This car, under two years old is not fitted with reversing sensors.

Google comes up with several suppliers with fitters nationwide, (franchised presumably), such as AVR and AVS.... Read more

I've recently had the factory VW OPS system fitted to my 2 year old Golf SV by this guy: poollretrofits.com/ . All the testimonials on his website are true; he did a fantastic job that's indistinguishable from the factory fitted system. His workshop was clean and tidy and he took great care while doing the job fitting protective covers wherever he worked on the car. I’d certainly go back to him again. He also offers the Cobra system that is the same as the aftermarket system fitted by VAG dealers. If you want any further info just ask. HTH

Just had this car serviced by a local independent. They have sercviced all my cars to a high standard for over 10 years now. Wouldn't dream of goinfg anywhere else. Unfortunately, they can't turn the service light off.

They have two diagnostics systems, have just spent £1000 on software updates and neither of them can turn off the service light. So far I have been unable to find anyone outside of the main dealer network who can do this.... Read more

Learn something new on here every day. I wasn't aware you couldn't turn off the service light on these without handing the dealer my hard earned. Might explain the crippling depreciation on these. Dealers will walk away or bid accordingly at auction if there are added costs and complications like this. Very shortsighted Suzuki.

Hi all

Any advice very much appreciated! It's time to get rid of my old Jeep, I no longer have the need for an off roader and it's too big and too costly in repairs! I am really struggling to come up with a car that fits my requirements ... I have two children so need a family car, that can also fit a German Shepherd in the boot (on occasion, not daily or long distances). However I don't want anything too big to park and I really want something reliable as I've have spent a small fortune on my jeep! Budget will be up to £8000.... Read more

Thank you, the focus estate does look like a good cheaper option!

Hi, have a mk5 golf and noticed that in neutral the shifter is stiff/sticky as if there is not enough 'spring' when changing gears i.e 4th to fifth. The clutch feels fine in the car and it does select gears fine it just takes more guidance than previously, any ideas? Read more

probably needs a gear selector overhaul.

Yes - they are at it again - striking for more money. So if you are coming to France, probably not a good idea to arrive with a near empty tank.

You might be ok for a fill up, you might not, it depends where you go and what the local situation is - it's a bit hit and miss at the moment.... Read more

Moving on from the political posturing ... back to the alert that Brits coming to France should be aware of the fuel situation - the number of fuel stations running empty is increasing, and spreading more generally across France:

Au contraire un peu - the dispute is supposed to be over - but the distribution lag remains....

Hello,
Just had the cambelt changed on my Fiat Ducato 2.3 MultiJet (model year 2010). I now have a slight clunk noise when releasing the clutch. This happens when pressing down on the clutch pedal and releasing, then a clunk noise when the pedal is nearly fully raised (but not everytime). The engine had to be slightly raised/dropped to get the cambelt protective cover out of the engine bay. Could something have happened here? Any ideas what I can check? Anyone know this vehicle?
Thank you. Read more

Last year at Xmas time I went to start the car which had been in our garage little used for several weeks - completely dead! Called out the Toyota break down home assist. The technician was clearly not familiar with this model, but eventually found the positive terminal and managed to "jump start" the car. I left it running for 10 mins. or so and drove off only to have the auto stop/start cut the engine even tho' there was not enough power to re-start ! leaving me in a dangerous situation stalled at a near by X-roads! To cut a long story short I managed to get another jump start and managed to drive for 10/15 miles without having to stop again before returning safely home. Whereupon I enquired and was told the car did not have an alternator! and that I would need to trickle charge the parallel battery (as opposed to the high voltage drive assist hybrid bat.) it was 26 hrs. before (my) Halfords charger's light turned from yellow to green! The car was passed to our Son-in-law who has had no further issues (he uses it on a daily basis). Surely the auto-stop function should not have "kicked" in? Our Skoda Rapid Spaceback 1.4 TSI SE Greentech has no such problems indeed the auto stop/start really needs a good "run" to function! Caveat emptor! ADRIAN DEWEY Read more

Not too bad for an AGM Battery. There are cheaper flooded batteries that will fit, not sure if its reccomend though.

I am surprised to hear that VW does not use clear coats on flat colours - I thought it was pretty universal with the water borne paints now used. Happy to stand corrected

Not sure how universa it is, it seems to be a strange mix. Wife has had a couple of fiat Pandas the plain red had clearcoad the white did not. Its a bit strange. With VW when you buy a touch up you get the colour only for plain colours but colour and clearcoat for metalics....

Interesting - I was curious so looked at the Ateca configurator on the SEAT website. A space-saver is listed as a reasonably-priced option, instead of the useless repair kit - so where are you meant to put it, I wonder, if the under-floor compartnemt is only an inch deep?

Same place you'd put the full size wheel if you every needed to use the space saver - in the boot above the floor.
