I hate my car

Today my car failed it's mot on a leaking brake pipe not the rubber 1 the copper 1 under the car, This pipe runs over the fuel tank and drops down to above the fuel filter my first question is has anyone changed 1 of these before and if so how was it done as with the fuel tank in place you can't get a spanner in the gap :@

My second question is dose the join need to be there or can I join it in a easier to access point cut bk the line and replace it would that pass the mot and dose anyone no how the pipe is held in place under the fuel tank or if at all? ... Read more

I think you will need to ask yourself ,have you worked on hydraulic braking systems before, and do you have the correct tools to make up and flare new pipework??I would consider making up a new section of pipe and routing it around the fuel tank and securing it adequately to the body work.Dropping the fuel tank for access could open up a complete new can of worms. The price quoted does seem a little high.

In light of recent comments in the media etc re. diesels being polluting (I've read things about scrappage allowance for diesels) what is the future for older diesel cars? ie the year 2000 to 2010 and the likes of the BMW 530D, Merc 320 CDI and Volvo D5. Will it be that in buying one of these within a few yrs they will be rendered scrap value?! Will the road tax be increased for these type of vehicles so its punitive or will these cars being older be left alone?

From memory these have a throttle cable. I would check that this is free to move both to open and close. We have seen these cables stick usually because they have been kinked when other work is done under the bonnet and they are moved out of the way. The cable basically sticks and then jumps as the retrun spring on the throttle body overcomes the resistance causing the lurch effect. Check the linear movement of the cable at the throttle body on open and clsoed throttle. If it is the case a new throttle cable is the solution.

Hi would either of these cars be a good buy and reasonalbly reliable with them basically being a toyota?

I like the way diesels drive but I dont necccersarily need one as my daily commute is only around 15-20 miles.

I do go on the motorway occasionally but if I were to get a diesel i would obviously make sure I do more often.

I honestly can't say I ever find the electrical systems of PSA stuff any worse and frankly often better than others.

For example, the Volvo S40/V50, which isn't an overall bad car in particular, I've seen loads of crashing CAN bus systems, non operaiton doors, windows, power steering and all sorts of malaky due to electrical errors. The Ford Focus (on the same platform) also can suffer mainly due to poor positioning of some key components....

Mini-roundabouts only work because someone is always GREEDY!.I regularly create havoc locally because at a "T"" junction near me,I(legally) use it to do a "U" turn and so have priority on all the roads. There is also another "T" near me where the roundabout has been painted so far up the side road entering, that traffic going straight across the "T" finds it easier to use the wrong side of the roundabout.I questioned the police over this and was told that as long as you do it safely they are not interested.

Hi,

I have question regarding driving test for hgv, I almost sure that answer is yes, but Can we use right lane on roundabout to go straight if there is queue of traffic like on this picture:... Read more

Damian without intending to cause offence how much driving experience do you have? If not that much it may be worth clocking up some mileage doing van deliveries - earn as you gain experience.

Hi, I unfortunately failed my test at last BUSY roundabout 300 meters from test centre due to observation, my instructor told me that if roundabout is busy I must look for blocker on the right and I still don't know if blocker must be in position A or B? http://imgur.com/a/Ca1YX . Position B is ok for car but truck has so little acceleration, but problem is when he is A position I never know if he leaving roundabout but probably I have enough time if I press to the floor? On my test that black car (1) didn't leave roundabout so I had to heavily break. Where do you look for blockers, guys?

Thank you in advance Read more

With lorries in particular you can often tell by where the front wheels are pointing whether they're coming right round the roundabout or leaving at the same exit as you're trying to pull out from. Not so easy to tell with cars, which can change direction more quickly . . . and sometimes do!

It's a good job Edd's time in fixing up the cars was free. An episode I saw the other week featured a TVR Cerbera, bought for £8,000. It needed a complete new chassis and suspension, plus other sundries, making a total parts cost of £5,500.

That episode worried me. Where would you find a second hand TVR chassis? I suspect it came from a crash damaged car. Evidenced perhaps by the fact it had to be 'sprung' into place on the body. I wonder how 'straight' the subsequent car was?...

I am going to test drive two. One is Sept 2010 with 61,000 miles on clock 1800 engine. Is this the Mark 2 ? The other 2012 with 31,000 miles on clock 1600 engine. Both petrol with full service history and documentation. Price difference about £2,000.

I be grateful for views on which seems better buy and potential problems/costs. Appreciate variables etc but value opinions.... Read more

I'd rather pay a bit extra (aim for £5-£5.2k) for this lower mileage higher spec car as long as it has a full history though. Auto Trader: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/20170322356...1

Actually Scott22, I'd be a little wary, that's an average of 3500 miles per year. Short journeys, never getting oil warmed up, not properly run in?.

If it's really nice, try and do a bit of your own detective work. Contact the the previous owner (look at the V5 or service invoices) and find out what sort of journeys it's been subjected to....
