on a like for like basis anyway, despite a 10% hike - we supposdly get a discount for having more than one policy with them (the house insurance also)....

Hi all, exhaust emits white smoke from exhaust on starting up which dissipates after 50 - 60 seconds. It's not dependant on the weather however I've noticed it's when the car has been stood after a couple of hours, obviously more noticeable on start up first thing. It doesn't happen when driving either. I've checked the coolant & oil levels and there's no leak or its not dropping rapidly. The smoke is white / greyish not thick and like I said quickly dissipates, there is a smell which I think smells like deisel. On start up it doesn't misfire and no revving on idle, it is a bit sluggish first thing In the morning as I've read that's normal for a deisel as it needs to warm up, turbo Isnt making any noises either. Spoken to a few mechanics & they say its condensation, have seen water dropping which stops and doesnt leave puddles. Can't put my finger on it, seen other posts re: other deisel cars which have experienced this but whilst there's a common trend there's no common solution it appears.

Any advice welcome thanks.? Read more

Just thought i'd share an update on this, I've had some work done changing on injector and replacing a seal from one of the leak off pipes. 5 months later the smoke still appears but what I've noticed now is that the car misfires when accelerating hard in 2ng gear only, that misfire has been there since I bought the thing I've just noticed more recently for some reason.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

My speeding offence took place on the 9th July 2019. I did not get the letter until the 26th September.
Is it still valid?

I thought that this specifically not a warranty. It is entirely eat VAG's discretion and has no legal standing. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, can somebody please explain why VAG are fixing some vehicles under the terms of this trust building measure, but VAG say they only fix things damaged by the NOx reduction measures. It doesn't make sense. Read more

I've had two of the previous model of this compressor and both failed - the first after about six months and its replacement 3 years later. I wouldn't recommend them. Read more

I bought one of these because of all the positive reviews: I've used it 3 times and it has failed. Also, when it was working it never reached the set pressure, I had to set it slightly above what I needed. Would not recommend

EDIT: I take back, just discovered that the fuse has blown. It's got a fuse who knew?...

Hi guys its time to change my car, I commute 80 miles a day, I need a very economical car, i want a petrol car after all the diesel opinions. size wise i dont mind as it would be just me. Ideally budget would be 4k possibly 5k. I was considering a suzuki celerio with the excellent economy but the power on motorway is offputting.

any advice would be useful i would need about 50mpg, for the budget other options maybe polo, fabia. dacia sandero... Read more

Speaking as someone who's family car for 3 years was a daihatsu sirion 1.0 (68bhp), I'd like to address a point often brought up in response to posts like this. The perceived lack of performance, particularly at motorway speeds. I took our daihatsu from N E Scotland to visit relatives in Wigan, then on to Coventry. There was only one point in the journey where the power wasn't enough to maintain the speed I wanted to go at, and that was coming North over the Beattock summit, which is very steep (also, I had been doing 80mph). So I'd have no qualms about the celerio, or C1/108/aygo in 1.0 forms as they all have the same 68bhp and don't weigh very much. The up/mii/citigo are a slightly different kettle of fish as the basic version has less power (60bhp) and more weight to carry. So I'd want a test drive on main roads before deciding.

If you do decide you need more power, the C1 and 108 are available with an 81bhp 1.2, and the higher spec versions of the up/mii/citigo are available with a 75bhp version of the 1.0 engine.

I was watching a programme on A&E. A driver had started his van remotely from outside of his Van. Unfortuneately for him he had left the van in gear and it jumped onto him breaking his thigh. What is remote start,is it legal and why would you possibly need it. It could possibly injure an innocent pedestrian, no mention of this in the programme hence the question. Read more

Clearly ideal for those who have forgotten how to turn a key in a lock.

It is nicer to get into a warm car on a cold day although it generally involves local pollution - not a problem if you are eating breakfast at the time but unpleasant for kiddies walking (some still do) to school etc....
