Perhaps certain manufacturers were upset at having the information publicly available, and the right to know for the public is generally less supported than manufacturers "Right to Hide" ! Read more

The explanation does not hold water - the DVSA holds the information as a database and can extract such information by running a set of queries.

The most likely explanation is that the government is backtracking on the Open Data initiative to increase the commercial value of a privatised DVSA - the database information would then be a commodity to be sold to provide a revenue stream....

Just back from Ibiza and another episode with car hire which makes me want to forget the idea unless going to The Canaries where Autoreisen are based. Absolutely nothing but praise for them and no wonder they get a 90% rating on Which.

This time full marks for Zest Car Brokers again no 1 in Which but when we arrived the hire company said the car had no damage. Wrong it had and this was noted including an attempted break in on the drivers door.

But what a pathetic engine the three cylinder 60 brake is trying to power a heavy car like the Polo or Fabia. Hill starts are a nightmare and should be avoided if possible.

Definitely a car to be avoided unless you live in the flatlands of Lincolnshire or East Anglia Read more

It currently costs about 20euros a day to buy the full insurance that covers all eventualities otherwise you have to leave a deposit of 1000euros, but brokers like Zest cover this if you buy their insurance in advance at 2.50 pounds a day then claim when you return to the uk.

They also rate each car hire firm depot by depot from customer feedback, which is useful as I have found a wide difference in service from the same hirers in different locations.

Hello. Can someone please advise me what it could potentially mean if the ECU light doesn't come on at all? I am used to the light coming on for a few seconds and then going off when starting the vehicle. However, with no obvious cause, the light doesn't come on at all.

The car is a Mk3 MR2.

Hi all, still trying to get to the bottom of this one, ...how can an a4 that is euro4 and 152 k/gm with tdv in its description have a DPF?

When the tdi pd130 is 154k/gm. I have read that it is the 115pd slightly tweaked round about the 06-57reg.... Read more

No insult Joseph but I'm gonna task myself with finding one and taking a physical look. Too much conflicting information about, you'd expect a main dealer to know their stuff but heard too many who don't to put 100% faith in them. If I do I'll get back on with the results.

Good old Willy Walsh looking after the shareholders instead of his customers by outsourcing IT to India. I wonder if he'll be in line for a bonus this year?

Thankfully for me as a northerner, BA is "off grid". Why do they expect everyone to travel to LHR / LGW before getting to their final destination? Are they in cahoots with the London hotel industry, as if you do insist on using BA (say from Manchester), the first shuttle arrives in London too late to catch the early flights to Europe.... Happy Blue!

Flying from Manchester (it is my home airport, within a 30 minute drive and also via tram and train), I never fly BA unless the times and the flights are 100% perfect for me. I usually fly either direct (if possible from Manchester) or via a European hub, which in the case of many of my flight, are so efficient it only adds about 90/120 minutes to the overall trip and is usually a lot cheaper. Flying via Heathrow (of course you cannot fly to gatwick anymore from MAN), the treatment of pasengers who are not Business or First Class is disgusting (stand there, not here thats for Business Class, sorry no food).

Last time I flew BA, I was stuck by a window next a huge bloke who smelled, the legroom was crippling (I am only 5'7") and the flight was late - it was only heathrow to Manchester as well. Never again - not after last weeks fiasco.

Looking at a 3 year Personal Contract Hire deal and there is an option to add a maintenance package at £55pm which is around £1985 over term of the deal, is this worth it?

Previously had a 2 year deal with no maintenance and had no issues with the vehicle so only servicing costs.

Should I take it or not? Any views welcom. ... Read more

It would have to be substantially cheaper to be worthwhile. Over three years on average mileage you'll have one minor and one major service plus maybe a couple of tyres which would cost a fraction of the cost of this. The car would go back before the third service is due unless you're doing a heavy mileage.

I hope you shopped around for a deal on the car. If this is an example of what the firm are offering its hugely overpriced!

When the interior gets baking while the car is parked in the sun, the engine won't start but does turn over. As it's diesel it seems like the fuel shut off valve is not opening. The remedy is to open all the windows and a door to allow ventilation and the interior to cool down a bit. Then after a few minutes the engine will start.

All the relays are far as I know are under bonnet so I can't attribute the cause to an over heated relay.... Read more
