March 2017
This is on behalf of a friend of mine who is looking to buy a Yeti DSG as he really likes the practical nature of the car. I have told him that the DSG box attracts some negativity as, apparently, there are many issues with it.
From what I can gather there are a number if variants and I am not sure which one would be fitted to the car he is looking at (65 plate 2.1 TDi 150 BHP). Does anyone know which and, if so, whether it's best avoided? Are they really that problematic? I am just forewarning him as this car would have around 18 mnths warranty left on it though I suppose he could choose to extend it?... Read more
Any general thoughts on the reliability of this engine (2013 version). Any specific issues that make it an unwise choice?

. but I've had mine serviced at 10,000 mile intervals (even though Toyota service department asked me why!)
Wise decision.
I had my front anti roll bar drop links replaced recently. The following day I noticed when braking the steering vibrated but only between 35 & 30 mph. The car was MOTed on Saturday and the brakes were fine. Any ideas what could be the issue? Read more
Possibly disks which are now out of alignment. I had brake wobble at 60-65 when slowing on sliproads. New disks sorted it. Cheap enough on a Mondeo.
Some idiot has put rubbish on about 80 threads in this section. I haven't the time or the inclination to go through them all and delete them, as they'd have to be done individually.
Please just ignore them. Read more

The official French application form assumes my car is registered in France Read more
I was emailed an invoice and a copy of the sticker etc. Can this be used in your window until I get the full size one. I assume any ANPR cameras will not be an issue as the van has been registered.
I get the impression from my travels Vauxhall have set its dealer network the most ambitious sales targets this month, there seems to be good deals on most of the range.

Any way to find out which manufacturers compelted the most registrations on the last day of March?
Im assuming it was Vauxhall again by the number of 17 plates on autotrader?...
An interesting question today in Ask HJ about insuring two cars:
www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/76687/what-s-the...s-
Our car insurance is due for renewal soon, and we are a three car family- Dacia Logan, Mx5, and my wife's Yaris Hybrid. We have used Aviva multi-car for 2 years, mainly because it was the cheapest option for my wife as these have been her first two years driving.
The MX5 was added recently for £120, more out of convenience than anything else, and because I didn't have any no claims for it. The Yaris is currently £650, and the Logan £350. I haven't had the renewal quote yet, so wanted to ask what were your experiences of multi-car policies for 3 cars?
Would a classic policy be better for the Mazda with a specialist provider (like all the ads I see in Practical Classics!)?
Do you think 3 separate policies would work out cheaper using a comparison site, and has that been your experience? I will shop around this year (I didn't last year as my wife looked elsewhere and it was cheaper for her to stick with Aviva, so we did!) but thought I'd ask all you lot first!

First year I tried multi-car insurance I got a 53 plate Mondeo TDCi, Mini Cooper (56 plate), a 53 plate MX5 Sport and 20-year old daughter's 52 plate Clio 1.2 all insured for £997 (2012 it was). Each was specified who was the main, secondary or occasional user or even non-user.
While the insurer paid out £2k for a claim on the MX5 after freak storm damage, the next year (2013) they only wanted £1700, so were told to stick it. (cant fault the way the claim was handled). ...
Well, mystery solved as the car was on long life servicing confirmed by Skoda. It can be serviced now and converted to fixed interval servicing of 10k/1 year so no real dramas.
I am very tempted to buy it myself as my mate is dithering about the colour (well, his Missus is) :-). Very practical vehicle and good value.
