Hi, just wondering if anybody knew what size timing plns for setting timing up. Looks like their only pins in the haynes manual. Probably 7 or 8 or 9mm. Seems that I would only use the the proper tools once and they are £20 . Thanks for any info. Sparky100. Read more

Try your local dealer-one of our locals (not Nissan) used to loan tools against a deposit.

Here in sunny Basingstoke we have numerous 'traffic calming' items. We have the giveway to oncoming vehicles, speed humps and cushions galore, road pinch points, projections narrowing roads from one side on country roads which often get head to head situations causing problems etc etc. One road near me has been had the junction narrowed so only one vehicle can get in or out at once, no proiority indicated and log jams are regular. Speed cushions don't slow taxis, lorries, buses or motorbikes or white van man. Is my town the worst? the council both local and county couldn't care less what the residents think . On a narrow country road near here the powers that be have intalled a small give way to oncoming traffic feature. It is completely useless thing in the middle of nowhere and sooner or later some one will not see the few bricks sticking out and have a smash.

I've just bought an 06 passat 6 speed 2.0 tdi (140) and have receipts from previous owner of new gearbox and clutch/DMF 3 months ago. Problem is since I've had the car, there is slight grinding when changing to fifth gear. All other gears are fine. It drives lovely in every gear even fifth after the grind. This should not be happening when both gearbox and clutch have been replaced. Any idea what it could be guys?
I bought it from a dealer and he's looking into it, but I wanted to know what it's likely to be Read more

I can remember when it wasn't on first or reverse and most gearboxes were only three speed.

Update.

It was the sat nav box in the boot. Water dropping onto it due to my drive being uphill and I reverse in, blocked drains meant water buildup and as I turned right at normal speed water would slosh around and up on the unit. Problem cured.

I have had bad experiences with Kwik-Fit. However, because it is brakes, I suggest you get a second opinion from a trustworthy garage ( there are many). Please let us know the outcome.

Two cheap options as I see it.

Let MOT lapse and when you are ready to use it again insure the car and take for a pre booked MOT which is perfectly legal. Then re-tax car....

"Aluminum is a very flexible and heat resistant metal."

Actually, no. Pure aluminium is highly reactive. Its strength reduces above 100°C. It conducts heat much better than iron. As an alternative to steel it is not very flexible or strong....

It would be interesting to know the 'breakdown' of the page views scores, especially the number of views of the 'Good & Bad' sections of the reviews. I'm personally unconvinced that page view = popular and good car, given the amount of negative reviews and problems associated with VAG diesel cars and the Golf in particular. Read more

Does anyone who buys anything from either the vag or jlr manufacturers read anything about the major problems they have with powertrain (vag) or basic design engineering (jlr) or do they not really care as most are bought on pcp these days? Why are the residual values so good on vehicles that are almost guaranteed to cost considerable amounts once out of warranty?
