Out in Thailand and I am astonished at the driving habits here. The Traffic in Bangkok makes London look positively free flowing. Thai drivers see a space and they are into it, vehicles just cut in from junctions, motor bikes weave in and out, go the wrong way down dual carriageways often with Mum, Dad and the little one aboard, many have no helmet, However horns are seldom heard and I didn't,see one car or van with body damage or see one incident of even minor road rage. Toyota rule car sales here too. Read more

We were ferried around by taxi and the drivers stayed on the normal roads. I don't know about the toll roads but we had several grid lock times. Motorbikes have 73% of accidents according to reports.

HI,

I purchased a 2011 petrol VW Eos for £8,300, with 49,000 miles from an independent used car dealer, and exported it from England. ... Read more

Nah.

Based on what is being said this could develop some technical aspects but what I see is a plain old consumer dispute between the buyer/seller. Given the time element and questions over shoddy repairs VW won't entertain it. Why should they be liable for and pay for the way in which someone else has repaired the paintwork to a poor standard. If the OP wanted to go after them he would have to provide something that casts doubt on the results of their inspection. Easy? Hard?......what do you think?...

I'm sure there are many more of us would love to drive a hybrid, but their price tags are generally so much more than 'conventional' engines, (even second hand) so they just aren't an option for people of lower incomes. Surely, after all these years the hybrid has now been around and with pressures from governments about high pollution, it's time their prices came down a bit. We don't all get a company car allowance... Read more

Hi

It's a little way off yet but thought I'd pose the question.

I normally take our cars to a back street garage as I've used them for many years after they were recommended. They've always helped us out at short notice and their prices are very reasonable.

I'm wondering whether to take my 3 year old chain driven civic to them or the Honda dealer when it comes around to servicing. I'm sure our trusty garage know which grade of oil to use, but after reading on here about some places not being to particular it makes me wonder... I guess I could request the garage use a specific oil and genuine Honda parts... not sure if this would cause offence though.

Advantages of taking the car to the dealership could be that the car may be easier to sell with full dealer hitory rather than an unknown garage. To be honest I'll mostI likely to keep the car for a long time (10 years plus)if it gives me no issues.

My other issue is trust. I feel I've built a relationship with the backstreet garage and that's worth a bit to me. If I took it to Honda I'd be wondering if I was being taken for a ride if they started finding faults.

Although I mention the civic I guess this is a general question in regards to the subject as I'm also considering my wife's car and what we'd do with future cars too.

For that very reason I'd have a courtesy car every time rather than collect and return. They'll get the job done in a day if someone else has booked the car for the next day - even more so if it's the service manager's transport home that night.

New car sales have been in decline since April, exactly when the Government imposed new VED charges making popular cars like these more expensive to buy new; coincidence much?

Brexit may be a factor, but it's far from the biggest one and the attitude that Brexit is to blame for seemingly everything wrong in the UK is getting very, very old indeed. Read more

Why is leather trim seen as being so top end? Don't get me wrong I do like leather in some situations just not in a car.

I have just changed the oil in our Focus (some regulars might do a doubletake here;-)

The replacement filter (Halfords, £4) is half the size of the old one. Have all previous filters been unnecessarily large and expensive? Have the boffins finally realised that modern engines produce far fewer particles than the old cast iron lumps? Read more

Try doing it to the industry standard tests at 40*C and 100*C and then post your results. I think you'll find the old oil is like water at 100*C compared to the new oil.

My reference book says SAE viscosity tests are run at 0 F, 150 F and 210 F....
