Does anyone know when the radiator should be flushed and the coolant changed on the 2011 Ford Ka please? I can't find it anywhere. Also, the coolant that is in is Arteco Haveline XLC, could I use an equivalent coolant for topping up? Thanks. Read more
I thought it might be interesting, in replying to each other's posts, if we had an idea of what part of the country people are talking about. Not seeking to pry or to infringe any data protection rules - maybe just which county you live in (or indeed country - I think we have some members in France).
And of course don't answer this at all if you'd prefer not to.... Read more

If the battery still has its original plastic cover fitted, you will not be able to access the negative lead to jump start or charge it.Use a suitable earth point on the engine.Slow charger will be no problem on this.
Presumably Austrians and others don't share the Brits' need to show off how new their car is, or at least newer than their neighbours'. The system as described by Mike makes a lot of sense, but I suspect it wouldn't go down well over here.
Probably preaching to the converted here, but I just wondered what people thought of some of the warning signals that modern cars tend to feature. Useful, or an aid to complacency?
I took the B Max on a longer drive this week: a round trip of 400-odd miles to Scarborough from North Wales via Hull and back. The car has enough power to spare for most situations, though the skin on the rice pudding remains intact. Only one glitch on the way, and that was when a cheery little jingle sounded in the car, and an orange warning sign popped up on the display along with a message about low tyre pressures. I pulled off the M62 at a junction, stopped the car when it was safe to do so, checked tyre pressures (bearing in mind we'd be travelling for a couple of hours by then and pressure would be slightly raised) but all was well. With further investigation I worked out how to reset the deflation sensor to accept the current pressures. So, apparently a false alarm. ... Read more
We used to have a W reg Mini; orange in colour when we bought it one rainy evening, orange and rust red in colour once the sun came up. One day, without realising it, I ran over an enormous nail which became lodged in the tyre.
The tyre deflated over several days, something which didn't become apparent until it was almost totally flat, because as anyone who has owned a Mini will know, the great fun of driving the car is not only being able to take bends without slowing down, but that every bump in the road feels like a kick up the backside with a hobnail boot. The nail had actually worked its way through the tread of the tyre and out of the sidewall by the time I found it.
Hello. The radio on my 64 reg fiesta has just stoppes working. The Ford radio picture is there when you press the on button but absolutely nothing else. None of the buttons do anything when pressed. Do these cars still have a code? Also is it covered on the warranty? Many thanks Read more

RE: 'Banged Up' the dodgy Punto. I can't understand someone buying a car for £500 and expecting it to be any good.
No test drive or inspection ?? What on earth.....
This price level is one step away from the scrapper, so any car at this price level needs to be treated as such (perhaps the car should be in the scapper but the vendor is keen to get more of your cash)
Also, the batting starts at £300 for such a car with 9+ months MoT in my book, so £500 is already too much.
Move on but next time go with your son to spend at least an hour looking over/around the car and asking for paperwork, receipts etc. and make sure the car hasn't had more owners than you've had hot dinners, walk away if it has.
LOL, LOL, LOL. I want someone to explain why my new car delivery date has been pushed back several times and who is going to re imburse me for the unused 3 months road tax despite the fact I'll be using my existing car and will only lose 1 month's tax (not the 3 I mentioned) when I come to cash in the remaining unused months! Oh and I turned down delivery of the same car because it was a different colour. Seriously!? Read more
Where can I get these delicious pies and how long is the waiting time now.
Is there an alternative that has comparable deliciousness you would recommend. Needs to feed two people.
With the controls set so low you can't adjust them while driving, you have to look down so far that you can't see the road, this has made me drift towards the white line when trying to adjust them myself,I don't even try now I get my passenger to adjust them. I have written to merc, to tell them about this poor design, but had no reply, has anyone else experienced this difficulty?. Read more
Unfortunately, I've met drivers who will set the climate to minimum temperature because they think that will cool the car quicker. Perhaps it may, but in my experience climate will cool quickly and then slowly adjust itself to the desired setting, making for a more comfortable environment.
These are the same type of folk who will turn up the thermostatic radiator valves on central heating because they feel cold and then turn them down again when they feel too hot!...
Hello. We found a new car on saturday, got accepted for the finance monday and looked at collecting it saturday. We are purchasing from a main dealer so i thought no issues as my wife works for the dealer. Just been informed we may not be able to collect the car saturday as it still has a finance marker against it on hpi and our finance wont pay the dealer until the marker is removed. The finace was settled on 7th august but we have been told it wont clear off the register for 10 days so we now cant get it till 17th. Im not convinced this is right anyone can put me right? .... - after all it takes 6 working days for a cheque to 100% clear!!
Of course it doesn't, that's just an age-old excuse for the banks to hold on to your cash a bit longer. Electronic transfers are instantaneous. In fact I recall one I made many years ago which (if the printed timings were to be believed) arrived before it was sent.

I've found thick, green sludge in the cooling system of old cars. Admittedly they are ones with thermo-syphon cooling and hence no water pump to agitate the coolant.
Initial research seems to suggest it's caused by the corrosion inhibitors settling out of old anti-freeze....
